24.01.2022 For all involved in educating our young people. You might like to join this FREE online Mindful Education Event, beginning on October 16th.

24.01.2022 Be part of something massive..... Think of meditation as any way in which we engage in (1) systematically regulating our attention and energy (2) thereby influencing and possibly transforming the quality of our experience ... (3) in the service of realizing the full range of our humanity and of (4) our relationships to others and the world. Jon Kabat-Zin Hello everyone, Thanks in advance for hearing my tender hearted plea. (Nique Murch here - an MBSR teacher in Melbourne.) There is a global call to action on Sept 20 that will see school children, young people, their friends and relations striking for climate action. They are asking for us to stand in solidarity, by taking time off work, standing side by side on behalf of the planets future. Ill be there. As a meditator, this is a call that I cannot ignore. Why? This is way beyond the particulars of politics, beyond my comfort zone on the cushion. It is a call to stand for what I value most: this mystery of being alive and interdependent in the more than human world. If I dont stand up now, then what was all this mindfulness practice for? If I cant take intentional action in all its awkwardness and imperfection not because of some outcome but for its own sake.then when will be a better time? All our practice brings home the preciousness of presence in the moment, so I must take bumbling steps to show my belonging to the planet my longing for others also to see this astonishing life through, with justice and integrity. If I dont get out on the street with millions of others around the world, and on behalf of all species, water, air and earth, I will look back with muted horror at my own cowardice at this crucial time in history. This is a poignant invitation for symbolic and real action where we can draw strength from each other, countering discourses of fear and economics. As a human I have the right and need to exercise my moral imagination, by putting on my shoes, humbly painting a banner (possibly missspelt), and linking arms with others. So please join in on 20 September three days out from the UNs Emergency Climate Summit. See you there! http://www.ecoshout.org.au//global-strike-for-climate-aust Nique and the Openground team

21.01.2022 Todays Free Online Talk begins at 7.30pm AEST. Join Libba Granger to explore how people often turn to mindfulness practice to help them manage themselves in some way, whether it be a particular physical condition theyre grappling with, or mental and emotional states and/or simply to find more ease and peace in their lives. And yet along the way, up come the very states and conditions were struggling with, which we somehow want to hop over or get rid of, so we can find more ease and peace. In this session well explore how to use this precise moment of practice as an intentional moment of awareness and choice whether we choose to get to know this state more intimately and how to be with it with less reactivity, or how to find more ground and stability in this moment. 18.01.2022 Discounted MBSR for Mental Health Week. An invitation from Timothea Goddard - Director of Openground Mindfulness Training. Mental health and how to generate it - is not just a personal problem as it is often characterised, but is deeply effected by cultural, social and economic forces. Anxiety and depression thrive in workplaces and communities where there is high stress, lack of personal power, a culture of never-ending competition, isolation and where ones contributio...n is reduced to a transaction. So how can mindfulness help in this broader context where we can feel disempowered and alone? How can we begin to feel a sense of empowerment to begin to occupy ourselves a little more? And to take charge in all the small and big ways that are needed? Send me an email at [email protected] so we can arrange a time to talk about your situation and what might help. I love this short piece by Jon Kabat-Zinn called Listening is an act of love. Have a watch and listen to get a sense of what the MSBR course is about and how it can help. I would be delighted to speak to you on the phone about your situation and what might help, including a discount if needed. With care Timothea Goddard https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jfnf708ukZI #mentalhealth #worldmentalhealthday #mentalhealthweek #mbsr #mindfulness

03.01.2022 As you step into the busyness of the work week, remember to take time to be with the precious moments of your day, even the challenging ones. In doing so you may uncover something magical.

03.01.2022 We have just had the 2020 National Reconciliation Week in Australia which had the theme of In this together. And over the last two weeks the US has erupted with protests against the systematic oppression, and ongoing police brutality and murder of black people. We are witnessing the results of centuries of unresolved systemic racial violence. Protests have been taken up all over the world, including here, and it has been inspiring to see the care and attention with which in...dividuals on the whole have participated in ways that stay accountable to our responsibilities within a global pandemic. Lets pay attention and not go into autopilot. I invite you to sit with the uncomfortable feelings of anger, grief, powerlessness, guilt. If we do not bear them, we will surely transmit them. And lest we become hopeless, or cynical about the possibilities for transformation, lets reflect and act, together, here, now. As part of our practice, I believe we need to inquire into structures of oppression and how to attend to them inside and out, to lead to more freedom for all. https://www.openground.com.au/mindfulne/black-lives-matter/

03.01.2022 Openground proudly presents the online premiere of the award winning documentary My Year of Living Mindfully, streaming free from Wednesday 27 May till Wednesday 3 June. Followed by an exclusive Q&A with Shannon Harvey (Journalist and Director of MYOLM), Timothea Goddard (Director of Openground) and Pamela Lovell (Associate of Openground and Moderator of Q&A). Last year, Shannon and Jules Harvey asked Timothea Goddard to participate in a film, teaching an MBSR course which... was filmed over the eight weeks. The finished film - My Year of Living Mindfully - shows Shannon engaging in a year-long experiment in mindfulness meditation. She started out - as many people do - using some mindfulness apps, and then embarked on the MBSR course with Openground, followed by a nine day retreat. This movie explores the science, the applications more broadly, and her experience of transformation beautifully. https://www.myyearoflivingmindfully.com/opengroundpremiere See more
