23.01.2022 Working from home tip #1 A simple starting point to taking care of your vision while working from home, is to make sure you are not facing bright windows and placing your computer screen at an appropriate distance from your eyes. This can make a big difference to how you feel and perform, as well as helping protect you from eye strain and visual fatigue.... Put some distance between you and your screen. Be sure to sit at least an arms length from the computer screen and try not to hold your tablet or smartphone too close to your face. If you wear glasses, it's a good idea to speak with your optometrist about options such as computer specific prescriptions. Having your monitor at the correct height is critical for multifocal (progressive) lens users and if you feel you are tilting your head back to read the screen clearly you may need to adjust your set up or consider glasses made specifically for computer use.

23.01.2022 Just got these beautiful frames in from Ugly Fish! These are so lightweight and comfortable to wear.

21.01.2022 Digital media are now a major part of most of our lives, and possibly for no group more so than teenagers. While teens love their gadgets, the overuse of digital devices can be harmful to the eyes as devices emit blue light, which can damage the eyes over time and lead to Computer Vision Syndrome. This is the name for a group of symptoms caused by digital devices such as eyestrain, tired eyes, dry eye, irritation, red eyes, blurred vision, double... vision and headaches. According to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, prolonged exposure to blue light can also damage the retina and could lead to macular degeneration and damage to central vision. To reduce risks, screen time should be balanced with getting outside for some ‘green time’ and giving the eyes regular breaks by looking away from the screen into the distance every 20 minutes for at least 20 seconds, as well as taking a 5 minute break every hour. #teenvision #teenagers #eyehealth #visionhealth #careforyourvision #screentime #bluelight #digitaldevices #optometry #sunshinecoastoptometrist #sippydowns See more

20.01.2022 The end of the year is approaching fast! Come and see us to use up your health fund optical benefits before they expire on December 31st. We have 'no gap' package deals available.

19.01.2022 Working from home tip #3 Give your eyes regular breaks from the screen! Our eyes weren't designed to stare at a screen, so it's important to take regular breaks. Looking away from the screen or book, helps the muscles in your eyes relax and will reduce strain which can lead to headaches and blurred vision. Use the 20/20/20 rule! every 20 mins, shift your eyes to look at an object at least 20 feet away, for at least 20 seconds. ... An even better option if you can, is head outdoors! Move your body and get some fresh air. Just remember to wear UV protective sunglasses, even in the colder months. #workfromhome #wfh #sunshinecoastoptometrist

18.01.2022 Appearance can be everything to teenagers, who may be reluctant to wear glases if they feel it might impact their image negatively. 17.01.2022 Children don't always communicate if they are having trouble seeing, especially if that's how it's always been for them. Call us or go to our website to book a comprehensive eye test for your child. We have after school and Saturday appointments available.

15.01.2022 Glaucoma usually gives no warning until it is advanced, but the damage it causes to vision is ongoing and could become irreversible. Fortunately, for many patients treatment can halt the damage. That means the earlier the diagnosis, the more vision there is to save and the less likely the person is to become blind. World Glaucoma Week aims at alerting members of the broader community to the need for regular eye checks, which allow earlier detection and, hence, saved sight!... #worldglaucomaweek2020 #glaucoma #glaucomaprevention #eyehealth

15.01.2022 According to the World Health Organisation, studies indicate that about 80% of a persons lifetime UV exposure occurs before age 18. Teens and children spend a lot of time out in the sun, whether that be for playing sports, school events, during school lunch breaks, general outdoor play and other various outdoor activities. So it’s important to make sure your teens eyes are protected.... Quality sunglasses are a great first step! Preferably with a polarised lens for extra protection. If your teen wears optical glasses, there are lenses available that have built in UV protection also. #teenager #teenvision #eyehealth #sunprotection #optometry #sunshinecoastoptometrist #sippydowns
