17.01.2022 Just a reminder of our COVIDSafe procedures. Please phone the practice on (02) 5318 1771 when you arrive, so that we can ensure your therapist has the room ready before you enter the practice. We are doing this to minimise the amount of clients in the practice at one time and to ensure there are not too many people in reception at once. We are continuing to carry out extra cleaning between clients and wearing masks when unable to socially distance during treatments.

17.01.2022 There are changes proposed for how the NDIS allocates funds to participants. We believe it will negatively affect participants say in funds they receive and how they are used. There is a summary below from "Every Australian Counts". Please take the time to read this. We are preparing a submission to our local federal member regarding these changes and how it will affect our clients. I would encourage you to do the same, if you feel like you will be negatively affected.

12.01.2022 As we continue through World Continence Week, let's look at the impact of continence on men Why Well...... Incontinence doesn't just affect women! In fact, more than one in four men aged 70 and over suffer from incontinence, and this rate is even higher for those who have undergone prostate surgery or prostate cancer! Male pelvic floor treatment is also very different to treating incontinence in women. The good news is that there is very good evidence for physiotherapy in managing male incontinence . Research shows that those who commence structured pelvic floor training prior to prostate treatments have a over 75% reduction in incontinence at three months post surgery. Improvements can still occur without prior training (they just take a bit longer!) Evidence also supports physiotherapy and guided lifestyle changes as the first line interventions for male stress incontinence following prostate surgery. Chris is our Men's Health Physiotherapist and can help with male incontinence and prostate 'prehab'.

12.01.2022 Have you ever tried to lose weight but can’t seem to budge that fat on your legs? You may have a condition known as lipoedema. This condition affects mainly females, and there is little awareness of it in the medical profession and general community. There are treatments available and Erica has completed further training in the management of lipoedema. Photo is from Lipoedema Australia.

10.01.2022 We need your help!! Our research project is coming along nicely, and we need some ‘normal’ people (ie not health professionals) to read our posters and postcards to see if they make sense! Please read and comment below. Don’t take too much notice of formatting, we do intend to make them look prettier! After reading you should have a basic idea of what the project is and what it involves.

08.01.2022 Is running "bad" for your joints? This study proves that " running at a recreational level was found to have a protective effect against hip and knee osteoarthritis! Your knees might be sore initially after starting to run for the first time in a long time but this is only because you haven't used your joints in this manner in a while. You aren't causing damage - it's just your body adapting to the new load. ... Graded exposure to load (eg.walking, running or resistance training) is the best way to get those joints strong, healthy and pain free! Alentorn-Geli, E., Samuelsson, K., Musahl, V., Green, C. 07.01.2022 If you are booking online, there has been a change in the booking process. You will notice that the timezone has been added to the top of the online bookings calendar. Please check this is set to the correct zone, as we have had problems with this being set incorrectly and clients coming at the wrong time!! This is out of our control, I have made Cliniko aware and they are working on a fix. Hope you all have a great day, Erica.

06.01.2022 With winter upon us running or completing any higher intensity activity seems very hard to get motivated to do Winter and infections go hand in hand usually and infection is a massive focus in the world today. Thankfully exercise has been shown to increase our bodies defense against it!

05.01.2022 Disc protrusion completely resolves on its own! Here's a case report of a 28 year old with severe back and leg pain MRI November 2018 showed Large L4/5disc protrusion w severe cord narrowing/ crowding of cauda equina rootlets.... 7 months later and a new round of imaging MRI May 2019 showed reabsorption and now pain free! ... This is a great example of conservative Mx & ‘watch & wait’ approach. We don't know exactly what his treatment consisted of, but we know from the research that disc problems resolve on their own A meta-analysis (Zhong et al 2017) has shown that 2/3 of disc bulges spontaneously heal on their own! Many of them within a few months too, not years This does not mean that no one should ever undergo surgery. Each patient must be managed on an individual basis Reposted from Physio Network

04.01.2022 The gym is back! That is great news! But remember, if you've "taken it easy" for past few months, you should ease back into exercise to avoid injury And if you're carrying any niggling injuries, it is best to get this checked out early to avoid the risk of a serious problem! ... Our physiotherapist are all trained in return to sport, injury management/ prevention and strength & conditioning. Call on 53181 771 to book

03.01.2022 Scans?? A study completed in 2011 scanned the shoulders of men aged between 40-70 with no shoulder pain in the past year... 22% of the scans came back with evidence of a rotator cuff tear - that's over 1 in 5 people ... 78% had evidence of bursal thickening (the dreaded bursitis). That's nearly 4 in every 5 people! 96% had some sort of abnormality shown on the scan Scans are an important tool that can be used if needed, however, the result on the scan doesn't necessarily = pain as shown by this study This is why seeing a physiotherapist for a tailored strengthening program is so important because most of the time no matter what the scan results say, you will be able to get back to being pain free

02.01.2022 Strong feet The feet are often overlooked when it comes to training. We often see people with foot pain which is coming from either weak foot muscles or calf muscles.... Some really good foot strengthening exercises for muscles that are often forgotten about are shown in the pictures
