25.01.2022 A big well done to the children who have attended their appointments this week! You worked so hard despite either being on school holidays or in your final week of school for the year. Enjoy your weekend

24.01.2022 Unstructured play is essential for a child's development. "Providing a variety of play options, improved play access and fewer restrictions can encourage children to engage in physical activity with peers in line with their imaginations." https://theconversation.com/let-them-play-kids-need-freedom

22.01.2022 ~ ADULT SERVICE UPDATE ~ We’re sorry it has been a while between posts, but we thought it was important to provide you all with an update. We have decided to make the difficult decision to suspend all clinical services until further notice. ... We are trying to come up with innovative ways to be able to continue to provide some sort of intervention to our current caseload but this may take time. We won’t be accepting any new referrals for the time being. We are being guided by the government recommendations and Speech Pathology Australia. The clients we work with are all considered ‘high risk’ so the risk of being in close contact with them and potentially passing the virus on is too high. In other (very belated news) Maddie decided to finish up working with OST and has taken a full time position at Orange hospital. We were so blessed to have her for 2 years and I am going to miss her clinical skills, positive attitude and strong work ethic immensely. Kelsie Davis has come on board 2 days a week. We welcome her and her amazing diversity of skills to the team. Kelsie is a key word sign trainer and we’ve been busy booking up training days all over the western region. Unfortunately these have had to be postponed. Kelsie has also been working with NDIS clients and her disability experience is a massive asset to the team. Kelsie also expecting bub number 2 in June so will be taking a few months off. Difficult times ahead for us all. We hope you and your loved ones stays healthy. We will keep you updated about any changes and thank you for your understanding. Fiona

19.01.2022 Although uncommon, this article is a reminder that a stroke can impact young people too. Such a great story about the impact of a speech pathologist https://blog.cincinnatichildrens.org//how-speech-languag/

14.01.2022 COPY, COPY, COPY! You may feel a little silly constantly copying your baby, but imitation helps to wire your baby’s brain for the ability to communicate!

09.01.2022 ***Book of the Month*** This month’s book is ‘Hey Awesome’ by Karen Young. It’s a fabulous picture book to help children understand and overcome anxiety. It reminds children that everything they need to be brave, strong and brilliant is already there! #bookofthemonth #speechpathology #bookbasedideas

05.01.2022 ~ PAEDIATRIC SERVICE UPDATE ~ Dear families, Due to the uncertain impact of COVID-19, I have made the difficult decision to suspend my return from maternity leave until further notice. As a result, we will not be offering any paediatric services. We understand that wait times to see a paediatric speech pathologist are extensive in Orange, however we believe this is the safest option to look after our community. ... We hope you and your family stay well and healthy. Rachel

03.01.2022 ***Book of the Month*** This month’s book is ‘My Dog Socks’ by Robyn Osborne. A heart-warming picture book that explores friendship, loyalty and belonging. While most people think Socks is an ordinary dog, through the magic of a child’s imagination, he becomes and enchanted character with many disguises. A perfect read aloud book to share with children of all ages. #readingaloud #bookbasedideas #speechpathology

02.01.2022 A beautiful reminder to prioritise connection

01.01.2022 ***Book of the Month*** 'How to Light your Dragon' is a very funny and energetically illustrated book about a child trying to re-light a dragon's fire. Filled with humour and heart, zinging colours and creativity galore. We absolutely love this book! #speechtherapyideas #bookbasedlearning
