24.01.2022 Everyday is a great day at Orchard Law, especially when it’s the boss’ birthday! Happy Birthday Jenny Thank you Heather at Libertine Florist

23.01.2022 30 years ago today! I’ve certainly seen a lot of changes in the law and the way it is practised since then. I’ve met some great clients and formed wonderful relationships. It really has been a privilege to serve the communities in which I have lived and worked and I look forward to continuing to do so.

23.01.2022 This is incredibly sad. No one should suffer domestic violence.

19.01.2022 Welcome to 2019. We are back on deck and looking forward to working with you all throughout the year.

18.01.2022 Such a true leader. If only the world had more of his ilk.

18.01.2022 We love it when we are thanked for our work but our best results are achieved as a result of team work with our clients.

17.01.2022 Congratulations and best wishes for a lifetime of happiness to our wonderful assistant Tess Taylor on her engagement to Josh Strauss

14.01.2022 Our clients, their families and our community are of paramount importance to us. We treat both Commonwealth and State Government announcements very seriously. ...We wish to reassure our clients that we are well placed to continue working on current matters and take on new work in a socially responsible manner by conducting all appointments by telephone, FaceTime or Skype. The courts have put in place measures to deal with urgent matters relating to domestic violence and urgent children’s issues. If this is likely to impact you please call. Other measures have been put in place to ensure matters progress as best as possible in the circumstances. We appreciate these are very anxious and trying times for all of us. We are here to assist you in any way we can and are more than happy for you to call to obtain advice at anytime. You may continue to call the office telephone number or welcome to call Jenny Orchard directly on 0419582811. Please stay safe. Wash your hands, look after your families and take social distancing seriously. Above all, remember we are here for you.

10.01.2022 Parents are naturally concerned about their obligations to comply with parenting orders at present. The Chief Justice of the Family Court has issued a media release hoping to provide some guidance. The overwhelming message seems to be that current orders must be complied with, but the primary consideration of the best interests of the children in the circumstances will prevail. What that means for individual families will vary. If you are unsure of your obligations we are happy to offer you telephone advice at no charge. For more information please see the following link:

10.01.2022 Can a child have more than two parents? The High Court has recently held that a sperm donor can be considered a parent. In reaching its decision, the Court held that a parent for the purpose of the Family Law Act is a question of fact and degree, determined according to the ordinary, contemporary understanding of a ‘parent’ and the relevant circumstances of the case at hand. The decision has the potential to change contemporary views of who many be considered a parent for the purposes of the Family Law Act. Anyone contemplating a sperm donor arrangement should seek legal advice prior to doing so.
