Where is Big Bear? Is she up high or is she down low? ... I wonder how well your spotting will go. If you can find Big Bear and her wild friends, snap a quick photo and let us know! Big Bear has quite a few friends including: Ollie the Orangutan Owen the Octopus George the Gorilla Tommy the Tiger Cian the Crocodile Krystal the Koala Koby the Kookaburra Pippa the Parrot Hugo the Hippopotamus **named after some of our children/staff** For the safety of everyone, if you do pop down, please encourage your children to look; not touch and remember social distancing guidelines. Also, your welcome to park up in our bays or along the curb if you are participating in the bear hunts around basso but please be mindful of our families needing those bays during drop offs/pick ups between 7:00-8:30am & 3:30-6pm. 23.01.2022 The last few weeks have been nothing like we have experienced before, and I know everyone is eager to have some certainty for the coming few months and beyond. ...Today, I can provide details for parents and teachers with regards to the start of Term 2 at WA public schools. The medical advice regarding schools remains clear the risks of COVID-19 transmission at schools is very low. So we have come up with an approach thats consistent with the best health advice at hand for WA. Term Two will start back on Wednesday April 29, the Wednesday after the ANZAC Day long weekend. WA public schools will then be open for all parents and carers who choose to send their children. But for anyone who does not want their children to attend school in person, they can continue learning from home. However, Year 11 and 12 students are strongly encouraged to attend in person given the critical stage they are at in their schooling. For those learning from home, education packages and resources will be provided, as well as online resources where possible. This soft opening is about transitioning students back into our classrooms in a responsible manner, to receive the best education, without risking the health of students, staff or parents. Where schools can provide online support and teaching for students at home, this will be implemented. For those students learning from home, contact by the school will be made each week by phone and/or online and feedback given on work package completion. Parents and carers of children and young people with complex medical needs are encouraged to seek medical advice regarding attendance at school. With regard to safety, schools will implement the following: alternative arrangements as required for vulnerable employees; increased cleaning throughout the day, including high touch surfaces and playground equipment; parents and visitors will drop students at the gate and not enter grounds; additional hygiene measures and social distancing measures; school swimming pools will remain closed; excursions, assemblies, camps and interschool activities will not be conducted; canteens will provide take away services only. Schools can also implement staggered start, break and meal times to reduce contact and close, or practise social distancing in, common areas and staff rooms. Additionally, schools will be able to combine year groups and use alternative locations within the school boundaries to deliver classes. There will be a review of these arrangements in the lead up to week 4 and any adjustments will be made based on health advice and infection trends across the community. Schools will maintain good communication with parents providing up to date information about arrangements. If there are any localised positive COVID-19 cases in schools, the existing health protocols will apply. This includes closing and deep cleaning of the school. The school will reopen once this has occurred and quarantine and self-isolation protocols will be implemented for any close contacts identified through Health Department contact tracing. I want to thank everyone for their patience and hard work over the past few weeks - especially our educators, who have been working so hard to get us ready for term two with the flexibility were going to need.

23.01.2022 Often our children feel out of control as we, the adults, make the majority of their decisions/choices for them.. This approach can help manage those moments, offering a reasonable choice and some control to the little people in our lives..

20.01.2022 Thought for the day... "Often when we are trying really hard to attain something, we end up missing the fact that weve had it in our hands the whole time. Sure, letting your kids blow off school for a fun day together can be wonderfully special but so can the 20-minute drive in traffic to school. So can mailing a letter or watching a garbage truck meander through the neighborhood. All time with your kids all time with anyone you love is created equal. What you do with it is what makes it special. Not where. Or for how long. Or at what cost."

19.01.2022 I know the situation around our public schools has been causing angst for parents, teachers, staff and students. I understand that it may be confusing, but we...ve kept them open, consistent with the best medical advice at hand through the National Cabinet process. Today, as the pandemic situation moves forward, we move to the next step. Firstly, from Monday, March 30, we will now encourage parents to keep children at home if they can, and access the online learning resources we have made available. However, all children who do attend public schools will continue to be taught. Where parents need children to attend school to enable them to maintain employment, and for those children in vulnerable families, like children living with grandparents, they are encouraged to continue to attend school. Public schools will remain open from Monday, March 30 to Friday, April 3. In addition, formal classes will now finish at the end of Friday, April 3, one week earlier than planned. Teachers and education assistants will now use this time to plan and prepare for a new way of teaching from the start of Term 2, with work continuing through the school holidays. However, arrangements will be in place in schools to supervise children who need to attend school on the last four days prior to Easter, where parents require it to maintain their employment, or due to a personal situation. It is crucial for us to strike the right balance between keeping the community safe, allowing essential services to continue and provide a quality education to our students in this difficult time. I want to reassure parents that our schools are well prepared to continue to provide education for their children. Thank you to the parents and carers of Western Australian children for their understanding and support for school staff as we navigate our way together through this unprecedented situation. And thank you to our teachers, education assistants and all school staff for the essential work they do across our State. This is an incredibly difficult situation, thank you for your patience, and we will let you know about plans for Term 2 as soon as possible.

15.01.2022 Parenting is a privilage and the most responsible and life changing career you will ever embark on. Its not all fluffy love, cuddliness, rainbows and laughters.... It will change everything that you are and grow you on so many levels. It will challenge all your fears and you will find strength you never knew you had. A spirit has chosen your CV from the millions of applicants wanting to be parents. Your credentials match its plan of Self exploration in the world of humans. It has considered every minute details about you. It has observed your daily thoughts, emotions, habits and knows you at your Core, more than you know your Self. It knows your Soul and the many lives you have lived. All this it has watched and learned of you before it arrived at its decision. There are lessons it wants to explore and everthing about you will create the perfect experience for its illumination and growth. It will experience everything about you, the good and bad, the ups and downs, the laughters and sadness, the joy and pain, the failures and success and everthing else you put on its path. Yes, you are the most suitable incredible experience to learn and evolve a deeper knowing of it Self. It knows it is coming into a world of imperfection and that is the enticing probability that it has come through you to explore. You are perfect as you are. Over the course of your relationship that spirit that is birthing or now your child will either elevate your whole life into so many directions of growth or you will fail because you didnt see the lessons and settled for the dramas. Parenting is the most responsible role in any human career. It means you have matured enough to put another lifes needs before your own and you will do your best to give it all the opportunities to spread its wings and fly so it can realise its unique gifts and potentials. If you are a parent today, you are one of the lucky chosen. Not every application is accepted for many reasons. So enjoy your role and let your child show you a new way of living and a new world it came to open for you. Learning is a two way street. You have in your care a Spirit that is wiser than you, it is the next generation.

14.01.2022 In line with today’s press conference, I just have a few updates to provide: Today, parts of Western Australia in the Perth, Peel and South West regions - hav...e entered their first full day of lockdown, following the serious situation that came to light yesterday. I’d like to thank all Western Australians for their response so far. So many West Australians have been cooperative and understanding, which is exactly what we need right now. This has been a rapidly evolving situation. I know it has been difficult, and I know it may be frustrating. But if we can all work together and do the right thing over the next few days, we will increase our chances of crushing the virus once again. Just like we’ve done before. The early signs have been encouraging, but we need to keep it up, at least until the end of the week. Listen to the instructions. Stay at home. Look after one another. TESTING AND CLOSE CONTACTS As you know, since the hotel quarantine worker returned a positive test, our contact tracing and testing teams have swung into action. Overnight, Western Australia has recorded no further local cases of COVID-19. We've also recorded no new overseas cases in hotel quarantine. Yesterday, 3,171 tests were conducted at our public COVID clinics. A majority of these tests were done in the afternoon and evening, and given we normally only have about 500 tests on a Sunday, that number is welcomed. But we need more tests done. There has been extensive testing of the close contacts of the positive case, and that will continue. In total, 13 close contacts have now tested negative. And of those, 11 high risk have been moved into hotel quarantine, as an extra precaution. In total, to date, we have identified 66 close contacts, all of which have been tested or will be today, and will remain in quarantine. As the contact tracing team does further work, the number of close contacts could also increase. These are encouraging signs, but it’s still early days. COVID CLINICS As flagged yesterday, anyone who has visited the list of known hotspots should get tested as soon as they can. This morning, one additional location was added to that list a convenience store on Milligan Street in the City called ‘Grab N Go’ There will be a lot of people heading to COVID clinics over the next few days to get tested. This is expected, and we are putting in additional resources at the clinics to help manage the increase. All of our COVID clinics across the Perth metropolitan area will remain open until 10pm. People can also get tested at private pathology collection centres, including the various drive through facilities. The full list of the testing locations and exposure sites is available here: www.wa.gov.au We are doing everything we can to minimise delays, but people will need to be patient. As experienced across the country and across the world, lines at testing clinics are the norm, as testing someone for COVID-19 is not a quick process. I know it’s hot out there, so please, if you are going to get tested, bring some water and wear a hat. By getting tested, because you are either sick or have been to one of the exposure locations at the times published, you are performing your civic duty as Western Australians so thank you. The more tests we can perform, the better we can manage this situation. I also want to acknowledge our health staff at these clinics, who are doing a fantastic job, working longer hours that they expected at the drop of a hat. Thank you for the service you are providing us all. MASKS It’s very encouraging to see people listening to the advice around masks. We need to keep it up for at least the rest of the week I want to assure Western Australians that we have a large number of masks available. I understand there are people who, for whatever reason, have not been able to purchase a mask at this point. Police will be taking a common sense approach in these situations, while people adjust to the new rules. Can I thank the police officers for the role they are playing and for helping provide masks to people who do not have one. We are also distributing masks to community organisations, so ensure that vulnerable people in particular can access them. REGIONAL TRAVEL INFORMATION As you know, the Perth metropolitan area, the Peel region and the South West region are now in lockdown. Anyone in these regions should not leave during the lockdown period. People can enter Perth, Peel or the South West only to access or deliver essential health and emergency services and other essential requirements, or to return to their home. WA Police have established seven checkpoints in the Perth area and another eight in the regions. Non-residents currently in Perth, Peel and the South West are required to remain until the end of the restriction period, unless you meet an exceptional circumstance. Police will ask you to simply justify why you need to be out and about during the lockdown. If you need to travel between regions, please ensure you have supporting evidence, like a letter from your employer or evidence or a medical appointment. For the purposes of this lockdown, like we did early last year, Perth and Peel are treated as one region, so if people do need to travel for one of the four reasons, they can do so between Perth and Peel. A G2G Pass system for this regional lockdown is in development and will is expected to be rolled out later today. This is like the system we had in place, when we had regional travel restrictions. We have been here before, we know what is required, and our Police are getting it done. CHECK POINT INFO AND G2G INFO Overall the message to everyone is to STAY HOME. During this five-day lockdown, we want as many people as possible to stay home and minimise movement as much as possible. There are four reasons only to leave home, and I ask everyone to follow these rules. WA Police have provided a list of essential workers and it may not be perfect, but for this short period of time we are asking people to apply common sense. If you MUST work, and you cannot do it from home or work remotely, you may leave home. But it has to be for an essential purpose. For example, FIFO workers: we have communicated with all companies that no one should be leaving the Perth, Peel or South West region to fly up to a mine site this week, with some limited exemptions. Especially for specialists required to keep mines operating. We asking everyone to do the right thing here. Childcares, for example, have been allowed to stay open, BUT only to provide care for children of essential workers. SHOPPING CENTRES I have to say I was disappointed to see some of the vision of people panic buying at shopping centres yesterday. There is just no need for it. As we have always said during lockdown, people are permitted to visit the shops to pick up groceries. I urge people to be reasonable and only take what you need. Think of our elderly citizens, who may not be able to get to the shops easily. There will be enough supplies for everyone. To assist, I can confirm that we’ve allowed Coles and Woolworths to open an hour earlier, from 7am. This is primarily to help older Western Australians, and to help limit the rush. Please check if your local store is opening earlier, as that is up to each individual store. Can I say again the most important thing is for everyone to remain calm and refrain from panic buying. It’s completely unnecessary. Non-essential retail shops are now closed, as part of this fiveday lockdown. POLICE INVESTIGATION As mentioned yesterday, investigations are underway to find out exactly how the hotel quarantine worker picked up the virus. As you would be aware, we have had a number of reviews of our COVID-19 systems, including from our Auditor General, the National Review into Hotel Quarantine by Jane Halton, which was released by National Cabinet and the National Contact Tracing Review by Dr Alan Finkell, Dr Tarun Weeramanthri and Leigh Jasper. All these reviews found our systems to be sound. However, given the latest incident, a further review of WA’s hotel quarantine arrangements, processes and procedures will be undertaken immediately, including any learnings from incidents in other states and internationally, and recent incidents in WA. The review will be led by Professor Tarun Weeramanthri, previous Chief Health Officer in WA and the Northern Territory, and participant of the National Review of contact tracing led by Professor Finkel. I can also announce today that the WA Police Force will launch a full investigation into how this COVID-19 case came about. We must get to the bottom of what happened. WA Police will allocate strong resources into this investigation. They have the forensic expertise to do the work that is required. This will run parallel with the review led by our former Chief Health Officer. We will leave no stone unturned to ensure we find out exactly what happened and prevent it from happening again.

05.01.2022 ** UPDATE ** 3-year-old missing boy James has been located in bushland alive by a family member who was assisting with the land search operation. Given the tim...e he has spent exposed to the rough terrain and poor weather conditions, arrangements will be made for him to have a medical check-up as a precaution. WA Police Force thanks all the emergency service volunteers and community members who assisted with the search. Original Post: Police are searching for a missing 3-year-old boy James in the area around Karli Rise, Yallingup. James was last seen about 7:30am today, Saturday 19 September 2020. James is described as fair skinned with blonde hair and blue eyes. He is wearing white Spiderman pyjamas. It is believed James is also wearing wellington boots. Anyone who sees James is asked to remain with him and call Police immediately on 000. While some search resources will scale down overnight, Police will remain in the search area and continue to conduct patrols and search for James. If James is not located by tonight, the full search operation will continue tomorrow. Important message from Police in relation to locals residents attending the search area: - Thank you to everyone who has attended the search area. The response has been significant. - It is important members of the public do not venture into the bushland areas as they may inadvertently compromise evidence of where James has walked, and that could impact on the ability of trained searchers to track his movements. - Anyone who is in the area already is asked to stick to the main tracks and roads. - At this time there is no need for further members of the public to attend the location. - For those people who are already on site it is important they register their attendance at the Incident Command Post which is located at the DFES SES building on Caves Road. Post last updated at 7:20pm 19/09/2020.
