24.01.2022 What an amazing story! We hope that this organ will find a worthy place to live on... https://www.abc.net.au//hope-chamber-organ-needs-/12252046

23.01.2022 Some organists have been busy in this time of undesired seclusion. Here are two virtual performances on a world famous organ with a sound that almost defies comprehension. Both emanating from Brisbane Queensland Australia. Organ Society member Greg Hartay-Szabo is the performer (and builder of the instrument too). https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=R0oE1RuC20M&feature=share and https://youtu.be/ZmKukJn6kB4

23.01.2022 (Courtesy of Stephen Best...fascinating!) Even back in 1888, the organist was considered a magnet for controversy. Hence, the organ is depicted as a dispenser of political arguments, while the organist does his best in the face of swirling disagreements. However, no matter what stop he pulls on, he's in trouble. "Please don't shoot the organist," the caption begins. The "organist", Whitelaw Reid, was owner of the New York Tribune, a prominent Republican, and vice presidential candidate in the election of 1892. He was the subject of many satirical drawings in "Puck". (Introduction also by S.B.) Would anyone know even a single organist nowadays who would be the owner of a large newspaper or news portfolio?!

22.01.2022 A little musical moment to brighten our COVID-isolation Cantilène pastorale by Alexandre Guilmant (1837-1911), played on the beautiful Hill organ of St Pauls Presbyterian Church, Brisbane - on the centenary of the organ. This piece was also part of the original programme in 1883! (Assisted by Denis Wayper; edited by Kathy Williams-Devries.) https://youtu.be/ptTO3lROqLc

17.01.2022 Here is a short concert (30+minutes) from the Iceland organist Eythor Wechner who gave us the Iceland Express concert in Brisbane in 2016, which was very memorable. This organ is in the main Cathedral of Reykjavik.

13.01.2022 Dear colleagues, politically related posts rarely feature here but you might wish to add your own comments if you are a paid church musician - especially if you are or used to be on staff/on salary as a professional organist. https://www.facebook.com/104598631263/posts/10158968220316264/?d=n

04.01.2022 The great Hector Olivera is coming to Queensland. Not once, not twice, but three times, so there is no reason to miss this organ music wizard. He played City Hall a couple of years ago and left us wanting more. So get set for three occasions: Wed March 18 at the Gold Coast; Tuesday March 24 at Brisbane City Hall, and Sat March 28 at Christ Church St Lucia. See the organ Society of Qld Website for details https://www.organsociety.com.au/events

02.01.2022 While the cathedral building may be closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, the centuries-old tradition of worship and music-making is continuing albeit in a very different way, with a special programme of online worship on the cathedral website and the Norwich Cathedral Services YouTube Channel. The cathedral would also like to help churches across the diocese with their own digital worship by providing organ recordings of hymns, without singing, for use in online services.... These will be recorded on request by the cathedrals master of music, Ashley Grote, and assistant organist, George Inscoe, on their digital practice organs at home. https://www.edp24.co.uk//catedral-recording-organ-music-fo
