19.01.2022 Drooling can be addressed! Some drooling with babies and toddlers is totally normal but excessive or persistent drooling can be a sign of a bigger issue. If a child is drooling, its safe to assume that their mouth is open. The first step is to consider if their mouth is open due to an airway obstruction or due to abnormal oral muscle function. Myofunctional therapy assists with lip seal and swallow which directs saliva where it is supposed to go rather than out of the mouth.

19.01.2022 The Australian Dental Association has released a new statement on the treatment of ankyloglossia (tongue tie) and I would like to acknowledge all of those people and institutions who are working toward building the research for the benefit of our community. I would like to highlight a few points which have become a recent subject for discussion amongst our valued clients and colleagues. Please ensure if you have been diagnosed with a tongue tie you make sure its a diagnos...is from someone with a medical or dental degree in addition to further training. As Orofacial Myologists committed to ethical standards we do not diagnose! Rather we work collaboratively with professionals who can. Unfortunately not all people are following ethical standards and it makes me so upset that these reckless people could damage the reputation of the profession that I so truly adore. Please make sure anyone who is recommending surgery is qualified to recommend surgical intervention!!
