25.01.2022 ABC Gippsland have picked up our story and have provided a very fair and unbiased interview with a couple of community members wanting to save the Ostlers House Building and also with the owner, Ben Weaver. Hear what they have to say on the abc website.
24.01.2022 A new notice applying for a permit to demolish the building has been placed on the FRONT of Ostlers House, with objections due in by 7th September, 2012. Council have advised existing objectors, in writing, that they will be kept informed of the progress of this matter. If it is determined that the building is going to require significant repairs, would you prefer to a) See it refurbished in the existing location, or b) see it relocated to a public space such as Kay Street Gardens or Victory Park, and have it restored in that location (this hasn't been suggested by the owners or Council at this stage, but just thought I'd put it out there for comment, to see what people think!).
22.01.2022 A Planning Mediation Meeting will be held by Latrobe City Council between the applicants (wanting to demolish Ostlers House) and the Objectors, on 29 November, 2012. We'll give you an update as soon as we know more, following that meeting!
22.01.2022 Mediation was held last night, between formal objectors, the owners and Council. It was a polite meeting, where we all ended up agreeing to disagree, regarding the future of Ostlers House. It will now have to go to a full Council Meeting, as it was obvious that it couldn't be resolved at mediation. The process was fair and well chaired by Kellie O'Callaghan. Ostlers House lives to see another day (for now!). Like our page to stay up to date with the latest news on the fate of this lovely little workers building.
20.01.2022 According to the article in Latrobe Valley Express today, the owner of Ostlers House has advised that "the foundations are falling away the facade has split; it needs to be pulled down before it falls down and kills someone." Latrobe City Council General Manager, Governance, Carol Jeffs said council had not made a decision on the application as yet. "Although the official notification period closed on Friday, council will continue to accept objections," Ms Jeffs said, addin...g council would decide on the building's fate at an upcoming council meeting. She went on to say that applications could be submitted for the demolition of a structure which is under the Heritage Overlay. The owner clarified that the building was not heritage listed. "The entire Traralgon central business district is under the Heritage Overlay, but only a few buildings are actually heritage listed; the hotel and this building are not among it," the owner said. He has owned the building for about 18 years, and said he believed he had done everything the right way. "If council decides not to demolish it, that's fine; if it does kill somoene, it's not our responsibility because we endeavoured to do something about it. He also advised that "if people want to have a look, I advise them not to get too close because it is is collapsing". for the full article, read today's Latrobe Valley Express. See more

18.01.2022 VCAT Hearing ran for 1.5 days. Now we wait for a decision to see if the Little Ostlers House will be saved.
18.01.2022 A Planning Mediation Meeting will be held by Latrobe City Council between the applicants (who want to demolish Ostlers House) and Objectors, on 29/11/12. We'll give you an update as soon as we know more!
16.01.2022 WELL, 16th October IS "D DAY" FOR ME... My owners are going to VCAT to try to overturn the previous decision not to let me be demolished :-( They've armed themselves with lawyers and 3 x "expert reports" that will try to say that I'm not worth saving. I'm only little, I don't take up much space (only about one car spot), but I'm a very significant piece of Traralgon's history. Please wish me luck.
14.01.2022 There is an Application in place with Latrobe City Council, by the current owners of the Ostlers House, to demolish this lovely old piece of Traralgon's history. They have submitted a report to Council from a Building Surveyor/Engineer, who has indicated that the building is damaged beyond repair. This is in direct conflict with the Latrobe City Heritage Study, completed in 2007, which states on page 397, "the overall condition of the building is good". Objections had to be ...submitted by 10th August 2012, and a number of organisations and individuals have lodged objections. We will keep you informed of the progress of this matter on this page.
14.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS RE: OSTLERS HOUSE: COUNCIL RECOMMENDATION That Council issues a notice of Refusal to Grant a Planning Permit, for the demolition of a building commonly known as Ostlers House of the land at Lot 2 on PS 314881, more commonly known as 171 Franklin Street, Traralgon on the following grounds:... 1. The proposal is not consistent with Clause 15 Built Natural Environment and Heritage as the proposal is for the demolition of a heritage listed building with no alternative use or development proposed. 2. The proposal is not consistent with Clause 15.03-1 Heritage conservation as the proposal is for the demolition of a heritage listed building. 3. The proposal is not consistent with Clause 21.04-4 Heritage Overview and the incorporated document Latrobe City Heritage Study 2010. 4. The proposal is not consistent with the Purpose of Clause 43.01, the Heritage Overlay. 5. The proposal is not consistent with the Decision Guidelines of Clause 43.01-4, the Heritage Overlay. 6. The proposal is not consistent with Clause 65 Decision Guidelines. This will be discussed at Monday evening's Council Meeting. I understand (without being an expert on this stuff, that the owners will have a right to object to the Council decision, but at this stage, Ostlers House lives to see another day!
09.01.2022 A Planning Mediation Meeting will be held by Latrobe City Council on 29 November 2012, between the applicants wanting to demolish Ostlers House and the objectors. We'll let you know how things go following that meeting.
07.01.2022 The owners of Ostlers House have appealed Council's decision to oppose the demolition of this lovely little old building. I am not yet aware of the date of the VCAT Hearing, however, it is a requirement of Council to inform all official objectors, and I will be following this up tomorrow morning, and will then confirm the hearing date.
07.01.2022 Very good news tonight at the Council meeting. Councillors voted 8-0 to accept the Officers recommendation to reject the Application to Demolish Ostlers House.
01.01.2022 Today was the last day for lodging an objection to the owners VCAT Appeal. We haven't been advised of a hearing date yet, but I guess it won't be long now! Hang in there little Ostlers House, the community loves you!
