25.01.2022 Today would have been Dr A Jean Ayres' 100th birthday and although COVID prevented attending an international congress and celebration in honour of Dr Ayres, it remains fitting to pay tribute to this amazing, pioneer occupational therapist. Her theory and frame of reference forever shaped the way I understand and help a child for the better, and for that I am very grateful. Happy Birthday! #AyresSensoryIntegration #Ayres100 #OccupationalTherapy

11.01.2022 OT’s would typically look at visual perception (what your brain makes sense of what the eyes see), and ocular motor control as part of an assessment. It is not the same as vision which an optometrist test. Let’s look at a few red flags for visual tracking difficulties.... #JulEYE #TherapyThursday

05.01.2022 As with all things in this COVID era, I'll bring my dogs to work in virtual reality. It's not as if they are trained therapy dogs anyway. In fact, they need OT themselves! Bella (left) is our sensory dog. Many a doormat had to be thrown out during winter because she really struggles to walk on wet grass. She is easily overwhelmed in new situations and can cry the most heart-breaking doggie cries if she misses her human family (her sister doesn't count as family in those inst...ances...) Rosie (right) has more Maltese than Shih Tzu in her and oh boy, she can be busy! And impulsive. She has a short attention span and most definitely doesn't follow instructions when distracted. Rosie struggles to perceive danger - she would take on a lion... if only her humans would let go of the leash... Both are master cuddle-buddies. We could not imagine our lives without them. Share with us your dog story and let's take our dogs to work today (real life or virtual!)

04.01.2022 "Thinking of You Week is a special week that harnesses the emotional power of greeting cards to create a wave of love, caring and happiness around the world. Sending handwritten cards generates positive feelings and wellbeing. Science has shown that receiving a handwritten card creates a lovely warm positive boost. The fact that you have spent the time to make or chose a card, write it and send it makes people feel far more special and cared for than receiving instant texts, emails or Facebook messages."
