At all times ensure that you remain up to date with state and federal guidelines and put in place all reasonable measures to prevent the spread of the virus. https://www.otdrivereducation.com.au/covid-19 See more

20.01.2022 Last week we held a very successful zoom meeting with a group of Driver Assessor OT's and Driving Instructors from NSW, Victoria and Queensland to discuss the challenges of safely resuming OT Driving Assessments and driver rehab programmes in the current COVID-19 climate. The following guide for OT's considering resuming assessments has come out of the discussion at that meeting; thanks to everyone who participated. Remember to monitor advice from state and federal authorities and consider your own situation when making decisions about restarting assessments in your own practice. 15.01.2022 Life as we know it has certainly been turned upside down over the last week or two and we hope everyone is doing ok at the moment. A big question from Driver Assessor OTs this week has been whether we should continue with driving assessments in light of the announcement that OT is considered an essential service. Current social distancing guidelines call for 1 person per 4 square metres for inside gatherings.... Considering that an on-road assessment requires 3 people to be in the vehicle in a confined space, weve gotten out our tape measures and measured a few vehicles to help make a decision on this. Most vehicles have less than 2 square metres internal space. Even with the most stringent use of PPE and infection control procedures you cannot eliminate the risk of transmission in such a confined space. There has been talk of continuing with off-road assessments via telehealth in the interim and completing on-road assessments at a later date. Weve put together a list of things to consider when applying telehealth to a driving assessment: How will you modify the off road assessment to ensure you are still completing a thorough assessment that complies with the competency standards? If you feel you can complete a thorough off road assessment, consider how much time delay is reasonable between completing the off road assessment and the on road assessment, given that you can't complete an on road assessment via telehealth? This is our personal opinion and we would be interested to hear your thoughts on this. Lyndall and Michelle

14.01.2022 NSW Health have advised that masks should be worn by all health professionals for face to face treatment that breaches the 1.5m social distancing. Although this only applies to NSW Health employees it is a good general guide for everyone to follow, especially considering that social distancing cannot be maintained during driving assessments.

09.01.2022 Are you a driving OT who'd like the chance to network informally with fellow driving OT's from around Australia? We know that working as a driving OT often means you are working in solo practice which can be isolating. Driving OT's frequently tell us that they appreciate the opportunity to catch up with other driving OT's to discuss a variety of topics. This has never been more important than it has been this year. Following on from the success of our recent Wine and Chees...e COVID zoom chats and to build on feedback from participants in our series of free webinars, OT Driver Ed is pleased to invite you to our new online networking event - On The Road Again. A time to sit back and informally chat about OT Driver Assessment and rehab with other therapists who understand those first time driving highs, the lows of driving cessation and everything in between. Share your driving assessment adventures with like minded OT's. Join us on Wednesday 5th August 2020 at 4:30pm.
