If you do not do it, your application will end up in the rubbish bin and not even considered. What is the purpose of the selection criteria? Well, for starters, the Employer wants to see if you can contribute to their key performance indicators and how you can do it. Therefore, you need to tell them in one or more paragraphs for each selection criterio...n when you did it, how you did it and what was the outcome, for example: In 2010, I redeveloped our marketing campaign by including social media messages. This had as a result that the 10% increase goal of new car sales was achieved, and I received a bonus as the best performer in the sales team for that year. Secondly, if you address the selection criteria properly, you will be measured against the other jobseekers, who, hopefully, did not put so much effort into their application but the playing field is level for the Employer who has to look at all applications.
