25.01.2022 It's a bit hot for baking (40+ deg) but my daughter 'needs' Mum's bread so these spelt sourdough loaves, which I proved overnight and baked this morning, are catching a lift to Perth tonight.

23.01.2022 300 page likes! Thanks everyone for your interest in Outback Larder. Have a great weekend....I will be gardening as much as I can in the glorious spring weather we are having.

23.01.2022 Walking through the orchard at the moment is like being in a perfume factory with many of the citrus trees in flower. The first apricot blossoms are out and, although not highly perfumed, they are gorgeous to the eye. I am so grateful to live here with good water and soil, clean air and isolated from many insects and plant diseases which can make gardening a real challenge. The main thing we and the garden have to cope with is blistering hot summers, but if they didn't exist everyone would want to live here!

21.01.2022 Inspiration for a salad to take to a community event tomorrow. Am thinking I will roast and pair with Puy lentils, spinach and feta but am open to suggestions from you!

19.01.2022 Happy New Year Everyone- I hope its a cracker for growing, cooking and eating great food. I rarely come back from my morning trip to the garden empty handed and this morning was no exception. My new favourite summer vegetable is snake beans- they seem to love the heat and are producing prolifically. I've got dwarf (the purple ones) and tall ones. The funny looking veg here was grown from seed given to me at least 5 years ago. It's called Cucuzza or New Guinea bean. It is ac...tually an edible gourd, grows on a pretty vine and is not unlike zucchini to eat. I like to pick them young but they will grow over a metre long if you let them. They too love the heat....and boy is it hot at the moment!! The figs are slowly coming on- Yum! I pick a little handful of capers most days and they go straight into a jar of brine. The yellow tomatoes are doing well and are less attractive to the birds than the red ones. These ones are called Wapsipinicon Peach- I just like saying it! What's your favourite vegetable to grow in summer? See more

19.01.2022 I love how the garden inspires my cooking. I’m thinking lemongrass pork belly with sautéed snake beans, followed by lime panna cotta with caramelised figs. The mulberries I will eat fresh

13.01.2022 Getting an impromptu lesson on making the best green papaya salad at the night markets in Luang Prabang, Laos. Sorry for the quality of the video.

09.01.2022 The weather is very strange at the moment. Yesterday the wind was cool from the north -most unusual unless it's coming off a thunderstorm- and this morning it is raining from the south west which is also very unusual at this time of year. I went to take the dogs for a walk but got stuck in the garage while it poured down. I wont have to water the garden today...yipee!!

05.01.2022 This morning's bake- 300g wholewheat spelt, 500g white spelt, 200g khorasan (kamut), 650g water, 200g rye starter, 22g salt. Overnight proof. Love the colour the khorasan flour gives it.

02.01.2022 I'm a bit late to the party but Happy Easter everyone. Hope you have a lovely weekend. I baked these sourdough hot cross buns this morning, after an overnight proof. I hope they taste as good as they smell!
