20.01.2022 CRUISE SHIP BAN EXTENDED: The Australian Government is believed to have extended the cruise ship ban until 15 Jun 2020. Princess Cruises Senior Vice President Asia Pacific Stuart Allison provided an update on Saturday to travel agents, saying the line was evaluating all of its planned departures, which had been previously suspended from 12 Mar through to 11 May. Carnival Australia & P&O Cruises Australia President Sture Myrmell also said, We are naturally disappointed on you...r behalf that we must now cancel more cruises to adhere to the extended pause in operations but P&O must continue to support the authorities in their efforts to protect the community’s health and well-being. Apologies if we are struggling to reply promptly but this information should help: Australian travellers bounce back very quickly once these crises end, so there is a general industry request for people to accept postponement of arrangements rather than to can...cel and we strongly support this. Here FYI is the official position from the ACCC as supplied by CATO (Please SHARE): Situation: My flight, cruise or tour has been cancelled. Question: Am I entitled to a refund? If your travel is cancelled the ACCC expects that you will receive a refund or other remedy, such as a credit note or voucher, in most circumstances. However, if the event is cancelled due to government restrictions, this impacts your rights under the consumer guarantees. You may still be entitled to a refund under the terms and conditions of your ticket. You should contact the business directly to request a refund or other remedy such as a credit note or voucher. The ACCC encourages all businesses to treat consumers fairly in these exceptional circumstances. Situation: My flight, cruise or tour service has been cancelled. Question: Am I entitled to compensation for related expenses booked separately, such as accommodation? You should first approach the provider of the related service to see if they are prepared to offer a refund, replacement service or voucher. You should also check whether you are covered under any travel insurance policy. 15.01.2022 NEWS FLASH: P&O and Carnival plan to resume voyages from 15 May. Carnival Australia has just announced the extension of the voluntary suspension of Australian and New Zealand sailings by P&O Cruises and Carnival Cruise Line. The details around the temporary pause are different for guests in Australia and New Zealand, due to different approaches from each Government in relation to the resumption of international cruising. Carnival Australia CEO Sture Myrmell said the company ...aimed to make it as simple as possible for passengers in both Australia and New Zealand to have confidence in booking future cruises. In Australia, P&O Cruises will resume its operations on 15 May 2020, a month after the previously announced resumption date, affecting ten Pacific Dawn and Pacific Explorer voyages. In New Zealand P&O will suspend voyages until 30 June 2020, consistent with the NZ Government's approach, impacting 11 Pacific Aria cruises. P&O is also cancelling its State of Origin and Taste of Tasmania (formerly Dark Mofo) departures, with the aim of providing certainty for guests. Carnival Cruise Line also plans to resume its Australian voyages on 15 May 2020, after discussions with the Australian Government. 11.01.2022 CRUISECO Chairman Kevin Dale reports there is every reason for optimism.In an opinion poll of around 1,600 consumers, 91% suggested they would consider taking a cruise holiday in the future, assuming the implementation of stricter health measures, with 62% also considering booking domestic travel again this year.... However, Dale stressed that although 71% of respondents’ opinion about travel agents had not been affected, the cruise industry still needed to win public confidence by adopting robust COVID-safe protocols. Other notable results included 85% saying they are happy to consider a trip to New Zealand or the south Pacific once the virus is contained, 71% of respondents believing it is okay to be receiving offers now for future travel opportunities, and 42% considering cruising to still have a positive perception. River cruising is my all-time favourite holiday and we would have been happily heading to France for one this week except for the need to stay close to the office during the current challenging period. In the middle of this 44-day cruise, Vikiing Polaris, will depart Ireland on Day 14 and not see land for nearly two weeks (12 days), as it sails to Brazil, arriving on Day 27. Luckily it's a fabulous vessel. In September 2022, the ship sails from Tromsø, Norway in the Arctic Circle through to Whalers Bay, at the opposite end of the earth on the Antarctic Peninsula. If you have a trip booked and the travel agent, cruise line, tour operator or other supplier offers to postpone rather than cancel PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE accept the postponement. In this way you will save on cancellation costs but, most importantly, you will be making a genuine contribution to keeping the travel industry alive. You are not stripping supermarket shelves so this is yet another way that you can make a genuine contribution to a post-virus recovery. Feel free to SHARE.
