03.01.2022 ASL? Think twice.... This weekend I agreed to install a ASL automedia reverse camera upgrade kit for a Mark Two FG Falcon. I'd done one a couple of years ago no problems. This time was different. After installing the camera to the back of the car I started with installation of the tft screen patch cable following the supplied instructions.... I never got past the first step, after unplugging the tft screen to insert the patch cable in between the car and screen, turning the key on to acc and waiting the prescribed time for the screen to boot I knew something was wrong. I called the client to let him know things weren't going to plan. The tft screen was dead, it showed vertical parallel lines on start up then black. I hadn't supplied the kit and I went to the ASL automedia website to see what could be done. I read a disclaimer: http://www.aslautomedia.com.au/terms_of_use This website contains material which is owned by or licensed to us. This material includes, but is not limited to, the design, layout, look, appearance and graphics. Reproduction is prohibited other than in accordance with the copyright notice, which forms part of these terms and conditions. Now I'm not a lawyer but I know my rights and what is written here conflicts with what ASL are supposed to comply with by Australian Consumer Law: http://www.commerce.wa.gov.au//your-consumer-rights-under- I asked myself who's in the wrong here and what is the legal implications of the scenario? ASL automedia are dirty dogs! They agreed on a refund on the faulty kit but won't repair or replace the now damaged tft screen as per their requirements to Australian Consumer Law. They are happy to send defective products that destroy parts of your car costing thousands of dollars of damage then offer to repair them for thousands of dollars. Seems like a good money maker. Does anyone else see a problem with this? Should they be held liable and prosecuted to the full extent of the law? I'd advise anyone thinking about using any of their products to think twice. These crooks aren't above the law and their terms of service are illegal. https://www.accc.gov.au//business-rights-p/fines-penalties See more
