25.01.2022 Overnewton is excited to announce that we will be celebrating National NAIDOC Week November 8th 15th. Alongside various other activities planned, we will be celebrating our strong connection to our sister school, Shepherdson’s College Galiwink’u, by making a collection of goods that the Yolgnu community need. These items will be distributed at the local op shop. Below are items that are much needed by the Galiwin'ku community: - Bedding (Sheets/towels/face washers/tea tow...els) - Thongs/sandals - Light clothing for the tropics (dresses, skirts, shorts, t-shirts etc) - Clips/accessories/brushes/toiletries - Children's clothing - Pots/pans/trays (kitchen supplies) - AFL gear :-) We have found that the following items don't sell (mostly due to cultural protocols for women): - women's pants - underwire bras - women's bathers Drop off at both campuses will be available during NAIDOC Week. More info about where to take your donations will be shared early next week. Thank you for your support! Artist featured on video: Warumpi Band - My Island Home (1987). Various indigenous art works featured throughout video were accessed via https://www.naidoc.org.au

24.01.2022 With National Science Week 2020 now behind us, were proud to share some innovative projects submitted to the much-anticipated annual Science Talent Search. Going ahead in a digital format this year, our combined Middle School students independently carried out the research required to produce high quality entries that addressed this years theme, Deep Blue: innovation for the future of our oceans. This was not an easy task whilst Learning from Home and required a lot of self-motivation. In this short video we are seeing a glimpse of their talents and we wish them the very best as they await the judging results.

24.01.2022 We are delighted to share another musical treat with you today. As part of their online Performing Arts lessons this term, our adorable Year 3 students have shown their talents in a recording of the song We Choose Kindness. Composed by Carolyn Hernandez, College Head of Performing Arts, and mixed & engineered by Old Collegian Daniel Hernandez, this inspirational song is about showing kindness regardless of the circumstances - words particularly appropriate to our present situation! We are sure this video will bring a smile to your face on this chilly Friday afternoon. Enjoy

24.01.2022 As I watch students leave our Keilor campus on this last day of school for 2020, I reflect on a year that has been challenging on many levels. I wish to commend our students, staff, and families for their extraordinary efforts during our Learning from Home period. I congratulate our students in particular, who have risen to the challenges of this year and have discovered inner strengths and abilities that they may not have thought they ever possessed. In keeping with this th...eme, I am delighted to share with you a beautiful video of our talented Year 11 Dance students who demonstrate equal parts musicality and athleticism as they perform a contemporary dance to the inspirational song, 'Rise Up' by Andra Day. Wishing you all a happy and holy Christmas. Jim Laussen Principal

23.01.2022 Overnewton staff dig deep and donate an additional $4,500 to Chibobo, making the total amount of donations more than $13,000 from our wonderful Overnewton community. You may remember at the close of Term 2 we announced an astounding $8,500 was raised on Casual Clothes Day for our friends in Chibobo, Zambia. This was achieved through the initiative of our Year 12 Class OLA students and the generosity and care of our College community - thank you! Schools in Zambia are not perm...itted to operate unless face masks and hand sanitiser are made available for all staff and students. For a community like Chibobo, with little to no income, this is a huge undertaking. Due to the commitment and generosity of the 14 years long partnership between Overnewton and St Marys Anglican Church Sunbury, the HMP Chibobo Childrens Centre has been able to purchase these items, including material for the local community sewing group (affectionately named The Koala Club) to make their own masks. In addition, many Overnewton staff were interested in making further donations at this time through morning tea monies, and generously gave another whopping $4,500! Also, an initiative by staff member and St Marys member, Mike Lampard to make and sell face masks to our community is in operation with all proceeds going to Chibobo. Together St Marys and Overnewton have already sewn and sold over 150 masks and are working hard to produce more. If you have any cotton material and/or elastic to donate, or can sew a few masks to help this great initiative, please contact our Reception for more information. Please enjoy these photos, knowing that it is through your generosity that these children can continue their education. Thank you and God Bless Amanda Clifford (Chibobo, St Marys Liaison)

In the Intermediate Division (Year 9/10) Estelles mix of seriousness and humour allowed the audience to see that there are some positives to ou...r current situation, and won her third place. In the Senior Division (Year 11/12) Isabella challenged the audience to understand the impact of toxic masculinity in many of our world leaders, juxtaposing this with the calm and empathetic leadership of the few female leaders we have. 21.01.2022 Synergy is a key pillar of Overnewtons House program, where students learn and engage with community service projects. As part of the Senior ACS Synergy project, Year 10 student Jade H has created colourful and lively scrubs for nurses working on the front line of the Coronavirus pandemic. As part of Jades gesture, she wrote a letter where she said, The dedication and timeless effort you put into helping others is inspirational and very generous. As you enjoy this Christmas Carol, performed by Chloe who is in Year 3, may you be warmed and encouraged by the innocence of children, the memories of childhood, and our sacred and... savoured traditions passed from generation to generation. God’s richest blessings be upon you, and all those whom you love and serve. Reverend Helen

14.01.2022 Happy Wear it Purple Day 2020! Wear It Purple Day is about showing LGBTIQA+ young people that they have a right to be proud of who they are. It is also about creating safe spaces in our schools to show LGBTIQA+ young people that they are seen and supported. In Australian studies, 75% of LGBTIQA+ young people were bullied because of their identity, and 80% of this harassment occurred in schools. Due to this level of discrimination, LGBTIQA+ young people are 12 times mo...re likely to experience depression and up to 5 times more likely to experience anxiety. Overnewton students and staff are encouraged to wear a splash of purple at home today and take a selfie to show their participation in this important initiative. We look forward to sharing these great photos with you next week.

02.01.2022 Please enjoy this beautiful rendition of Mary did you know performed by one of our very talented students - Kiah. Mary dealt with an unexpected announcement from an angel nine months before the first Christmas, we too have dealt with an unexpected reality over the last nine months. God was with Mary during her time. Our Lord Jesus never left us abandoned or alone. ... Mary could never have foreseen the blessing her faith and obedience would bring on her and those around her. We cannot foresee the blessings that will emerge as a result of the lessons learnt in faith and obedience during our experience this year. Please open your hearts, minds and souls for God’s blessing this Christmas knowing with confidence that God’s work through us is not finished. May God give you... For every storm, a rainbow, For every tear, a smile, For every care, a promise, And a blessing in each trial. For every problem life sends, A faithful friend to share, For every sigh, a sweet song, And an answer for each prayer. May the blessing of light be on you light without and light within. May the blessed sunlight shine on you and warm your heart till it glows like a great fire. And the blessing of God almighty be with us and remain with us always. AMEN. Reverend Rob
