15.01.2022 We had a cute little visitor today. The kids loved her.

15.01.2022 It was fantastic to visit the site of the Peel Therapeutic Womens Refuge today with the Minister for Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence, Hon Simone McG...urk MLA. The McGowan Government has invested a total of $10.5 million into the Refuge and it will serve as a huge support for local women and children who may be in crisis situations. I am also particularly pleased that the tender to operate the service has been won by a local partnership, OVIS Community Services and Allambee Counselling. This was a major Election Commitment I made before the 2017 State Election and I am proud that it has been delivered.

14.01.2022 West Australian Music (WAM) and Minderoo Foundation have teamed up to deliver 60 micro-gigs to people in need across Western Australia. The micro-gigs are private performances, where local musicians play short sets to audiences in line with current COVID-19 guidelines. The performances are taking place at venues including womens refuges, Indigenous health centres, hospitals, shelters, and community centres across WA, to boost the spirits of those doing it tough during the ...health crisis. The gigs also provide vital paid work for local musicians whose income streams have been severely affected by COVID-19 restrictions. We here at OVIS were lucky enough to be a recepient and got the chance to view a private concert by Joan and the Giants. Everyone really enjoyed the experience and feedback was we should do this more often. Big thank you for all involved and allowing us this wonderful experience. If you havent heard of the band, please check them out you wont regret it.

07.01.2022 Exciting news! OVIS EXTENDS ITS SAFE HAVEN FOR WOMEN AND CHILDREN OVIS is delighted to announce that we have been appointed by the WA Government as operator of the new Peel Refuge, which will provide accommodation and therapeutic services for women and their children, impacted by family and domestic violence.... An integrated service will be provided for women with co-occurring health issues including harm resulting from alcohol and other drugs and mental health concerns. OVIS is partnering with Peel-based trauma specialist, Allambee Counselling, who will coordinate the therapeutic service. Other local health, wellbeing and cultural support services will be involved in the Peel Refuge as the program is established. OVIS will continue to operate Pat Thomas Refuge and deliver existing intervention, support and education programs.

05.01.2022 Ovis rely heavily on donations from the community at times, and recently required more storage solutions, as our current shelving had suffered damage and general wear and tear over the years. These units are situated in the refuge client bedrooms for storage of their personal items. We are very thankful that Bunnings Warehouse Australia (Halls Head) and Kmart Australia (Mandurah forum) were able to donate to our organisation and take part in helping our workplace and the co...mmunity. The generosity has enabled investment in positive change, making a huge heartfelt difference to the clients and their children at Ovis. Thank you so much for your support.

05.01.2022 A big thank you to the lovely ladies at Banksia Park Retirement Estate for the wonderful donations and morning tea.

05.01.2022 Our organisation is evolving and our name has changed from Pat Thomas House to OVIS Community Services. Our purpose and the value we bring to the community is embodied in our name - Overcoming Violence. Inspiring Safety. We have two Facebook pages this is our community page and is focused on strengthening our connection to the generous givers and volunteers in our community. We will share stories and photos, events, post any special requests for clients, and show appreciation for the incredible support we receive from the people in our community. Thanks for standing together with us against violence and abuse.

05.01.2022 Allambee Counselling and OVIS Community Services welcome the community to march with us to honour all those who have lost their lives to family and domestic violence and to call for prevention, protection and support for those who survive. The event will commence with a community gathering at Mewburn Gardens with a selection of guest speakers before a silent procession to Mandurah Performing Arts Centre to conclude the event. We hope to see you there!

Every year, the Peel region sees over 1000 people seek family violence services. OVIS is here to provide options to people fleeing abuse, support survivors on the next phase of their journey and engage the broader community in compassionate conversations around safety.... Mission: To empower people to have a future free from violence and abuse. Vision: All people feel safe from family and domestic violence and abuse.

03.01.2022 I can’t think of a better way to spend day two of our 16 Days in WA campaign than opening the McGowan Government’s new state-of-the-art women’s refuge in Peel. ... The opening of ‘Warlang Bidi’ (which means ‘healthy path’ in Noongar language) marks the delivery of an important commitment that we took to the 2017 election, and significantly increases capacity in the region to support women and children escaping family and domestic violence. It is also WA’s first therapeutic refuge, setting a new standard for refuges that enable women to live free from violence and have a place to call home. This means that, as well as accommodation, it will provide tailored specialist services to address any co-occurring needs that women may have, such as mental health concerns or harm from alcohol and other drugs. By holistically managing each person’s needs, and helping to build their capacity and resilience, the therapeutic model will help them to get their lives back on track after experiencing violence. The refuge will be delivered by experienced service provider OVIS Community Services in partnership with Allambee Counselling. I’m very proud to be opening WA’s first therapeutic refuge on time and during 16 Days in WA, which is also key to our efforts to address high rates of family and domestic violence in the community. #16DaysinWA #RespectStartsWithYou #StoptheViolence

03.01.2022 Would like to say a special Thank you to Stella from Stella's Catering and Events for putting on this amazing spread for the Grand Opening of Warlang Bidi yesterday. Your wonderful Customer Service and Delicious Food made our event special! Thanks again!

03.01.2022 Do we have anyone that can sew. We are needing some small bags for staff to use when they are working around the building please. Just big enough to fit mobile phone, iPad, small notebook and pen. So no larger than an iPad size and over the shoulder. Similar to this design. If you are able to help please PM us. Thank you.

03.01.2022 This is Naomi from OMGG (Oh My Glittery Gosh) who had lots of tanning solution left after COVID hit. So instead of wasting the product she offered spray tans for non perishable items. What a lovely gesture and we are thankful for community support. Thanks again Naomi http://www.ohmyglitterygosh.com.au

02.01.2022 Due to Alcoas generous grant The Kids Against Violence Program will be able to facilitate more sessions within the refuge and provide children with the education and skills they need to continue building emotional intelligence and implementing strategies for finding safe ways to manage their emotions. Without the generosity of Alcoa, the importance of early intervention programs such as KAV would not be available for those who greatly need it. A big Thank you to Alcoa for their continuous support, we greatly appreciate it.

02.01.2022 When it opens its doors later this year, the Peel refuge will be Western Australias first therapeutic womens refuge. It was great to view the fantastic prog...ress on the refuge and meet the newly appointed service provider on site with David Templeman MLA today. The refuge will use an innovative therapeutic model to provide coordinated and tailored services for victims of family and domestic violence who may have mental health concerns and/or harm from alcohol and other drugs. OVIS Community Services (formerly known as Pat Thomas House), which has been awarded the contract to operate the refuge, has a strong track record in delivering services for women and children. This impressive new refuge will provide vital specialist services to Western Australians escaping violence, so I look forward to it starting operations in the coming months.
