24.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW 45,000 hives have required drought assistance over the last few months. : Knobel Honey

23.01.2022 Hi Everyone. Just letting you know that we are not at the Broadbeach markets today however the shops we sell to are all stocked with honey. Hopefully we will have enough honey to do the markets soon however it is a late start to the honey flow ( too dry) so I will keep you updated. Thank you. Sue

23.01.2022 Wow finally the start of a honey flow for the bees! I hope you get lots of nectar and pollen from this and all the other trees bursting into flower after our recent rain. ( 2 inches but it's a start!)

22.01.2022 Interesting read....

22.01.2022 The drought has effected bee keepers throughout Australia. Due to lack of production I have decided to no longer have a stall at the Art and Craft markets at Broadbeach and Coolongatta. Thank you to all our loyal customers over the many years that we have been attending the markets. Please remember we still sell our lovely honey at a selection of shops on the Gold Coast. These include: Mac Nab Brothers Butcher shops at Oxenford, Southport, Coomera Grand and Pimpama.... The Treat Shop, Mt Tambourine. Amcal Chemist, Hope Is Marketplace. Prime Valley Organic Meats, Robina PP Meats, Nerang. Bulk honey orders with a 10 kg minimum are also available. When the conditions improve we will also be selling bees for those of you who want their own hive! My mobile number is 0401740747. Thank you, Sue

18.01.2022 Interesting to watch though thankfully we dont have any varooa mite in Australia. Female (worker bees) and male bees (drones) are different sizes so take a differeng number of days to hatch.

18.01.2022 Hi everyone, Due to the extremely dry Spring we are having our bees are still producing very little honey. While we are trying to keep honey in the shops we stock, it will still be some time before we can get back to the markets. Thank you for your understanding. Bring on the rain! ... See more

15.01.2022 Great news for people allergic to bee stings!

15.01.2022 Come out to support all the runners and browse the markets while waiting for your friends to jog past. I hope everyone running achieves their goal. Good luck!

12.01.2022 Hi Everyone, Just letting you know we are not at the market at Broadbeach this morning as we have sold out of honey. We are extracting this week so will be back for the market on the 3 August. Due to lack of parking and low sales we have decided to stop attending the Burleigh Heads market. We will however still be at Broadbeach and Coolongatta. Thank you. Sue

12.01.2022 While the bees have started to collect more pollen and nectar it will be early September before we extract any honey. Thank you for your patience but we must leave the honey for the bees until there is a big enough surplus of stored honey.

11.01.2022 This is the plight facing many commercial beekeepers this season in Australia. This is why the price of honey needs to increase though this only helps if you have honey to sell!

10.01.2022 Another bushfire tore through a site of ours. We lost 5 hives and the the bush land around where the bees forage. Not only do these bushfires affect us in the p...resent, but the years to come are going to be difficult with little/no flowering for another 3 to 4 years, meaning no nectar or pollen for the bees to collect to maintain healthy hives. These are difficult times, we are praying for everyone in the areas affected by bushfires safety. Please keep safe and prepared. We thank the bravery of the emergency services Edit- A lot of people have been asking us how they can support, right now we are still operational, our honey is still for sale and our (online) doors are open so the greatest support that we can receive is for you to let people know about our products, like our Facebook or Instagram page and spread the word to support sustainable farmers by purchasing direct from the source. You can purchase our Manuka honey at www.activejellybush.com #nswbushfires #savethebees #nswrfs

09.01.2022 Always check the labels to make sure you are buying 100% Australian honey, as some honey sold in Australia is a blend of imported and local honey. I can gurantee our honey is 100% fresh local honey.

09.01.2022 Bees build this comb in the lids during summer quite often if on a honeyflow and are short of space.

07.01.2022 Liquid gold.....

07.01.2022 I obviously don't get stung enough!

04.01.2022 Lets hope these hives get found or the bees decide to attack the thieves when they open them up. Karma guys!!!!

04.01.2022 With your help this post has reached over 30,000 people! Please continue to share The beekeeping industry is often a forgotten industry in times of droug...ht. Bees along with every other living creature need access to water. Spring usually sees Beekeepers across Queensland migrating their hives to areas with an abundance of nectar, pollen and water which in turn maintains the health of the hives and will sometimes provide an excess honey flow that can then be extracted and sold on to major honey packers. Sadly the current drought has had a significant impact on our industry. Native forests often considered to be great resource to bee colonies because of their floral diversity and abundance of natural water source are not an option for many beekeepers. Due to the prolonged period of dry a large number of eucalyptus species simply aren’t flowering like they usually would at this time of year and because of this honey production has significantly decreased. Ultimately, this season many beekeepers will produce little to no honey as the bulk of the honey produced by the bees needs to remain with the hive to ensure the colony has access to food when needed Many commercial beekeepers across the state have been forced to travel thousands of kilometres to find forage and water for their colonies. More than 76,000 of the 108,000 hives in Queensland are commercially managed and many of our larger beekeepers are going to great lengths to ensure their bee colonies survive the current dry spell we find ourselves in. Queensland bees not only produce some of the worlds best honey, they also largely contribute to the supply of healthy food grown in Queensland. The best way you can support our Beekeepers during the drought is to continue to buy Australian honey, you simply need to check the country of origin label for 100% Aussie honey. So when you’re next at the supermarket pick up some delicious honey! Earlier today the QBA was contacted by 9 News Queensland for a story on the drought and its tightening grip on our industry. We’ll do our best to share it with you once it has gone to air. #supportaustralianbeekeepers #australianhoney #queenslandbeekeepersassoc #queenslandbees #honey #bees

01.01.2022 We still have very little honey available as unfortunately the trees have not produced much nectar due to the incredibly dry conditions.
