23.01.2022 Men in rural and remote communities are often busy looking after their farms and their families. This week is Men's Health Week and we're asking Australian men to take some time to look after themselves. Share this if you’d like to remind a bloke that its time for a GP check-up.

22.01.2022 Further to today's media release from the Queensland Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry advising of a new Hendra virus case in Beenleigh, we woul...d like to remind you that Hendra virus is a serious issue for all owners/carers of animals belonging to the equidae family, not only horses. Indeed, in a document produced by the Hendra Virus Interagency Technical Working Group (comprising Biosecurity Queensland, Australian Veterinary Association, Queensland Health and Workplace Health & Safety Queensland) titled Hendra Virus Infection Prevention Advice, March 2011 the definition of ‘Horse’ is all members of family equidae, including horses, mules, donkeys, zebras. Although not always specifically stated in industry communiqués, all precautions, recommendations and risk management strategies, including vaccination, apply to all members of this family. The Queensland Horse Council urges all owners/carers of horses, mules, donkeys and zebras to discuss vaccination with their veterinarians and take appropriate steps to reduce their risks.

21.01.2022 Farm Security Tips Crime is no longer an urban problem, there is a constant theft of tools and equipment from farms, such as chain saws, grinders, whipper snippers, air compressors, saddles, bridles, fencing material etc. Items that are light and easy to carry and can be sold quickly are targeted. We can discourage and minimise the theft of property from farms by providing a way for police to easily identify stolen property. Proof of ownership is essential in any court to sec...ure a conviction. Use metal engravers or stamps to mark tools, vehicles, machinery and equipment. A useful identification is to mark your equipment with your drivers licence number. Maintain an inventory of all plant, tools and equipment, record their serial numbers and a description of the item including any distinguishing markings known to only you. It is a good idea to take a photo of your equipment for quick easy identification, and have some identifiable aspect of your farm in the background. Remember to report all thefts to police, or your local Rural Crime Investigators. Reports of can be made on the Police Assistance Line (PAL) on 131444.
