24.01.2022 Power Words! The last thing you want to do when working on communicating with your dog is to pick a word that is too commonly used--or lacks power. The reason why we've chosen the one's we use?... Clear, Sharp, Proven, and Hard to Mistake! Here are 7 of the critical words we use most during training: CHIP: Completed the right behaviour Stopped doing it directly Come and get the reward SUPER/BRAVO: Doing the right behaviour Keep doing it Give the reward FREE: Neutral reward. GET IT: Indirect reward. UH, UH! Nearly right, try again. NO! What words do you use for your commands (and why)? If you'd like to learn how to effectively train these commands (and make it fun for your dog) . . Then click on this link to apply and book in your 45-minute FAST-TRACK ASSESSMENT SESSION: https://www.ozcorpk9.com.au/ozdogobedience PS. This lesson is taught in the 5th lesson of the 7 in our Ozdog Obedience Program!

16.01.2022 A 2-Year-Old Impression, Turned into a Friendship 2 years ago, I was participating in Tactical Security Australia’s K9 Handling Course. At the time, I wasn’t running the course at my facility quite YET . .... As it was Bob Yeo’s second last class before It was to be passed onto myself. (which has been such a great experience!) Pregnant Drax was just a little puppy back then! During that course, I had the pleasure of meeting a 19-year-old who asked so many bloody questions that he even felt the need to apologise! Our paths crossed again recently when I got a message asking for advice. I instantly recalled that 19 years kid that I met two years ago that was now breaking further into the industry, driven for informationand all I could see was POTENTIAL! The funny part is that James Towers STILL wears the shirt I gave him on that daytwo years ago! And it goes to show that with enough ambition, time will present you with the opportunities you need. You’ve just gotta be willing to asking questions like James never stopped doing! Great to have you as part of the team my friend. Bring your dog into their favourite school to have them trained by James. He’s been so committed to implementing what he learnsand continues to ask all the RIGHT question. He has demonstrated an exceptional level of work ethic which will take him far within this industry!

14.01.2022 Drax befor she became a stay at home mum!

14.01.2022 Using Your LEASH as a Tool! Your leash is like a telephone line. Constantly sending signals to communicate with your dog. ... Here’s a quick video demonstrating the communication you can have with your dog without even having to give a verbal command And before you even have the thought! The pressure you can see me apply in this video really isn’t pressure at all It in no way harms the dog, but simply gives the dog a signal to activate the command I’ve instructed through the lead Note: Big thanks to Gemma the Rotti for being such a great example! We use the leash as a tool for 2 main reasons: 1. LEASH COMMANDS These techniques have a lot to do with direct communication through the lead and to your dog, to achieve a specific command. Eg. Pressure down on leash = Laydown 2. LOOSE LEAD WALKING These leash techniques re-program your dog to follow your lead, as opposed to you following theirs! Eg. Immediate change in direction = Follow DAILY USAGE There are plenty of benefits you can reap from teaching silent communication . . You can use your imagination to see where this fits into your lifestyle, but here are a few examples The Perfect Tool for Pensioners Voicing your commands can be tough at times. What if you could gently pull up on your lead for your dog to sit? And pull downwards with your foot, to get your dog to lay down? You Love Cafe’s Your dream is to be able to sit at a cafe and have your dog lay down next to you obediently. To do this, you will be able to pull downwards on the lead, and have your dog lay down. You Like to Go for Consistent Walks You take your dog on walks every day. On every walk, you cross a few traffic lights and simply pull lightly upwards. Your dog sits patiently waiting for the green light and walks once you give your queue to do so! I hope you got some value out of this post! If you’d like to learn more about how you can use your lead as a tool, it’s something that I teach in the 3rd lesson of the Ozdog 7-Session Rapid Obedience Program You can apply to train with me directly through the link below. https://bit.ly/3fMsjg4 Remember to type Shaun in the first question where you’re asked where you got this link from! Thanks. See more

03.01.2022 We use our for good reason! ...and that reason is for the safety and uncertainty of ourselves and others. ... It’s our recommendation to give your dog the option of being able to interact with other unfamiliar dogs while they’re on-lead. It’s up to you to be able to: . risky situations as they present themselves, and avoid possible dangers . the way you handle people. As you may already knowit's not always the dogs that you have to worry about . Know how to captivate the of your dog so that their focus is on you, and nothing but you (catch up on our Attention post, if interested https://bit.ly/2LhLk0U) It might start with some sniffing . . Some getting to know each other. But unfortunately in the experiences of manyall it takes is a second for things to go sour And an even shorter period to replace the once happy image of other dogs, with one that isn’t so positive. So, why take the risk? There are better ways to + . Try walking around the perimeter of a dog park, instead of being in itso that you can train with a safety barrier between you? Ever tried separating dogs fighting while their leads are tangled? Trust me, you don't want to! It’s like trying to untangle a set of earphones during an earthquake Avoid trauma by using a lead. Avoid uncertainty by knowing how to handle one. Share this post if you agree and would like to spread awareness! See more
