03.01.2022 OZIGRIP Tech Tuesday! What personal protective equipment (PPE) do we use? You might have seen us in photos or videos wearing filtered masks, and safety glasses. We do this to protect ourselves against a few things. First off I want to mention that although we wear these, like all personal protective equipment, it is our last line of defence. We have other protective measures in place to limit exposure and protect ourselves. ... Chemical fumes: Our polyurethane consists of 2 chemical compounds, isocyanate and polyol. Isocyanate in its liquid form is toxic and can irritate the lungs and eyes. Fume cabinets are in place to remove fumes and masks with correct filter cartridges are there for back up to limit exposure to the isocyanate fumes. Dust: Once the polyurethane is cured the hazards of its uncured state are no longer of concern. When it comes to hand finishing our holds we use a sander. We have dust extraction systems in place to remove dust. Masks are again used to filter fine particles that the extraction system may miss. Glasses are also needed to protect the eyes from chips and particles. PPE is a very important part of the workplace and something OZIGRIP takes seriously.
