23.01.2022 Summer pet safety tip Holidays Whether you are going away and leaving your pet at a boarding kennel or with a house sitter, or taking your pet with you on your holidays, make sure you think about the following:... * are their microchipping details up to date? * are they wearing a collar with your contact details * if they are on medication do you have enough to last the whole holiday period? Do you need to stock up if you are going away for an extended period of time? * if they are on special diet, do you have enough of it to last the holiday period? * remember to never leave your pet locked in an unattended car - heat stroke can happen very quickly.

13.01.2022 The cool things our vets do!! Dr Lauren is currently completing a 6 month course run through Taronga zoo : the Taronga veterinary professional training course in wildlife treatment and care. As well as working as a full time vet, Dr Lauren has been learning additional details about legislation, avian, reptiles and amphibians, mammals, koalas and bushfire medicine. ... Earlier this week she spent the day at Taronga Zoo working through cases, looking at pathology, practicing X-ray techniques (without stressing out any wildlife) and visiting some of the current patients at the zoo!

12.01.2022 How sweet is this little face?! This is Marley, a working Coolie puppy who came into our Coramba Clinic for her vaccination. Super sweet and super smart!

12.01.2022 You do not need to be a Member to call the NRMA on 13 11 11 in this situation and due to the grave danger involved, we drop everything to respond to these calls which are prioritised. Upon arrival, we provide skills and equipment to enter the vehicle or support emergency services. The majority of these emergency calls are made by the vehicle custodian, where permission has been given to access the vehicle. If you are not the vehicle custodian (e.g., passer-by), try the obvio...us solution of checking if any doors are unlocked. If the vehicle is locked and the animal is clearly distressed or you believe its life is in danger, you can call NRMA roadside assistance who will send a patrol officer to make an assessment of the situation. Emergency services will also be contacted if the situation is said to be life-threatening. You can also contact the emergency services immediately (000) who may break the window themselves or liaise directly with the NRMA to assist, depending on the circumstances. While most vehicles can be unlocked by following appropriate lock-out procedures, there will be circumstances when breaking a window will be the most reasonable action. 07.01.2022 Summer pet safety tips Wildlife! Uninjured wildlife are afraid of people- so one of the most important things to remember is that injured wildlife are afraid, in pain and unpredictable. You are at risk of being scratched, bitten or kicked... Using a shirt, towel, blanket to cover an injured wild animals face and body can help reduce stress Wildlife that is easy to capture are most likely in shock: keeping them warm, quiet and in a dark space (eg cardboard box) is important until they can go into WIRES care or be assessed by a vet. Avoid trying to nurse native or other injured wildlife back to health if you aren’t experienced. Experienced WIRES carers are important to ensure the animals receive the right nutrition, habitat, sleep cycle support and medications prescribed by the vet * we are always more than happy to assess any injured or lost wildlife so please don’t hesitate to bring them in.
