25.01.2022 Winter is here and families across Brisbane are now legally able to enjoy fire pits in their yards. 20.01.2022 Clubfoot or congenital talipes equinovarus, is a common paediatric orthopaedic condition. A clubfoot diagnosis for your newborn can be overwhelming at first; however in most cases babies who had clubfoot and received treatment are able to lead active lives as they get older. This #WorldClubfootDay read Dr Fifi Djatmikos article on Clubfoot in newborns to learn about diagnosis and appropriate management for optimal outcomes.... Clubfoot can be detected antenatally or at birth by the paediatrician, however if youre concerned about your childs feet after their first year we recommend you speak with your GP in the first instance. : : : : #worldclubfootday2020 #clubfootawareness #ourpaedicarecommunity #paedicare #paediatricianbrisbane #brisbanepaediatrician #paediatrics #paediatrician #paediatricians #paediatriciannearme #pediatricianbrisbane #brisbanepediatrician #pediatrics #pediatrician #pediatricians #pediatriciannearme

17.01.2022 Many first time privately insured mums havent considered choosing their babys paediatrician and dont know they are usually able to do so Just like making the choice of your obstetrician, there are similarly things you may like to consider if choosing a paediatrician to care for your baby. What are the doctors qualifications? How much experience have they had? ... Do they have a caring and considerate bedside manner? If your baby is unfortunately born with abnormalities or health issues there could be an ongoing relationship between you, your child and the paediatrician who would you feel comfortable and confident with to care for your child for years to come? 15.01.2022 One of the key things paediatricians review before baby leaves hospital and at their six week check is their weight. We are able to determine very quickly if baby is receiving enough sustenance by reviewing their weight, their feeding and toileting. It’s normal for babies to lose weight after they’re born usually a maximum of 7-10% of their birth weight in the first week is considered normal. We do however like to see them reach their birth weight again at around two weeks ...after birth. For new parents who are concerned about their baby’s weight take a moment to read the Australian Breastfeeding Association's information on baby weight losses and weight gains. It has some tips on determining if baby is getting enough milk and what you can do if you think they’re not. #ourpaedicarecommunity #paedicare #paediatricianbrisbane

07.01.2022 As we head toward the end of winter some parents may be planning to start toilet training their little ones. There are bound to be accidents but it doesn't have to be a dreaded task. Check out raisingchildren.net.aus practical guide to toilet training. Some key points to help you plan are: Children might be ready for toilet training if they have dry nappies for up to two hours, know about poos and wees, and can pull pants up and down.... Toilet training equipment includes a potty or small toilet seat and training pants or undies. Try to start toilet training when there are no big changes coming up for your family. Make going to the toilet part of your childs routine. Remind your child to go, and give lots of praise for trying. Toilet training can take days, months or weeks. Be patient and keep encouraging your child. Good luck #ourpaedicarecommunity! #paedicare #paediatrician #paediatricianbrisbane

03.01.2022 Giving birth is undoubtedly one of the most life changing moments a women can experience. All mums have their own individual birthing story; some include wonderful experiences where everything went to plan, and others where plans and expectations were thrown out the window, sometimes leaving mums completely off guard and unable to process the experience. Birth trauma can be physical or psychological, or a combination, and both mother and father/partner or families can be affected. Our friends at Hatch Private Maternity have written an article to highlight birth trauma.
