24.01.2022 Pain Specialists Australia feel we need to clarify this for our audience. A recent study has said that women who receive epidural pain relief in labour seem to have an increased chance of having a child with autism. BUT the study was not designed to prove cause and effect and does not suggest that epidurals cause autism. Just to clarify labour epidurals do not cause autism and we should not be withholding labour epidurals for pain control because of this flawed study. ... "Multiple professional organizations weighed in critically on the work. The study does not provide credible scientific evidence that labor epidurals for pain relief cause autism, say the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology, American Society of Anesthesiologists, Society for Pediatric Anesthesia, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine in a joint statement. This study should not alter the analgesia currently offered to women in labour, says a statement from the Royal College of Anaesthetists. http://ow.ly/1PDs50CjomQ We wish you a super week ahead. #pain

02.01.2022 As experts in the field of pain management, we are observing the effects that covid-19 may have on #chronicpain. We feel that there may be an increased incidence in chronic pain after the covid-19 pandemic for a few reasons: 1) The inflammation caused by covid may make current chronic pain conditions more severe by causing further nerve inflammation. 2)The lockdown has caused people that exercise regularly to drop their physical activity levels and then when they get back t...o exercising after lockdown they are more likely to injure themselves. 3) The lockdown will cause people that don't exercise to consider exercise and hence also injure themselves. http://ow.ly/G4Up50Cjp0d So please look after yourself as you come out of lockdown. #chronicpain #pain
