25.01.2022 Pakenham parkrun is scheduled to return on the 16th January 2021! Before we get there, there will be a few changes - and parkrun has developed a model which will enable us to conduct our event safely. This is detailed here in the parkrun COVID-19 framework - https://volunteer.parkrun.com//open-with-covid-19-manageme... For our local event, we would like to highlight that there will be some short term changes while we are operating in a COVID world. A few of them are - - You must continue to bring a PRINTED barcode to get a result at Pakenham parkrun. Unfortunately, we will no longer be bringing the barcode boxes to the event as sanitisation of these items is impossible. - Contact Tracing Barcodes will be displayed in multiple locations to register your attendance at the event. This will be delivered by the Victorian Government system. You will require your phone to register. - Seeding your start is more important as it will reduce unnecessary contact with others. This means the faster runners go to the front and slower at the back. We will place small cones with indicated times to try to assist people with the seeding. - Our briefings will be much shorter - general briefing to be capped at around 2 minutes maximum with an almost immediate start afterwards. This is to minimise the social interaction. - There will be an increase in the number of barcode scanning volunteer positions - we will be using 1 barcode scanner position for every 50 runners to ensure that queues do not present a social distancing issue. - There will be no key box - you will have to find a place to put your key during the event. - Hand sanitiser will be provided at the event. - We will be unable to recognise milestones at the briefings due to our guidelines, but we will try to find a way to recognise peoples achievements. While all of these changes are not what we are used to - it is a step in the right direction and given time parkrun will return to a more normal state post COVID. We look forward to seeing you soon - it has been a long wait!
25.01.2022 parkrun cancelled due to COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Notice of cancellation We’re writing to let you know that, in line with public health advice, we have taken the decision to close all parkrun events across Australia with immediate effect. Initially, this closure will be in place until the end of March, however this is largely to bring all parkrun countries into the same time frame and we very much expect closures to continue through April at least.... Going forward we will update parkrunners regularly and aim to communicate important information as soon as is appropriate. We know that this message may be a difficult one for you to receive, and many people will be wondering what to do without their regular weekly catch-up. Please rest assured that we are working hard to develop our strategy so that we are able to support the health and happiness of parkrunners around the world during this difficult time. Remaining active is incredibly important, and we are working on ways to encourage and support that, however please do not arrange group gatherings at your parkrun venues whilst parkrun events are suspended. Thanks for your continued support, and please know that the parkrun family is there for you. Kind regards, Tim Oberg Strategic Director, Asia Pacific

11.01.2022 Exciting news! Today we saw council organising the installation area for the new toilets! They will be installed on the short footpath on the way to the trail, next to the parking lot. Contrary to rumour, the electrical box near the start line is only the supply and not the location of the toilets. Council representatives advise installation to be around late November.

08.01.2022 Time to break some radio silence. Today is Pakenham parkruns 6 year anniversary. It was this day 6 years ago that Michelle began an undertaking which formed a vibrant running community here in Pakenham, which met every Saturday, practically without interruption. Right now, we would be finishing the timing and enjoying each others company freely with a cup of coffee, laughing and smiling with friends that are as close as family.... Unfortunately, that is not a reality today - but with any luck, we will be celebrating Pakenham parkrun 7 year anniversary like the previous 5. We sincerely look forward to resuming Pakenham parkrun as soon as we are authorised to do so. Thank you; hope to see you soon and have a great weekend!
