24.01.2022 WHY do people obsess with the idea of weight loss WHY do the same people go on diet after diet, and not see results People obsess about weight loss because it represents:... - More energy - Mental clarity - A fully-functioning, healthy body - An active lifestyle and generic one-size-fits-all diets fail because they: Fail to consider your bio-individuality Are unsustainable in the long run Deprive our bodies of key nutrients the same nutrients that we need to thrive everyday If more energy, clarity, and a healthy body is what we’re ultimately after, shouldn’t we reset our thinking and ask ourselves: - Why am I always lethargic? - How do I get more energy? - How do I get rid of my brain fog, and get more mental clarity? What if instead of focussing on a ‘kg’ number which has little relevance to how we feel we focus on: - Scrutinising everything we put in our body - Understanding the signals our body is giving us through inflammation, bloating, aches, brain fog, allergies, etc. - Understanding our bio-individuality what’s healthy for me may have an adverse effect on your wellbeing. This is where a conversation with a Nutritional Therapist can help. Nutritional Therapy is the process of determining any underlying nutrient deficiencies within our body that may be manifesting in the form of symptoms or diseases and treating those deficiencies with a wholefood, nutrient-dense diet and/or supplements. Nutritional Therapy harnesses the power of real food along with recommended lifestyle changes to balance body chemistry and achieve optimal wellness by addressing: - Gastrointestinal symptoms - Bloating, Burping, Gas - Neurological symptoms - Anxiety, Brain fog, Depression, Fatigue, Headaches - Skin symptoms - Acne, Dry Skin, Eczema - Other symptoms - Autoimmune disease, Food sensitivities Click the link below to find out more about Nutritional Therapy and how it can help transform your lifestyle www.pantryaffairs.com.au

20.01.2022 Food Intolerance - Here's PROOF that good, wholesome foods that may be healthy for your gut may not be healthy for mine. I consider myself to maintain a healthy diet (whole foods, nuts, fruits, the lot!), but given recent bloating and irritation, I decided to have a food intolerance blood test needless to say I was pretty shocked at the results Severe intolerance to Broccoli seriously?? Cumin and Ginger, Lemon? Some of these were staples in my daily meals! Also mode...rate to mild intolerance to Moral - *Bio-individuality* matters! Understanding your food intolerance matters! 20.01.2022 SNACKS! If you’re having challenges with blood sugar regulation (chronic stress, adrenal fatigue, metabolic syndrome, etc.) or if you simply didn’t have time for lunch because of back-to-back Zoom meetings, you’ll likely find yourself heading to the pantry for a snack. If you do, try and make it something that nourishes your body. I really enjoy coconut flakes. This brand in particular is *just* coconut and sea salt ... 15.01.2022 5 items I NO LONGER stock in my pantry Following on from my post on 'Five food items you'll always find in my pantry' (see post below on 24-Jun), I thought a good follow-up would be to share a list of items that have long been ELIMINATED from my pantry Canola / Vegetable / Sunflower Oil / ANY Refined Oils the problem with refined oils is that during the process of ‘refining’, some of the health-promoting properties such as Vitamin E are REMOVED from it. Furthe...rmore, the process exposes to extremely high-temperatures, stripping the oil of most of its protection against damage (and includes synthetic antioxidants) . Margarine is an unnaturally ‘manufactured’ form of fatty acid. Not only does it interfere with our body’s ability to absorb essential fatty acids, its harmful to cell membrane function but hey, its spreads easy (so what?!?) Soft-drinks of all kinds they contain ADDED colour, ADDED flavour, ADDED stimulants and ADDED sugar. They’re addictive, have zero nutritional value, and are harm our gut every time we choose to consume it. Refined sugar granted that the impact of consumption of excessive refined sugar on your waist will become visible over time, but what most people don’t know are its links to heart diseases, diabetes and other forms of chronic sickness. The fact that sugar is addictive makes it all the more difficult to give up, but quitting (or even reducing) sugar can improve your health rapidly. Pre-prepared sauces and stocks not only are they high in synthetic additives (to enhance colour, flavour and shelf life), it is almost impossible to trace their underlying ingredients to ethical sources. I find the process of making my own sauces, stocks and broths much more fulfilling, not to say healthier on the gut . Start with completely eliminating one at least of these ingredients from your pantry. And over time, gradually replace them with one of the ingredients mentioned in the post below (24-Jun). It’s not an overnight transition, but it is an important one For more on the importance of a nutrient-dense diet full of whole foods, have a look at www.pantryaffairs.com.au #healthychoices #holisticnutrition #nutrition #nutritiontips #healthyeating #healthylifestyle #nta #ntp #nutritionaltherapy #nutritioncoach #nutritionist #healthyfood #healthy #healthyliving Photo credit: Mat Brown

14.01.2022 I LOVE these! Eating delicious snacks doesn't have to be unhealthy. Case in point: HEMP BITES! These packets of goodness will be the perfect answer to those mid-afternoon snack cravings when you want find yourself circling around the pantry for a nibble every few mins. ... A recipe from Magdalena Wszelaki (Thank you! ), I made these earlier in the week and will definitely be making these again very soon. INGREDIENTS: Chopped Nuts - 2 cups (I went with Walnuts, but feel free to get creative) Tahini - 3/4 cup (Tahini - or sesame paste - is fast becoming a staple in my pantry) Hemp Seeds - 1/2 cup Raw Honey - 1/2 cup Sesame Seeds - 1/4 to 1/3 cup Ground Cinnamon - 2 tbsp Vanilla extract - 1-2 tsp Sea Salt - Pinch STEPS 1. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl - don't be afraid to get your hands dirty! 2. Roll them into bite-size balls - After a few nibbles of the mixture (taste-testing, of course!) I ended up with 8 3. Chill in the freezer on a flat plate lined with baking paper for an hour before digging in... 4. Enjoy! BENEFITS: - Super easy to make! - Walnuts are jam-packed with healthy fats such as Omega-3 - Cinnamon stabilises blood sugar - meaning you won't go through spikes and drops in energy levels after consuming eating these - NO CANE SUGAR - Just Raw Honey - They last upto 3 weeks in an air tight container in the fridge Have a go, and let me know how they turn out! 10.01.2022 Today I’m sharing some things that you’ll always find in my pantry . The items I list below are healthy , and super-versatile, which means they come in handy in many recipes. Top 5 items you’ll always find in my pantry: 1. Ghee (Clarified Butter) Unlike refined and processed cooking oils, Ghee can be heated to a higher temperature without burning. It’s been part of our ancestral diet for thousands of years, and I’m not about to change that. ... 2. Almond Flour In its purest form, Almond flour is blitzed almonds (that’s it!). I’ve gradually replaced regular flour in my pantry with Almond Flour It’s a great #glutenfree alternative to plain flour I regularly use it for deeeelicious chewie cookies (see recipe below), banana breads and pancakes (weekend favourite for the kids!). 3. Dairy-Free Milk (e.g. Almond Milk, Coconut Milk, Macadamia Milk) I didn’t realise the impact milk was having on my #guthealth until I transitioned to Dairy-Free milk. Admittedly, this transition took the longest, but the health benefits have been obvious. 4. Raw Cocoa Powder because I have a sweet tooth . Also raw cocoa is super-rich in so may minerals, including magnesium, zinc, iron, copper, potassium and chromium - I’ve used this in homemade chocolates Recipes coming soon!! 5. Nuts Nuts are so versatile! Great snack to munch on, they sit just as well in a cereal bowl as they do roasted in a warm winter dessert Have it salted or roasted or just plain. So there it is..... Which of these are in your pantry? Or, which of these would you like to add to your pantry if you haven’t already? I'd love to know Until next time...... www.pantryaffairs.com.au #healthychoices #holisticnutrition #nutrition #nutritiontips #healthyeating #healthylifestyle #nta #ntp #nutritionaltherapy #nutritioncoach #nutritionist #healthyrecipes #healthyfood #healthy #healthyliving

08.01.2022 ***For my Vegan / Vegetarian friends*** Good things are happening in the world of Nutritional Therapy and one of those is the book from Luke Hines - Eat More Vegan. Needless to say, my first attempt at his home-made chocolate (photo below) was a success !... If you’re Vegan or Vegetarian, you’ll love this! And a great alternative for kids over supermarket-branded chocolates. Here are the ingredients: - Cacao Butter 1 cup - Coconut Oil cup - Smooth Peanut Butter cup - Cacao Powder 2 cups - Vanilla Bean paste 1 tsp - Maple Syrup 1 cup ...and the recipe: 1. Gently stir together the Cacao Butter and Coconut Oil over medium-heat until melted 2. Add the Peanut Butter keep stirring until nut butter is completely incorporated should be another for 3-4 mins 3. Remove from heat, and whist in the Cacao Powder, Vanilla and Maple Syrup keep whisking until the mixture is well combined 4. If you want, you can adjust for thickness (add tiny bit more cacao powder), smoothness (add more oil), or sweetness (add more syrup) to get your desired taste and texture 5. Pour into a baking tray / brownie tin / muffin tin lined with baking paper and transfer to the freezer until firm And voila the chocolate was an instant hit in our house (I’ll admit I had more than the kids!) and a thousand times better than supermarket chocolates! Have a try and let me know how you go Huge shout-out again to Luke Hines for some amazing recipes! www.pantryaffairs.com.au #healthychoices #holisticnutrition #nutrition #nutritiontips #healthyeating #healthylifestyle #nta #ntp #nutritionaltherapy #nutritioncoach #nutritionist #healthyrecipes #healthyfood #healthy #healthyliving #vegan #veganchocolate #veganrecipes #vegandesserts #vegetarian #vegetarianchocolate #vegetariandessert

07.01.2022 As of this very moment, right now, I have this food item in my pantry or my fridge in the form of flour, flakes, cream, sugar, oil, sauce, milk and water. Not a day goes by when we don’t consume coconut in one form of another in our household. Hands down, it is one of the healthiest, most versatile ingredients in my pantry. ... So here are my 5 favourite uses of the humble Coconut : - First and foremost, Coconut Oil is one of the safest fats to use for cooking at high temperatures (see post below from 10-Feb-20). It’s also just a great source of lauric acid (a saturated fatty acid) that protects us against viruses, parasites and other pathogens in our gut. I use it for baking, sautéing, or even applying on dry skin. The good stuff actually tastes like coconuts and can be found to be in a semi-sold state in cool weather, or creamy coloured oil in hot weather. Avoid hydrogenated oils. - Coconut Water screams of COCO WATTERRR!!! can be heard around our household when our 2-year old returns home from day care. And I’m happy to oblige. Coconut Water is full of electrolytes that are great for hydrating. Avoid the ones that contain additives or artificial flavours. - Coconut Flour is simply made from grinding coconut meat left over making coconut milk. There’s a tonne of recipes out there on delicious #glutenfree baked goodiesusing coconut flour. I typically mix it with almond flour when baking cookies or making pancakes - Coconut Milk is a regular in my morning smoothies (along with Almond Milk), Coconut milk is a great dairy free substitute if you’re trying to get off dairy. Avoid any additives , and (please!) avoid the temptation to buy ‘lite’. - Coconut Aminos is a great #soyfree and #glutenfree alternative to sodium rich soy sauces typically found on supermarket shelves. Use it instead of sodium-rich and additive-rich soy sauce for stir-fries ! I love ingredients that are super versatile, and can be used in drinks, dinners, desserts, just about everything. is one of those rare ingredients. I seriously can’t recommend it enough! So go on, and give them a go Just remember --- (1) be mindful of your food sensitivities, (2) everything in moderation #healthychoices #holisticnutrition #nutrition #nutritiontips #healthyeating #healthylifestyle #nta #ntp #nutritionaltherapy #nutritioncoach #nutritionist #healthyfood #healthy #healthyliving #coconut #coconutoil #coconutmilk #coconutwater www.pantryaffairs.com.au Photo credit: Robert Goldenowl

07.01.2022 Crushing or chopping garlic and letting them sit a few minutes releases antiplatelet enzymes that help prevent coronary artery blockages. But whole garlic clove...s, once they’ve been cooked offer no heart benefit at all. Neither does garlic that’s been microwaved. A similar phenomenon occurs with broccoli. Studies show that chopping it up, then letting it sit for 40 minutes before cooking, releases the cancer-fighting compound sulforaphane, which would otherwise have been destroyed by cooking. Using precut, frozen raw broccoli is just as beneficial. See more

04.01.2022 Ever heard your Grandma claim and the secret to my cake recipe is a hint of #emulsifier , or a Celebrity TV chef say and then I add just a pinch of titanium dioxide ...! Neither have I Today I made a Banana Bread at home. It had a total of 10 ingredients (Bananas , Eggs, Vanilla Extract, Coconut Oil, Almond Flour, Tapioca Flour, Baking Soda, Baking Powder, Cinnamon, Salt).... And THISis a photo of ingredients on a pre-prepared cake from my local supermarket. Which one would you eat ?? The evolution of our gut over hundreds of thousands of years didn’t prepare us to consume the synthetic ingredients so commonly found in pre-packaged food items. Majority of synthetic ingredients have zero nutritional value, and change the bacterial balance in our gut, thereby deteriorating your #guthealth. So the next time you’re out shopping, do your gut a HUGE favour and just take 5 seconds to read the ingredient label. Chances are if you can’t pronounce it, you probably shouldn’t consume it. Most common additives to avoid: Natural Flavours, Emulsifiers, Thickeners www.pantryaffairs.com.au #healthychoices #holisticnutrition #nutrition #nutritiontips #healthyeating #healthylifestyle #nta #ntp #nutritionaltherapy #nutritioncoach #nutritionist #healthyfood #healthy #healthyliving #emulsifiers
