It was originally coined by a London department store founder who wanted to assure customers that they would get good service at his store. This phrase caught on and has stuck around for over 100 years! This concept was simply a marketing angle used in department stores to help reassure customers... A gimmick, nothing more. As well it was developed by someone who owns a business that sells commodities, not hair or beauty services. Most people who own a salon or barbershop... almost never decline to work with a potential customer, even if they are difficult. Think about this... If someone comes to your salon for your services and expert advice, then how could the customer possibly be right? If they were right, they wouldn’t be there in the first place! Take it from someone who has owned 9 shops and only worked with dream clients each and every time. Imagine you have a salon of dream clients who pay you top dollar and what your worth, and then all the sudden just to make an extra buck, you let someone in your salon that complains, questions your work and price just because it’s a Saturday and dammit they want an answer & fixed now. ...and then they come back for more! Now you’ve introduced a toxic client into a non-toxic community, and what happens when you do that? That toxicity spreads, like a virus. Some people simply cannot be pleased... No matter what you do, you cannot make them happy. So now your existing clients that continue to pay what you're worth and appreciate your work, now have to deal with this toxic customer that is simply going to bring their overall experience in the salon down. Take it from me, you will make much more money and create a better business by saying NO to customers that are not a fit, and especially saying no to customers that are entitled and difficult.
