24.01.2022 You know there's big fish around when there's big Croc's around, check out this 4m river monster
23.01.2022 People from Scotland, USA and Australia all have fun with Capt' John
21.01.2022 It has been Super Hot, Wet and Humid, but the fish have been biting! We’ve had plenty of Rain in recent weeks and Trinity Inlet has had a solid, much needed flush of fresh water. While the live bait has been elusive at times, it’s been worthwhile putting in the extra effort to get sardines, mullet and prawns.... The Black Moon is upon us once again with big incoming tides pushing hard in the mornings. Fingermark, Jacks and Barras have been hooked the past couple charters. The pressure points right up close to the mangroves will continue to produce some solid predators during the next few mornings. Then, in a few days time when the tides get smaller we can get back to fishing the deeper runs and wrecks. The goal on every charter, is for you to end up at the Salt House restaurant at the Pier getting your catch prepared for lunch or dinner. It’s not a 100% success rate, but we put in a consistently strong effort on each outing. In the past couple weeks, Queenfish over a metre, Fingermark up to 70 cm and Barras to 80cm have been landed. Cheers, John H
17.01.2022 Canadian connection Jo Out fished her man and was last seen dining on this fine Fingermark! The action has been heating up with the recent warmer temps.
16.01.2022 It seems like the wet season just doesn’t want to end. The wet and windy weather has not slowed us down at all! The charters have been running every day. The live bait has been plentiful and the fishing quite good. Still the occasional Barra on the right tide and some solid Queenies,Gt’s and Fingermark!... The weather looks to stay wet and windy for another week, but we will be running every day. The showers pass quickly and the sun comes out in between. Just check out the monster Jack that Georgia caught last Friday. See more
14.01.2022 The tropical winter conditions have settled in on North Queensland. The wet season passed by with only a fraction of the usual rainfall. Fishing Cairns Inlet successfully has definitely been more challenging, however,as usual the full moon saved the day! The incoming morning tides switched the predators into the feeding mode. We had lots of visitors to the area to compete in the world class downhill mountain bike competition. Michael from the Austrian team produced a big win ...when he landed a solid 70 cm Barramundi on a live mullet at resting spot number 2! After plenty of jumps it was eventually introduced to the BBQ at Trinity Beach. The whole team celebrated solid form on the bike trails and a big win on Trinity Inlet. Congrats Michael! There was plenty of other action with some respectable Queenies,Gt’s,Tarpon and Threadfin Salmon landed. Karen brought her son Jay and daughter Cleo out for a morning outing. Jay came up big and caught a ‘’Bluey’’ Threadfin that fed the family! Helen came out with her Partner Jim to celebrate his 40th. She had the hot rod and landed a medium sized GT that was soon introduced to the chef at the Salthouse Restaurant at The Pier. It does not take a huge a fish to provide a beautiful gourmet meal for two people! The Black moon is a week away and once again the predators will be switching on! Tight Lines John H
14.01.2022 The big tides that accompanied the New Moon did not disappoint. The most productive Barra action was fishing the morning run in. Although the live baits were challenging to find it was worth the extra effort with the cast net. Live prawns and large herring were the preferred baits. Victorians Stacey and Johnno teamed up for a solid 80 that jumped several times before meeting the landing net. Barramundi Bob and his cruise ship pals managed to land three Barras in one session!... Big Queenies and Threadfin salmon made regular appearances also. The full moon is not far away and the tides will soon be building so solid action can be expected. Tight Lines! 13.01.2022 Big Barra in Cairns Inlet We hoped there would be at least one more decent rainfall coming, we have arrived at April and it looks like the wet just did not happen this year. The small tides before the upcoming black moon have been favorable.... We have been able to fish the deep 20 meter channels and there have been consistent catches of Threadfin Salmon, good Fingermark, Tarpon, Queenies and GT’S. And there have also been plenty of reef sharks to keep both the anglers and the guide busy! The definite Highlight of the past week was a massive, approximate 1.2 metre Monster Barramundi. The reason I say approximate is because a large Bull Shark helped himself to the tail end right by the boat as the landing net was on standby! Check the photo and you can see the damage a shark can do to a trophy Barra. We have a video of the Barra being brought in, I will upload it to youtube and link to it with the next fishing report. The black moon is only 5 days away! That means the big incoming morning tides are building and will soon be pushing on to the pressure points! Cairns Trinity Inlet will be firing. The big predators prefer these tides over any other! Tight Lines, John H
11.01.2022 Mid April approaches and it looks like the rainy season is winding down. The inlet has had a solid flush and the fishing has been steadily improving. Cast netting the live bait has been challenging at times, but with extra effort herring, mullet and prawns are on the menu. Queenfish,Gt’s,mature Grunters and Barramundi have been boated last week. The weather and the fishing should keep improving as we get closer to May.
10.01.2022 Plenty of bait...
10.01.2022 Smaller Tides.BIG FISH!! The last week fishing Cairns Inlet started out with heavy rain! One morning we donned the rain gear even before the charter began! It poured the whole session and even the pockets of our rain coats were full of water. Still almost 30 degrees and the fish were biting, everyone was smiling.... Akari outfished her man Laury and after several awesome jumps landed a beauty Queenfish on a live mullet. Tony from Sydney hooked up to a couple of acrobatic Tarpon and since he was flying out on the day he was not concerned that Tarpon are not the best eating. Team Sweden took on Team Australia in a friendly live bait fishing competition a couple days ago. It went neck and neck until HEINRICH and MAX landed a very respectable Queenie that ensured the win for the smiling Swedes!! The Swedish Queenfish was later introduced to the Aussi BBQ! In general the rains gave Trinity Inlet a much needed flush. The live bait was a little hard to find, but putting in the extra effort paid off and made for good fishing. Cheers and Tight Lines John H
07.01.2022 Winter conditions are upon us here in Tropical North Queensland. August is generally the coldest month. Along with the low water temp, some unseasonal rain has also come our way! Quite a few mornings,we have had the rain coats on even!... The good news is that the live bait has been plentiful and with a few throws of the cast net the live tanks are full. The toughest fish to hook this time of year is the elusive Barramundi. However, the other hard fighters and good table fish ,the Queenfish,Giant Trevelly,Fingermark,Mangrove Jack and Threadfin Salmon have been biting. I have had to go to smaller hooks and lighter leaders as the predators are a little more weary this time of year. Rather then the large live baits that work well in the summer, the smaller herring and the occasional fillet bait have been producing solid hook ups. The Salthouse Restaurant at The Pier has been doing a fantastic job cooking up the fresh catches for our customers. The full moon is upon us tomorrow and the big incoming morning tides will surely produce solid action for the next 4 to 5 days. Don’t let the wet conditions discourage you from booking a charter,it is still 25 degrees and the fish are still biting. Hope to fish with you soon. JOHN H Paradise Sportfishing Cairns
07.01.2022 Barra season kicked in and Birthday couple Brett and Michelle landed an awesome 80 cm Barra on the first morning. It fought like a Trojan, but Brett was intent on Barra for Dinner. It was a personal best so congratulations.
06.01.2022 The south easterly trade winds have returned on schedule and the winter conditions are definitely in place. The secret to success is knowing how to adjust the game plan. With the cooler water temperatures the Barramundi hook up rate is sure to drop, so it’s time to target the other hard fighting, quality table fish that are not so temperature sensitive. The next full moon is only 5 days away and although the tides are not nearly as big as in summer, we will still be having go...od catches of Fingermark,Jacks,GT’S and the occasional Barra. It’s time to down size on the hooks and live baits. Each fishing location is carefully chosen for the optimum stage of the tide. When the current slows down you move on to a deeper spot. Having a few live mullet in the bait tank is still important, but most of the action is on small to medium live herring. This time of year the big baits tend to get ignored! The last few charters have produced some good Fingermark that were taken directly to the Salt House Restaurant at the pier where the chef has been working his magic impressing our customers. Local Fisho Gal Jean W surprised us all last weekend when she landed a 74 cm Barra on a very small herring and a #1 hook! This is the time of year when there is more time between quality strikes. A great time still to relax with rod in hand and a cold beer within reach. Cheers, Look forward to fishing with you. JOHN H
06.01.2022 Winter in the tropics but the fish are still biting.
05.01.2022 The increasingly hot temperatures have created a steady improvement in the fishing conditions. Some solid Fingermark,Queenfish and Gt’s have been landed on recent charters. The fishing should continue to improve as we eventually approach the rainy season. The Salthouse restaurant at the Pier continues to do a fabulous job cooking our anglers catch for lunch or dinner.... Cheers John H See more
04.01.2022 Why not take the day off from work and spend a day fishing with John...!!!!
03.01.2022 The consistent northerly winds help heat up the action! The last several days have seen water temperatures consistently rising in Trinity Inlet. The fishing has greatly improved and the Barramundi have become active again. Certainly we won’t see the Barras get really active until some summer rains arrive, but on the right tide, fishing structure they have been biting. Taking the time to chase Mullet with the cast net has become worthwhile again! The Black Moon and the incomin...g morning tides will be starting on this coming Saturday. The wrecks and pressure point corners will be producing predators on live baits. A well presented Mullet is sure to get an Inquiry from a Barra. One of the Recent highlights in Trinty Inlet was junior angler Ruben Sapper landing a respectable 67 cm Barra. It fought like a Trojan and jumped and pulled plenty of drag. Dad was on net duty and check out the smiles.. The wolf herring, Scaly Scads and the odd Tarpon have been a good distraction between strikes from the target predators. The Salt House Restaurant at the Pier have been doing a fantastic job of preparing some of our anglers fresh catches. Check out the photos. Tight Lines JOHN H Paradise Sportfishing Cairns
02.01.2022 The Seasons Are Changing! We are almost into September and sure enough the temperature in Cairns is on the rise. It’s been most noticeable in the mornings,no longer any dew on the seats in the boat!... Sure enough the last few charters have produced some solid hook ups. A 60cm Fingermark and an 80 cm Black Jew have been the standout catches. Queenfish and some mid size GT’s have also been caught. The black moon and the incoming morning tides are just a few days away. Some large live baits fished on the pressure points close to the mangroves should produce some early Barras! Hope to fish with you soon. JOHN H Paradise Sportfishing Cairns
01.01.2022 The high tides of the Black Moon did not disappoint once aga! The live bait was the key factor as usual. It took a few extra throws of the net, but the patience was rewarded. Not as many Barras were hooked as the previous set of big tides, but the Queen Fish and Gt’s were plentiful.... While the fast flowing morning current pushed on to the pressure points,we were anchoring very close to the mangroves. Some casting skill is required to land the live baits as close as possible to the shore. Queenfish are a most acrobatic species and are consistent jumpers, leaping high into the air in their desperate bid to shake the hook. Gt’s never jump, but pull the drag hard and steady to the bitter end. The deep runs in the inlet had consistent action between tides when the current was slow enough. Once again the small reef sharks kept us busy baiting up and re-tying leaders. The full moon is one week away! Fishing Cairns Inlet is by far the best on the three days after the full moon. Once again big incoming morning tides. Cheers and Tight Lines John H
