09.01.2022 Were loving all the curves and edges on Hangar 155. Did you know, despite having housed a RAAF training unit for five years, Parafield did not formally become a RAAF Station until 15th February 1945, and for a time was the base for No. 34 Transport Squadron. The Igloo Hangar, now known as Hangar 155, was completed for the RAAF in April 1945. These developments were to do with Parafields new role in support of the Anglo-Australian Joint Project (later the Long-Range We...apons Establishment) established at Woomera the following year. However, this role was brief and ended when RAAF Base Edinburgh was created near the Salisbury Explosives Factory in 1955. by Simon Casson Photographer

It is representative of the major additions which were made during the military phase. ... After the war, the Parafield workshops remained at work servicing the 32 C-47 Dakota aircraft of the RAAF transport fleet. In 1951 the airframe workshops were expanded and additional facilities were built to service Sabre and Mirage fighters, and also pilotless Jindivik target aircraft used at Woomera. Today, hangar 54 is home to Flight Training Adelaide. The hangar is used to conduct aircraft maintenance, host graduation ceremonies and conduct student lessons. by Simon Casson Photographer #triviatuesday
