25.01.2022 Do you feel like youve tried everything to shape your childs behaviour? When theyre not demonstrating the behaviour we want to see, we sometimes resort to t...hreatening, time outs, bribery, grounding...You name it, weve tried it! But, it often doesnt work. Steph Wicker explains why here: https://parenttv.com//how-to-use-evidence-based-punishmen/

25.01.2022 There are some things that people do on Remembrance Day at 11:00 AM. That is when the World War ended. At a ceremony for Remembrance Day, a tune called "The Las...t Post" is played on a bugle (or sometimes a trumpet). Then there is two minutes of silence. At the end of the silence, the bugle plays a tune called "Reveille". In many countries, many people wear a poppy on Remembrance Day, and for a few days before. The remembrance poppy is an artificial flower to commemorate those who died in war. People bring wreaths made of poppies to Remembrance Day ceremonies. The poppy is a symbol to show they remember the wars, and the soldiers who fought in them. Poppies were chosen as a symbol because they often grew in battlefields after the soldiers stopped fighting.

25.01.2022 Happy Educators Day 2020 Explore & Develop North Ryde educators are committed to providing quality education and care to all children, families and the communi...ty embodying our centre vision to Innovate, Celebrate and Educate whilst leading with heart. This year has certainly been a challenging one and through it all our dedicated educators have adapted to the many changes that have occurred as a result. From ramping up our already exceeding hygiene practices within the service to creating and implementing a Learning from Home program for our families and children who were working from home, to welcoming and resettling our children when they returned to the service. What better way to show our appreciation for our essential early childhood educators than with a delicious lunch and homemade appreciation bookmark from the managers along with thank you hearts lovingly handmade from our Senior Preschool group the Wombats children. We have received so many messages of appreciation, beautiful flowers and yummy treats that have been passed on to the team. So to our passionate, inspiring and dedicated educators - thank you for creating such a nurturing, warm and inspiring community to be a part of. A big thankyou to our Approved Provider Libby Klingberg for hosting our beautiful lunch in appreciation of the team. Your guidance and support inspires us all to be the best we can be. #LoveMyECE #EarlyChildhoodEducatorsDay

19.01.2022 Masks dont replace distancing or hygiene. If youre making a cloth one, aim for three layers, with a water-repellent outside layer. Have a few for when youre... out. Put the used ones in a plastic bag and wash at home later. Handle them safely like you would a used tissue or hanky. No masks for children under 2 yrs theyre a choking hazard. 13.01.2022 Adults often label young children as being manipulative even though very young children do not possess the cognitive ability to mislead, manipulate, or deceive.... Researchers have been studying this for almost thirty years. Dr. Joan Peskin (University of Toronto) studying metacognition in young children, developed what is known as the Mean Monkey study. This experiment brings three and four year olds into the lab where they are introduced to the researchers Mean Monkey puppet, the children are given the choice between two stickers (one very exciting and the other rather boring). The children are informed that the monkey: always chooses first, will be interested in which ever sticker the child likes best, and the monkey will not care if the child is sad about which sticker she gets. The Mean Monkey proceeds to ask which sticker is the childs favorite and then promptly picks this sticker for themselves. In order to get the sticker they want, children need to deceive the monkey. This is what the researchers are interested in. What they find is that three year olds are not able to it even when it would benefit them. They are not able to deceive. They repeatedly tell the monkey which sticker they prefer and repeatedly their preferred sticker is taken by the puppet. It isnt until children are closer to 5 that children are able to discern that misleading the monkey is the only way for them to get the sticker they want. How we see children affects how we treat them. If we see young children as manipulative, we see it perhaps as a character flaw that needs to be fixed, corrected perhaps even punished. Knowing that a young child cannot manipulate us helps us in reframing the way we view their behavior and shifting our lens. This leads us to seeing young children in a more positive way. They arent trying to harm or manipulate. they are trying to communicate their needs in the way they know how right now. See more

06.01.2022 Once again another year has almost vanished and educators throughout the world are last minute thinking What can we do for a Christmas present this year!!!? ... If you are anything like myself I get fatigued at the thought of the same old gifts. I really want to do something meaningful, yet cost effective. It becomes difficult to think and plan different presents based on this, especially when some families don’t celebrate Christmas.. How can I involve a child in gift making so they are still included but do it with a purpose for the child and their family This all changed the year my service introduced Kindyhub .. why? Find out on our latest blog -> https://www.kindyhub.com.au/merry-photogenic-christmas/
