19.01.2022 Wow, what an incredible opportunity for Alison Rahill to share our work with migrants with over 200 professionals engaged with migrant women. One of the best conferences we have been to in terms of inclusivity, affordability and collective purpose! Congrats to Community Migrant Resource Centre on such a meaningful event.

12.01.2022 The Australian Labor Party has announced major reforms to assist people affected by forced marriage in Australia -- many based on our recommendations and experiences supporting people for the past 10 years. If elected, the ALP will set up a specialist forced marriage unit, provide unconditional support services, enact protection orders and provide funding for community initiatives. There is nothing to stop the Turnbull government from enacting these same reforms right now. We will be posting more over the next few days on this important topic.
11.01.2022 Our partner Laura Vidal from Good Shepherd Australia New Zealand is at the Global Girls Not Brides conference in Malaysia -- the largest ever global event focused on this issue! Some of the current challenges highlighted include: 1)Translating commitments into action 2) Shrinking civil society opportunities for funding and other resources... 3) The perception that efforts to end child marriage are ‘going well’ and therefore we become complacent We also look forward to hearing from Laura when she returns about promising initiatives that are making a difference.
10.01.2022 School counsellors are well-placed to receive disclosures of forced marriage by young people at-risk and then make referrals for support. Thanks CatholicCare Sydney for the chance to train your staff. There were several examples of counsellors responding both professionally and personally. 02.01.2022 What an incredible week for the #endslavery movement in Australia with more to come! Freedom Advocate Moe Turaga shared his story at the World Law Forum event in Sydney. He followed Chris Crewther MP - Federal Member for Dunkley and Paul Green MLC's presentations about NSW and federal Modern Slavery bills. Mr Turaga can be proud of his contribution to these efforts and we are grateful to him for his courage, conscience and commitment to helping others.
