06.01.2022 Monday Memo #21 Pterygiums If you don't wear sunnies, this is for you! A Pterygium (said "teh-RIH-jee-um") is a growth on the sclera (white part of the eye) that may cover the iris (the coloured part of the eye). It can cause the eye to be dry, irritated, red and can even cause blurry vision. But it CAN BE PREVENTED! Wearing a hat and proper sunglasses will give you protection from sunlight and wind which can cause this eye condition. If you've already got a pterygium, see yo...ur optometrist to manage discomfort and to monitor size and colour (you can also this this yourself!) **Proper sunglasses will be Category 3, polarised and have good coverage over your eyes.
