21.01.2022 Ah the serenity; the cows have been separated from their calves who have virtually weaned themselves and are fat . But the mothers will stay close for some time protesting and keeping us awake #weaning #serenity #cows #noisynights #calves #countrylife
21.01.2022 This is a clutch of guinea fowl eggs laid by one of my birds. I wrote a story about a guinea fowl and today submitted it to Walker Wednesday . Don’t think these beautiful but noisy creatures have made it into a kids book yet #walkerwednesday #walkerbooksaus #picturebooks #submissions #kidlit #writersofinstagram #eggs #guineafowl #inspiration #kidsauthor
21.01.2022 This is an illustration I did for a high school project many years ago. I have written a blog about the strange connections that emerge when we delve into the past. Go to my website www.paulastevensonwriter.com.au

19.01.2022 Happy Wattle Day from Australia; we love to see the yellow sprays shining in the garden and along the road .We have 1000 species in Australia and from 1988 it was recognised as the national floral emblem. It is on the Australian coat of arms. Wattle sprigs were sold to raise money during WW1 and now it is used as a sign of remembrance #wattleday #sept1 #acacia #yellow #coatofarms #australianflora #remembrance #rural

16.01.2022 It’s drafting day; all the cows and calves have been brought into the yards. The larger calves will be drafted off and weaned. The cows will stay around till preg testing day tomorrow. Luckily we have a few extra hands to help as I have been given the day off #cows #cowsofinstagram #drafting #yards #calves #weaning #countryliving

11.01.2022 Sister time...had not seen my younger sister for nearly a year, it was time to re unite. So I dragged her away from the worries about COVID to the clean country air, punctuated by the bellows of cows and the trilling of the magpies. We ferreted in some old albums and found this gem...have to love the bows in our hair!! #photo #memories #sisters #escapetothecountry #nocovid #cows #bows #birds

07.01.2022 Delighted to be part of this anthology
07.01.2022 Found this scruffy little nest on the ground, maybe blown down in the recent winds. The nest is constructed of tough black hair from the cows and woven with some blue threads from our hay bale twine . We have nests of all shapes around our verandah and hidden in amongst the banksia rose . #nests #wind #losthomes #birdsofinstagram #birds #countryliving #haybales #twine #blue #authorsofinsta #inspiration #kidlit
05.01.2022 Brain Pickings always has a gem. Today it was a link to words by Pablo Neruda about the Chilean forest. Here are a few sparkling words: 'This is a vertical world: a nation of birds. a plenitude of leaves....A butterfly goes past, bright as a lemon, dancing between the water and the sunlight.'
05.01.2022 I re-posted a blog below about my husband's passion for trees and then I remembered this quote from Rabindranath Tagore....so true

04.01.2022 20+ books for middle grade readers! . This can be a challenging age in terms of book choices as readers begin to transition from younger books to books for mo...re mature reads. Middle grade novels are most suitable for readers from 12-15 and are a great way to ‘hold the hands’ of young readers as they walk/read their way from younger fiction to the world of YA fiction; a more gentle transition than if we went from say, junior fiction fairy books to hard core young adult novels with *all* the mature themes! . Middle-grade novels often feature themes of friendships, family, social issues and community or wider world issues, with relatable central characters. http://ow.ly/vhg350CoDX5
03.01.2022 This is the quirky cover for the latest anthology called 'Tell 'Em They're Dreaming...Bedtime ballads and tall tales from the Australian Bush.', a wonderful collection of stories and poems from passionate children's authors. My contribution, 'Dave in the Wild West' , is a story about a guy who loves to chase wild pigs and rescue wedge tailed eagles. The anthology will be available for pre -order online, from Oct 1, 2020 and all profits will be directed to the NSW Fire Service.... This anthology was inspired and produced by Michelle Worthington and her team. #michelleworthingtonauthor #anthology #australianstories #shareyourstory
