17.01.2022 Pedestrian Safety Improvements Southport-Burleigh Road and Markeri Street intersection, Mermaid Waters. The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will soon be upgrading pedestrian facilities at the intersection of SouthportBurleigh Road (Bermuda Street) and Markeri Street in Mermaid Waters. ... TMR has received many requests from residences, asking for safer pedestrian facilities to allow pedestrians to cross the slip lanes safely. Funding has now been committed to undertake improvements which will include: Installation of signalised pedestrian crossings on all four slip lanes with push buttons for cyclists included at the new North-Western slip lane. Tactile Ground Surface Indicators (TGSI) installed for vision impaired persons including upgrading the existing pram ramps to meet DDA compliance. Vegetation trimming/removal (including shrub and tree clearing on the South-East corner) to allow for motorists to have mandatory line-of-sight to the new pedestrian crossings. Planting of new shrubs/bushes to replace the screening that will be removed on the South-East corner. Supply and installation of new static signage to alert approaching motorists. Line marking for the new pedestrian crossings and minor adjustments to existing pedestrian crossing alignments Traffic control associated with the above works. Works are expected to commence in the first quarter of 2021 and continue for up to four months, weather and contractor conditions permitting. Works will mainly be undertaken during the evening between 7pm and 6am, Sunday to Friday, with some day works outside of peak travel times. Changed traffic conditions will apply, including intermittent lane reductions and reduced speed limits with traffic control in place. 09.01.2022 Community Grants Program Round 2 is now open. Applications will be accepted from 1 January... Closing date is 31 January 2021. The City of Gold Coast’s Community Grants Program provides grant funding to community organisations seeking to deliver projects with a whole of city focus; that are in the public interest; and that benefit Gold Coast residents. This round incorporates both the Seniors Week and NAIDOC Week programs. Recipients of Round 1 community grants included sporting clubs, welfare and social development organisations, environmental agencies and multicultural organisations.
