25.01.2022 Free hand arabesques on rwl34 with a paracord wrap.

23.01.2022 I wish you all a better year than the last one, send you a big hug and thank you for your support. I do however have a funny feeling about what's coming, a bit like when you know there's something right behind you without even looking.

23.01.2022 Weekend course, an other beautiful weekend in the shed.

21.01.2022 Up for adoption. I've got these 3 guys looking for a new home. Details on the website. https://www.paulsknives.com.au/shop/

21.01.2022 I generally don't buy knives, but when Tim got a batch of flippers made, I couldn't resist. Great opening mechanism and fit and finish. This will come with me in many little bush adventures. https://www.facebook.com/kingsfordknives

20.01.2022 Last weekend's course. A huge amount of work went into these. The chopper is enormous, and the hunter has some very fine details.

20.01.2022 A very good boy.

19.01.2022 Great minds think alike. This weekend's students already had some serious skills, and did a fantastic job. I didn't...I helped with the hole in the handle and got over excited, went a bit too far on one of them, exposing the hole and epoxy while shaping the handle.

19.01.2022 I've got a few ready to go. Details in the pictures.

18.01.2022 Banjo. RWL34 and Red Malee burl.

18.01.2022 Re etched and handle re shaped. I could say that this knife didn't want to be made and fought me until it gave up, but it's just an unanimated object, and everything that went wrong had nothing to do with the knife, but with its maker who wasn't well inspired or wasn't in the right frame of mind that day.

17.01.2022 That's a serious statement. RWL34, copper bolsters with brass pins, carbon fibre scales with brass and copper fittings.

17.01.2022 This is Bro. The Blue Ring Octopus.

17.01.2022 Kitchen knife prototype. The goal is to make a kitchen knife from start to finish in 2 hours to keep the price down without compromising on edge geometry. materials and fit and finish. 160mm long, 1.8mm thick NitroV, with a thin convex cutting edge, Mulga handle and brass corbies.

17.01.2022 Homo piratus. Rwl34 and Lance Wood.

16.01.2022 With enough steel left for a couple of kitchen and a handful of hunting/utility knives, the timing of this delivery was perfect. I should be OK for a little while. Big thank you to Gameco.

14.01.2022 Sharp and ready to go.

13.01.2022 This weekend was a one on one course, and I had a very enthusiastic student with good skills and very interesting stories to tell. There's always more than just knife making, there's time to have a chat at smoko and share stories. I love my work.

13.01.2022 2 students, 2 days, 4 knives. An other beautiful weekend making dust and sparks.

12.01.2022 A couple of rapier's blades etched for a local guy who wants to make sure he doesn't get things mixed up.

11.01.2022 Time for a bargain!

11.01.2022 Finished machete. This bloody thing keeps biting me. 1.8 mm thick NitroV blade with RInged Gidgee handle scales.

10.01.2022 A student didn't turn up and seems to be ignoring me. I should have checked and realised that he hadn't paid, and I'm as pissed off with myself as I am with him. I am busy, and there's very patient people who are waiting for up to four months to do a course. I'm sure one would have been very happy to take this spot. Anyway, I understand that personal situations may change, and some people are just dicks, but a little communication can go a long way. Picture to lift the mood.

10.01.2022 The rulers. These are the result of a great combined effort with Baafu Baafu and Dar Lu. I've made 14 and should have about 50 all up, but it will take a while before I finish them all.

10.01.2022 1st class of the year. Too easy.

09.01.2022 OOOOOHHH nice, very nice.

08.01.2022 This is sad news. I was really looking forward to it and getting excited to catch up with so many people I haven't seen in a year or two.

07.01.2022 Reconstructive surgery. This knife doesn't have a commercial value, but certainly has a sentimental one, which is priceless. It needed a bit of love and care, and it's now ready for many for barbies to come.

05.01.2022 Mother and son knife making course. I really enjoyed this one. She picked up skills very quickly and he already knew a lot about knives and tools. I pretty much let him do his things and checked on how he was going every now and then. He certainly knew what he wanted to make and got it right. A other beautiful weekend under the sun.

05.01.2022 24 packs of 12 belts and more to come. Belts are the most expensive part of knife making, representing about a third of my yearly expenditures. This is why I always smile when I hear people say they use unknown recycled steel to save money. If you can afford, belts for your grinder, you can certainly spend a few dollars on good steel, and at least you won't waste your belts.

03.01.2022 Husband and wife course. I really like these classes, where one participant has never used tools, has a slow start, and then picks up skills quickly, really gets into it, pays attention to the small details, and does a fantastic job. RWL34, with Buloke for one, and Dead Finish for the other.

03.01.2022 Smoko Carbon. Number 20 of 20. 50 grams! 145 express posted.

03.01.2022 Kids these days. This weekend I have a mum and her son for a knife making course, and I have to say that this 15 year old can grind! Note that the handle is left oversized for a reason. If the plunge lines move too far toward the handle, there's still plenty of meat to get the knife right without changing its overall shape and look. If everything goes according to plan, we'll grind the excess material. More on Monday.

02.01.2022 Let's start the year with something simple. Full tang in CPM154 with unknown stabilised butl.

02.01.2022 The winner has been drawn. Smoko Design give away. Please read before sharing.
