23.01.2022 Not sure if these are available in Australia?!

21.01.2022 Let them sniff!!

21.01.2022 Ever noticed those slits at the sides of a dog's nose? Why do dogs have them? Once again, nature proves her elegance in the design of our dogs. When we humans ...inhale and exhale, air comes in the same way it goes out. Any smells that come in through our mouths are forced out as we exhale, if we exhale out our mouths. When a dog exhales through his nose, however, the exhaled air is released through those slits and off to the side so that nice, smelly air going into the dog's nostrils doesn't get diluted with the outgoing air. Put another way, the slits allow the dog to avoid smelling what he just exhaled. The slits help the dog hold scent particles in the nostrils even as exhaled air passing out the slits creates a swirling air turbulence allowing interesting odors to be inhaled directly into the centre of each nostril. Since dogs breathe faster when trying to sniff a certain smell, they widen their nostrils to pull in more air which makes it possible for a dog searching for smells to have a steady stream of air coming in for up to 40 seconds, maybe even longer. The slits also allow dogs to wiggle each nostril independently which gives them the ability to know which nostril a smell entered. This is how a dog can pinpoint where a smell is coming from, and why a dog searching for smells on the ground will weave back and forth as he follows a trail. We all know the superb smelling abilities of dogs, but let's use an analogy between scent and sight to really put it into perspective: If our eyes were our nose, what we as humans can see at a third of a mile, our dog can see more than 3,000 miles away and still see as well. Just wow.

20.01.2022 It is so important to learn the body language and early signs of a dog being put in a very uncomfortable situation and feeling unable to escape or retreat.

16.01.2022 What type of bowl is best for you dog’s water and food? Dr Jean Dodds from Hemopet gives us the research. HEMOPET SUGGESTIONS... Which type of bowl to choose? It really depends on your lifestyle, but we aim for stainless steel. No matter what material you choose, you should follow some guidelines: Scratched or cracked plastic bowls should be recycled. Do not use cracked or chipped ceramics, earthenware or stoneware. Look for BPA and Phthalate Free for plastic bowls. However, this is a leap of faith since that marketing claim is not regulated. If you choose ceramic, earthenware or stoneware, make sure it is made in a country that has lead laws similar to the United States. Remember, the bowls can still contain lead. Choose BPA and Phthalate Free products even though the alternatives may not be the best Wash, wash, wash the bowls daily! 15.01.2022 Are you feeding your pets IRRADIATED CHINESE MEAT PRODUCTS? Many pet treats are nothing more than imported products from China, a country with a history of ex...porting harmful pet products. Popular Australian brand WAG duck and chicken breast treats are irradiated Chinese meat products. How can you tell? On a small discreet sticker on the packaging, in very small letters, you’ll find the words Product of PRC. If you don’t know what PRC means, it means Peoples Republic of China. Meat products from China are irradiated, a process known to be harmful to cats. It is unknown what harm can be done to dogs. Concerning, wouldn’t you agree? 13.01.2022 Great quality raw food. My redheads love it!

12.01.2022 How harmful are irradiated treats from China? Irradiated meats are known to cause neurological damage in cats, with many cases in Australia proving fatal. The R...SPCA wants irradiation of pet meats banned, stating there may be as yet unidentified health effects on dogs. Many reports of Fanconi Sydrome, a form of kidney failure, have been linked to dogs fed large amounts of imported jerky-style treats. Perth-based Cottesloe Vets have stated their is evidence of an outbreak of the syndrome from the PetFAST system (used to report pet food related incidents). You may be surprised how many treats sold in Australia are imported and irradiated from China. A visit to a popular pet store showed many popular brands of treats to be sourced from China, only apparent by reading small print. Products from BlackDog, VitaPet, MasterPet, and WAG use Chinese meat products. This is not a complete list. The potential harm from irradiated treats increases with overfeeding. Cottesloe Vets say dogs under 10kg are mostly affected, but any dog can be affected and there are also reports in cats. Some of the treats listed above are sold in 1kg bags, which makes excessive feeding a worrying concern. As of December 31, 2015, the FDA (US Food & Drug Administration) had received approximately 5,200 complaints of illness associated with consumption of chicken, duck, and sweet potato jerky treats, many of which related to products imported from China. This is inclusive of more than 1,140 canine deaths. We recommend you do not feed irradiated pet meat products from China.
