20.01.2022 Bodhi, Fletch & Molly on a sniffari at Alan Edwards Park

20.01.2022 I finished making my first snuffle mat yesterday and gave it to Fletch and Molly to forage in. Needless to say, it was a big hit! It took them ages to forage for their biscuits, and it was great seeing and hearing them using their noses I am very pleased with the result of my efforts!

20.01.2022 Miss Morgan, Little Miss Maitri, Big Boy Mak & Little Lisa enjoying morning walkies at Piney Lakes

19.01.2022 Some great poses with Zach, Shep, new boy Fred and Fletch. And finally one with a female in it - Jax, Jelly (Angelina), Gizmo and Big Archie (I also take a Little Archie on play dates and adventures). All these clients’ dogs started with me with issues with social skills and/or recall (coming when called). By a process of training and socialisation they have blossomed into attentive and socially adept dogs

17.01.2022 **THIS BROKE MY HEART*** COPIED. Batteries not included ...... It is Christmas day today, And all are full of cheer, But I lay freezing on the step, I always sleep right here. I never get to go inside, And join in all the fun, I'm what they call a yard dog, When all is said and done. They have given me some scraps, I think it was last week, Now laying in the snow today, I am feeling tired and weak. I can hear the children playing, As my head lay on my paws, This time just last year, I was a gift from Santa Claus. I don't know what I did wrong, To be shut out in the yard, I only lived inside 6 months, Since then my life's been hard. The snow is falling heavy now, I'm just a block of ice, And when I breathe the cold cold air, My lungs feel like a vice. A miracle then came to pass, An Angel did appear, She glowed, and I could feel the heat, As she floated near. She reached her hand and beckoned, It was such a sight to see, She smiled and said "Good Dog, It is time to come with me. I will take you to the bridge, Where all the Good Dogs go You can play there in the sunshine, There will be no freezing snow." My bag of bones stood up then, I shook the snow from off my fur, And,as I slowly followed, This is what I said to her. "I am not a Good Dog though, In that I think you're wrong, No one would shut a Good Dog, In the garden for so long." The Angel turned and smiled, As I walked with head hung low, Then she said"I'm sorry, I thought that you would know. You really are a Good Dog, The reason why your time is up, It is just unfortunate, You were born a Christmas pup." I now live at the Rainbow Bridge, And I am filled with joy, But remember this at Christmas time, A dog is NOT a toy. To clarify this message, To which I have eluded, Animals are living things, Batteries are not included ~ Author Unknown

13.01.2022 Coco, the Airedale Terrier, started with me in November 2020. She was dog-reactive, had never been allowed off-lead, and jumped up on people. When out walking, she was not interested in listening to her owner. With some owner education and assessing Coco with my own dogs, we were able to introduce her to a variety of dogs selected for their good social skills in order to help Coco feel comfortable, have positive interactions and increase her confidence around dogs. ... We initially walked her on a 9 metre long-line and also worked on her recall and were soon able to let her off-lead. We also addressed the jumping up by teaching her and rewarding alternative behaviours when greeting people e.g. Four paws on the floor and/or put her nose to human hand for a reward. In the video below, Coco is being walked by her owner on the long-line. Lola and Zach are both regular twice per week social walk dogs. Lola came to me as a training client - an adolescent labrador with the usual issues. The owners had never let her off-lead and didn’t let her indoors as she chewed everything up and the kids were scared of her because she was very boisterous. The owners and I had a few training sessions at home and at local parks. Now Lola goes indoors, the kids love her, her recall is brilliant, and she is much calmer. Zach came to me 2 years ago as a 3 and 1/2 year old Groodle training client. He was scared of people, especially men, and he wouldn’t listen to his owner and had no recall. The owner and I had a couple of training sessions and then I started taking him out with other dogs so he could learn what was expected of him. Over a few months, he transformed into a confident, happy boy with a fantastic recall and has no issues with people/men anymore. I discovered cheese is very high value to him and so trained his recall with cheese, as well as using it to build positive associations with people.

12.01.2022 Here is Coco during her remedial socialisation sessions. She meets a variety of my social group dogs and I make sure she has positive experiences in a variety of parks to increase her general confidence.

10.01.2022 Snuffling away! Snuffle mats are a great way for dogs to forage and use their noses to seek food (which is natural for them to do). They are more stimulating and time-consuming for the dog than a food bowl. They are very easy and cheap to make: Bunnings for rubber mat with holes in it, Spotlight for fleece which you cut into strips and tie through the holes. Bingo! ... My dogs get their food in a variety of ways. Daily Kongs with either raw Big Dog patties or homemade casserole which has all the nutrition they need. Plus food hidden in various cardboard boxes, egg cartons, towels etc. Plus earning food through training. At the moment, we are working through a 6 month scent work course for fun which the dogs are loving. It gives the dogs the opportunity to use their most prominent sense in a structured way and be rewarded for their brilliance. They earn food through searching for and finding scents I am training them to detect
