25.01.2022 Assessment and Reporting in Mathematics Standard Stage 6. A document with the above title was published by NESA in February. An amended version was published recently. It includes the HSC Exam specifications for Standard 1 and 2. I have spent a lovely hour or two compiling the changes into a document so that we don't all need to do the same thing. Here it is. Please let me know if I missed anything. :-) https://drive.google.com/open
24.01.2022 Great day at Burwood RSL today with Jackie Blue and 21 super-dedicated teachers who gave up a Saturday to enjoy Jackie's enthusiasm, ideas and inspiration for non-traditional assessment.
24.01.2022 Does your school have a 'small cohort' of Year 12 Advanced or Standard 2 (ie 15-ish students or less). We are running Study Days for you. See page 5 of this document: https://docs.google.com//1MtKuA1nVmoavme6mcqnKXbb4du/edit

21.01.2022 Our online PD workshop for Networks (a new topic in Stage 6 Standard) kicked off in March. You can join in at any time. The map below shows our network of regional Networks-ers. They have unlimited ongoing access to Becky Lovelock's excellent teaching and learning resources and can seek help at any time. Becky has covered every aspect of the topic in great depth and detail in PowerPoints and videos. More information here: www.pd4maths.com.au/networks-what-how.html

Much appreciated. Hope you all made it home without any kangaroo collisions :-) Next stop Wagga Wagga, then Port Macquarie and Griffith: http://www.pd4maths.com.au/assessment-of-learning.html

16.01.2022 Hard at work on our new online workshop: 'Vectors: The What and the How'
16.01.2022 THE NEWS ABOUT NETWORKS If you want to get ready to teach Networks, you will love this online workshop: Networks-The What and the How. Becky Lovelock taught this topic in England several times and was involved with that section of the syllabus for NESA as Senior Years Curriculum Officer for Mathematics. Over the break Becky has turned the Standard 1 and Standard 2 content into 8 very detailed PowerPoint slideshows you could use in class and share with your students. These are accompanied by videos for teachers in which Becky explains the examples and the finer points which contribute to student learning/understanding. We sincerely believe this is the ideal way for teachers to learn about the topic of Networks AND how to teach it. More information here: http://www.pd4maths.com.au/networks-what-how.html
15.01.2022 Our online PD workshop for 'Networks' is open! (but you can join any time you like) Becky Lovelock has worked feverishly over the summer to deliver a PD experience like no other. The topic has been divided into 8 sections. Each section has a very detailed PowerPoint slideshow you can use in class. Each slideshow also has a voice-over video in which Becky will show you how to do the maths and how to teach it. There is also a very detailed teaching program in which all the info...rmation in the topic guidance document has been matched to the relevant content. The plethora of terminology has been arranged in student-friendly documents. 120+ teachers from 70+ schools have signed up. More information here: www.pd4maths.com.au/networks-what-how.html See more
15.01.2022 Hi everyone, Lots of people have been asking if we are going to provide some PD about the new-to-NSW topic of Networks, which is in Year 12 Standard 1 and Standard 2. The answer is YES! We have engaged Becky Lovelock to do the presenting. Becky is very well versed in the topic, having taught the topic in the UK several times and worked on the syllabus development for NESA. It is an online workshop, commencing in March 2018. We are doing it online because most of us NSW-ers need to learn how to DO the maths and also need advice about how best to TEACH it. We believe this is best done in small, repeatable doses rather than a massive face-to-face information overload. Here is the workshop webpage, which contains a link to a three-page brochure: http://www.pd4maths.com.au/networks-what-how.html
15.01.2022 On my way for my 6th business trip to Broken Hill, 1150km from Sydney, which is further than Sydney to Brisbane. Teachers are driving up to 300km each way to get here from Wilcannia, Menindee and Coomealla. One word for that...dedicated!
15.01.2022 A long drive home from Wagga Wagga last night, but I was very relieved not to be flying in those strong winds. Once again, it was humbling and flattering to see the distances that teachers travel for our PD workshops. See attached map. Thanks for being there everyone. Due to an overwhelming response, the days are being repeated in Griffith on September 4 and 5. Details are here: http://www.pd4maths.com.au/assessment-of-learning.html
13.01.2022 Just got home from a couple of days with my North Coast colleagues. Always impresses me how far some people are willing to drive for these events. Map below:
13.01.2022 Authentic Assessment in Mathematics Our first face-to-face PD Day for 2018 is on Saturday March 17 at Burwood RSL. 12.01.2022 Hi everyone, In the new Year 11 Standard Syllabus we are expected to ''derive the Trapezoidal rule for a single application''. I have created a PowerPoint slideshow that does this in a easy-to-understand fashion. https://drive.google.com/open Many ready-to-use files and websites such as this are currently being linked to the teaching programs I am creating for the Year 11 Standard WINDDSM Online Workshop. You can sign up any time and receive a never-ending supply of useful teaching resources. More information here: http://www.pd4maths.com.au/the-windssm-series.html

11.01.2022 Yesterday we did the fifth of five 'Assessing Assessment' PD days. Big thanks for making it possible to Angela Bottaro-Porter and the 110 dedicated teachers from the towns in the yellow boxes, many of whom travelled long distances to be there :-).
10.01.2022 MANSW Conference - the winners of our two draws! At the Learn Implement Share table we ran two DRAWS, one for Learn Implement Share and one for PD4MaTHS' WINDSSM people. Stuart and I decided to draw the winners at the end of the conference and to video them (because no one would be there at the end of Sunday!) Some people think the videos are funny. I have no idea why because both Stuart and I were being as serious and professional as we could be. You be the judge. Thanks to Rhonda Mossel for scrutinising the events. 10.01.2022 Just got home from delivering two days of PD in Tamworth. Check out the map showing the distances that maths teachers travelled to be there. Their dedication to providing quality education for their students is totally inspiring. As the provider of the workshops it is also incredibly flattering and rewarding that they were willing to travel so far to attend our workshops. Thank you so so much. :-) Next stop is Orange, then Wagga, Port Macquarie and Griffith. http://www.pd4maths.com.au/assessment-of-learning.html Stuart

09.01.2022 Greetings from Broken Hill airport. Check out the rainfall statistics for 2018. It is so dry here (much moreso than usual) that large numbers of emus have moved into the town to find something to eat and drink. Sometimes more than 10 on the school oval. It rained last night, a little. http://www.bom.gov.au/jsp/ncc/cdio/weatherData/av http://www.abc.net.au//2018-08-16/emus-take-over-/10122430
