25.01.2022 At the turning of the year- something to contemplate if you are considering how you might live in 2020. A simple idea which could have a profound impact.

25.01.2022 A teacher cannot give you the truth. The truth is already in you. You only need to open yourself - body, mind, and heart - so that his or her teachings will penetrate your own seeds of understanding and enlightenment. - Thich Nhat Hanh #Insight #ThichNhatHanhGems

23.01.2022 The the theme for this term is balance-equanimity- equilibrium. This post from Jack Kornfield provides a beautiful explanation of equanimity.

19.01.2022 My chair yogis with arthritis would attest to the value of yoga- and now the evidence from a scientific study about the impact of yoga on lower body pain and pain displacement. Read on....

18.01.2022 Great article- a much richer perspective of the lives of the locked down tower block residents than some of the other perspectives floating around.

16.01.2022 A lovely gentle sequence which illustrates the concept of effortless effort beautifully. Try it and see what your body thinks.

14.01.2022 What’s equanimity to you? This quote from Joan Halifax Roshii (Buddhist teacher): ....the capacity to be in touch with suffering without being swept away by it...equanimity is the strong back that supports the soft front of compassion...’ seemed to capture the imagination of most students last week.... Breath practices to foster a state of equanimity include extended exhalation, nadi shodhan and brahmari (humming bee)- all of these will feature in classes this term. Join us on a Wed evening or Thurs morning at Aranda ( Wed yoga for arthritis class is full) if you’d like to experience more balance, equanimity and equilibrium in your life. Private classes also available- I can tailor a program designed especially for your needs. Om shanti Marg

11.01.2022 I hope you have a piglet or an Anam Cara (soul friend) in your life too.

10.01.2022 A regular, short practice based on what your mind-body needs right now and dictated by the seasons may be uplifting and sustainable......you might like to give yourself a 21 day challenge to see how it works.

09.01.2022 Practices for returning Mark Nepo - American Poet and Author- talks of the importance of having practices for "returning". Returning to the present moment, returning to one's core.... What practices do you have for returning? Yoga and mindfulness can you support you in reconnecting. Some options could be: Touching your finger tips together, experimenting with the amount of pressure. Pressing your feet into the floor with or without shoes on. Counting your breath in and out. Walking meditation where you focus on the feet making contact with the ground and taking your awareness into the hips and legs as you shift your weight from one leg to another. Listening to the sounds around you. Engaging in an activity, hobby, passion in which you are fully engaged. A slow mindful yoga routine. Be kind to yourself, these are extraordinary times and you may find that you need to return over and over in the course of the day.

08.01.2022 How will you celebrate or mark the winter solstice this year? For Pagans the winter solstice marks the start of the solar year and is a celebration of light and rebirth of the sun. The rites connected with the winter solstice symbolise the innate creative powers of nature that lie just below the surface at this time of year. It’s really a festival of inner renewal.... Winter has a profound effect in the world outside. Correspondingly the inner human journey slows and quiets as the energy of the season supports introspection. Yoga provides many options for that inner, winter journey. Maybe you could spend more time meditating, doing strengthening and warming asana sequences and stimulating pranayama ( please check first that it’s a suitable option for you). Abhyanga - daily self massage with suitable spices and oils for your dosha. This Ayurvedic practice is said to have many benefits. Comfort food is tempting at this time of the year- is your comfort food also deeply nourishing? You might even like to keep a journal noting the hidden delights of winter! There are many to be found. As for the solstice itself you might like to mark it with a special meal with family and friends, a quiet evening of meditation in the dark followed by the lighting of many candles, a big fire, getting up for sunrise the next day.........

08.01.2022 Focus on the breath can help us stabilise and keep things in perspective.
