24.01.2022 YEAR 10 TERM 3 HPE Term 3 was both busy and lots of fun for our HPE students. A training program session at Goomboora Park where students rotated around different training methods including interval training, strength and core work along with a Tabata session. This was part of their personal training program assessment and Multi-Modal presentation involving their evaluation and reflection of training for improvements towards their goals and overcoming challenges.... And just because they have lots of energy, they embarked on a hike of the Yellow Arrow track. 21.01.2022 LIVING OUR PEACE VALUE - COMMUNITY Recently, our Year 3 students and their teachers displayed the community spirit of our great school, writing thinking of you letters and cards to cheer up the residents of a Victorian retirement village who were struggling with the isolation of being in lockdown. The students wrote a letter, made a card and added a word search activity to send to the residents to cheer them up and give them hope. And the students have since received replie...s from some of the residents... A lady by the name of Priscilla phoned to say, "I am doing it pretty tough down in Melbourne. I received a word search and letter from Elliannah and was absolutely delighted. It made my day." "It was a real treat when residents went to their mailbox and found a card and letter from your grade 3 students. They were so pleased." Thank you Year 3 students, Mrs Robinson, Mrs ODea and Ms Turner. 14.01.2022 THURSDAY IS PYJAMA DAY AT PEACE! Students and staff are encouraged to come to school in their pyjamas in support of Pyjama Day. A gold coin donation, for the privilege of wearing PJs for the day, will be donated to the Pyjama Foundation. Modest sleepwear... think, flannelette pyjamas, onesies, dressing gowns, slippers, etc. can be worn for the day. Alternatively, students may wish to wear their sports uniform or formal uniform.... 14.01.2022 GETTING READY FOR BIG SCHOOL Over the past couple of weeks, the children from Peace Lutheran Kindergarten have been spending time in the College's Prep classrooms as part of our transition program which aims to provide a fun and positive start to their first experience of big school. Over these days, the children have been able to get to know our amazing Prep teachers, Mrs Bull and Mrs Rosendale, and become familiar with the classrooms and the daily Prep school routine.... 13.01.2022 CHRISTMAS FEELS Year 10 Home Economics students mentored our Year 2 students today during a lesson on how to make and decorate gingerbread houses. As you would imagine, it got a little bit messy but was so much fun. 13.01.2022 Our Year 10 students have been out on Work Experience this week, immersing themselves into the world of work. Student, Nikita Howarth, has been spending the week with Creative House - Cairns. This local business is located on Reservoir Road and specialises in face painting and body art, balloon design and retailing of locally made crafts and artwork. As a budding artist herself, Nikita has had the opportunity to work with materials such as resin, concrete and silicon. 12.01.2022 CHOCOLATE CHIP MINES... In their study of being good stewards of the earth Year 5 students had a look at carbon, and in particular Coal, in the area of sustainability and the impact of its usage on the Australian environment. Students developed two mining sites in their Dingo Creek town using their Christian Studies workbook, a skewer and two chocolate chip biscuits. They then dug for coal and reflected on the impact it had on the town and surrounding trees plants and creek.... With lots of yummy treats to purchase and rock painting stations, students were lined up to make sure they didn't miss out. 08.01.2022 PUTTING THEIR PLANS TO THE TEST Year 12 Physical Education students are currently studying Energy, Fitness and Training. They have been working in groups to develop a 3-session microcycle training plan specifically linked to an activity to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of energy supply, fitness components, training principles and training methods. In order to analyse and evaluate the effectiveness of their training plan, in preparation for their external asses...sment, they had to put it to the test. 04.01.2022 PEACE PREPS SHOW COMMUNITY SPIRIT As part of Semester 1s Project-based Learning (PBL), our Prep teachers spoke with their students about what we need to survive, discussing how some animals and people do not have everything they need. And with that in mind, the Prep students set off on a mission to help out. They have been busily collecting people items and animal items to donate to local charities whose work it is to help those less fortunate. Today, Ms Elaine Krenske f...rom the Trinity Lutheran Church stopped in to accept the very kind donations that will be distributed to the Cairns Lutheran Parishs appeal for disadvantaged people. The students have also collected many animal items that will be donated next term to the RSPCA. 01.01.2022 FIREFIGHTERS COME TO PEACE It's always such an exciting time for our Year 1s when the Fire Fighters pay a visit! Earlier in the term members from our local SES visited Year 1 students to talk about fire safety and what they should do in the event of a fire and they were also tasked with checking at home that all their smoke alarms were working.... And this week, the follow-up visit saw the students handling the fire hose and then having a play in its massive water spray. Just too much fun!! 01.01.2022 NO MORE EXCUSES! Yesterday, our Year 9 Physical Education class walked with purpose - some choosing to run - to Lake Placid as apart of their continuous training session. They then did a quick HITT session before walking back to school. The purpose of this type of training was to show the students they are able to train anywhere and they dont need equipment to achieve success....
