24.01.2022 Positions available on PeaceMeals Board The PeaceMeals community send our best wishes to Hugh Lyons, his wife Alice and treasured baby daughter Audrey. We are very grateful to Hugh and Lander and Rogers law firm, for establishing the constitution and incorporation of PeaceMeals as a charity. Hugh contributed to the board in several roles, was a ‘quiet doer’, a wonderful communicator with guests and always willing to help where required. We will miss his work and his gentle sm...ile. Thank you Hugh we wish you happy days with your family. We have several roles on the board and also on the committee. For effective governance and growth the board members need to take an active role and a ‘position’, as well as having passion and being an ambassador for PeaceMeals. It is not an onerous task, attending six dinners per year and three meetings as well as one hour a week or four hours a month on administration As a reflection of the diversity of our society, it is desirable for the ethnicity, gender and age of the board members to be diverse. Deputy Director fills in as Director when required, Legal role, keeping all legal requirements up to date and documents lodged as required Secretary Keeping and publishing minutes of meetings, keeping contact lists up to date, keeping all records as required Treasurer keeps all financial records, attends all dinners and takes responsibility for payments and banking, prepares financial statements for end of year requirements and auditing Committee Community Engagement actively networks and cultivates relationships within our diverse community Marketing- attends all dinners, systematically organizes photography, social media posts, newsletters and press releases If you have the appropriate skills and are interested in being on the board please apply by email [email protected] Warmly Kate Shelton, Director See more

09.01.2022 Good morning to Melbourne's PeaceMeals community. How are you going with the second lockdown? Stay in touch, stay well and we will see you on the other side.

08.01.2022 To our PeaceMeals community, I am concerned for some of our familes facing the threat of homelessness - and I am calling for some assistance from anyone who is in the position to do so. Charities and local councils are doing tremendous work keeping food on the table, however "paying rent' is the killer. If you are interested in helping Raj and Susan and their two children, with a few dollars towards their rent, please read below. For anyone else needing assistance please em...ail us [email protected] Stay safe Kate Shelton Nepalese refugees Susan and Raj came to Australia July 2012 by boat. They were detained in different detention centres for 2 years and in community detention for 3 years. In this period they had 2 children. They also have two other children residing in India but these two are not permitted to join them in Australia. When they arrived, they asked for political asylum. After 5 years in detention their case was considered and they were given a bridging visa for six months and a Safe haven visa. After establishing their own catering business in Melbourne they were required to move to a regional area from a selection of postal code for 42 months to qualify for permanent residency and either go to university or work, with no any financial support from government They relocated to Ballarat in 2016. Susan embarked on Early Childood studies and worked in a child care centre and Raj did Uber driving. He was set back in February this year when his car was stolen and damaged. Their other two cildren are not allowed to come to Australia but they can visit them in another country . Because of COVid both have reduced hours of work. With no government support available they are feeding their children with food generously donated from local charities and local councils. With no rent reduction, their real concern is being able to keep up payments having virtually no income at all. They have been informed by Centrelink that they are not eligable for any support from Government. If you would like to help them out with a few dollars please feel free to contact Raj m 0414918200 You might like to help them pay rent directly? Any help will be appreciated to keep this family in a home until they can get more work.

08.01.2022 Hello to you all We have been very quiet during this lockdown period, but the spring is here, the numbers are falling and restrictions are easing. There are many stories to share, both tragic and joyful, of how we passed this winter of 2020, in Melbourne and Victoria. Somehow we will share our stories, within and beyond PeaceMeals The crisis and the isolation have sharpened our awareness of our... interdependence - as humans. As we reengage socially, with our families, friends, community, our priorities and our values are clarified. After suffering, stress, fear and anxiety - as a community we are quite divided, angry and disengaged. With the warmth of the season, we need to recover. Let us embrace our loss AND our common humanity. Let us support each other, our families, our friends, our local businesses, our neighbours and those in great need. We all need kindness and recognition -as well as work and an income. We are all part of the whole In our fostering of a fair and equitable community we are looking at new ventures to help grow a cohesive society - respecting our diversity and our common humanity We will be in touch soon with our next event, online for now. Then we look forward to catching up 'al fresco' soon. Stay connected and keep in touch. Remember our generous supporters when you get out and about - South of Johnston and Oxford Larder, Grub Fitzroy, SIBLING by KINFOLK, Afro Hub, CDJ Juba, with good wishes Kate See more

08.01.2022 He is weeping.for all of us Needing some fresh air, I took an evening stroll along Swan Street to the Coles. Around 9pm, darkish, cool. As I approached, I passed two men sleeping rough, regulars. Approximately 100 metres apart, they both cuddled the wall. They looked safe enough outside a lit up, late night supermarket, both asleep, under blankets. After purchasing my few items I exited and walked along the pavement. One of the men was now propped up on his elbow. He was a ...Continue reading
