25.01.2022 Up early to catch the sunrise this morning, a rare sight here in WA What a wonderful way to start a new month! Have a lovely day whatever it is you have planned

25.01.2022 I love to plan. Anyone who knows me will agree. When it comes to Calendar Management, my favourite time has got to be as a new year approaches; calendar or financial. A blank canvas to start filling those empty days with all of the information you need to keep you on track with your priorities. I complete two tasks before I begin:... Time Zones - Australia has a few. Its important I can see these at a glance when scheduling meetings/workshops etc. One of my clients has customers dotted all over this beautiful country. Public Holidays - factoring these in gives me a good platform to start with, taking into consideration the different holidays across each State. Im curious to know, do you call it a Diary, a Calendar, or a Planner? See more

24.01.2022 Whats everyone up to this weekend? Mines a quiet one, its next weekend my diary starts to ramp up My weekend plans are:... Long walks along the coast Coffee catch-ups Dinner at home with friends Housework Whatever it is you have planned, I hope it makes you smile See more

23.01.2022 I recently spent some time scanning documents for one of my clients - I mean... who has time for that?

22.01.2022 Starting the week right! Goal setting with the lovely Espresso Lounge ladies. Setting goals really helps me stay focused for the month ahead. It also helps at the start of this workshop we check-in on how we went achieving last months goals; keeping us accountable. Its all well and good setting a goal, its what you do next thats important....... Set your goal(s). List all the actions you need to complete in order to reach your goal. Set yourself a realistic timeline. Work through each task on your list. Celebrate as you go. I recommend you do this every time you complete one of your tasks, it will really help keep you motivated to reaching your end goal. Let me know in the comments what goals you have set for yourself or your business this month. See more

16.01.2022 Things are so instant these days! Everyone and everything trying to grab your attention to either buy something, buy into, listen to, read, or watch. It can feel a little overwhelming at times I used to make a note in my phone when someone recommended a podcast, article, blog or a book to me, the trouble was, I ended up with a huge list and no time to do anything about it. I found by adding a block of reading/listening time to my diary did the trick. It took away the ov...erwhelm I felt when adding to my ever-increasing list, knowing I was going to get to it soon - 30 minutes twice a week works for me. This method works for many business tasks, here are a few off the top of my head: Planning your social media content Goal setting for the month ahead Updating your Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system Placing orders Responding to emails Bookkeeping What do you wish you could make time in your week for? 15.01.2022 I never get bored of this view Relaxing here after cleaning and jobs around the house, ahhhh thats better

15.01.2022 Following on from all the client love that was flying around last week, I got the urge to write this... It was a shock to my system when my role was made redundant at the beginning of 2020 thats for sure. My initial reaction was excitement with a touch of anxiety at the new opportunities that lay ahead. Im not sure I was ready for the roller coaster I was about to ride. REPUTATION - After working for large companies all of my life, building a reputation was important to... me, mostly known as the smiley person around the office, pen and paper in hand, the go-to girl accountable for everything I touched. Then suddenly, Im sat alone in my office at home, having to start over - connecting with new people, creating new networks. Which I guess youre thinking, isnt this just like starting a new job, which brings me to my next point. GOING TO THE OFFICE - Dont EVER take being employed for granted. You turn-up at work, there is work ready for you to do. When you run your own business, first you have to find the work before you do the work, which is like double the work. Plus, you must learn how to actually run a business. Before I embarked on this journey I naively imagined running a business was quite glamorous, coming and going as you please, making the difficult choice of which cafe to work out of each day, working in your pjs (well, there is a bit of that going on here some days ) meeting people for coffee Pfft... how wrong could I have been. Its a tough gig, but a rewarding one Have you had a similar experience? Id love to hear about it if youd like to share. See more

15.01.2022 My lovely friend made this for me when I got my first PA gig. 14.01.2022 I learnt a new word today. I heard it in a podcast I was listening to, it means perseverance; persistence. Ive said stick to it before, when encouraging someone not to give up, but I didnt realise sticktoitiveness was a word. Has anyone else heard or used this word before?... See more

12.01.2022 What a year to start a business hey! W H A T A J O U R N E Y It’s been a roller coaster for sure...... Out of my comfort zone Procrastinating like you wouldn’t believe Imposter syndrome. Who did I think I was thinking I could pull this off? Connecting with new people during a pandemic Creating networks Having to work it all out while trying to have it all worked out Figuring out my niche Taking time to think about my ideal client Baffled by the number of systems out there to help run your business, and trialling what works for me Finding my tribe - you know who you are #laptopandlatteladies Some days a slow and tiring slog. But, do you know what? I wouldn’t change it for the world. My passion to help others kept me going, as well as looking for more time freedom for myself. Pffft, I didn’t go to the beach half as much as I’d have liked. However, I did realise the importance of self-care Some of my favourite days have been the ones where I’ve been super focused, able to stay in my own lane, ploughed through my to do list, and see my client’s businesses thrive I’m looking forward to seeing what the next 12 months has in store It’s never too late to follow your dreams What’s your dream? 12.01.2022 Right now, Id hazard a guess there are more people not ok given whats going on in the world. If you ever needed an excuse to check-in with someone - today is it. Today is R U OK? Day. Ask a friend how they are, ask a stranger - be nice, lend an ear, you could just save a life Im ok today, R U?

12.01.2022 Fathers Day in Australia is not something I ever got to celebrate with my Dad. He passed away two years before I moved here, so never got to see the beautiful place I call home. This is a note from my Dad to me before my first ever trip down under in 1999 - I secretly think he knew something I didnt. Happy Fathers Day to anyone recognising a Father figure in their life today

09.01.2022 Calendars arent just used for meetings. If youre organised and like to have everything in one place, its good to add some of the following: Deadlines Reminders Time to prepare for upcoming meetings... Check-in on your actions Factor in time to eat Stretch your legs in between tasks Anniversaries Work blocks to actually do the work Have you ever taken time out to think about what your ideal work day looks like? 09.01.2022 This week I learnt more about a Task Management Tool I’ve been using called Trello It’s extremely user friendly, keeps all your projects, and to do lists in one place. 08.01.2022 Cheers to Social Media Day Did you know 81% of small and medium businesses use at least one social media platform to stay connected with their customers. Whats your preferred social media channel?... I like to use Instagram and Facebook for both business, and pleasure. I look to Insta for inspiring pictures and quotes, while I use Facebook for socialising, and webinars with other girl bosses plus, finding out whats going on in my local area. Not so long ago I took a year off Facebook, it was consuming too much of my time, I needed a break. Im all or nothing! See more

08.01.2022 I was having a bit of a declutter on the weekend and came across some of my old diaries. I didn’t dare open any of them, I would have been sat for hours reminiscing - another time perhaps For as far back as I can remember one of my favourite things used to be sitting at the dining room table with my brand new paper diary, new pen in hand, copying over birthdays from one diary to another, adding upcoming events, planning for a fresh new year ahead I won’t lie to you, i...t’s still one of my favourite things to do, albeit digitally these days If it’s not in the diary it ain’t happening. Literally everything goes in there, from personal appointments, planning for upcoming events, personal development time, blocks of time to complete work for a client, my to do list for the day, reminders etc... all colour coded so I can see at a glance what’s on Inputting birthdays and anniversaries take no time at all these days as they’re on repeat from this year #timesaver Just for fun, using an emoticon tell me how you feel about the thought of planning your 2021 diary. 06.01.2022 Linda @theyorkshiremanspie bakery was the inspiration behind Pen and Paper Girl. She was busy planning to move into her very first bakery, no time to deal with some of the paperwork that came with that Clare to the rescue If Linda had no time to deal with her back office tasks, then surely she wasn’t the only small business in this situation. She wanted to use her time wisely... to create, to bake, cooking utensils in her hands not pen and paper... 06.01.2022 Share the love by donating your data Did you know Optus let you donate your unused data to people in need? Its so easy to do:... Open your Yes Optus app Select donate your data Select donate now Choose how much to donate All done Being home more than ever just lately, I have lots of data left at the end of the month. 06.01.2022 Think of the time it would give you back in your day to focus on what you do best. Do you dread the thought of all those must do repetitive tasks you conduct on a regular basis? There are a number of benefits to hiring a Virtual Assistant (VA) as opposed to the commitment you make when hiring a member of staff - I thought Id share some of them with you.... The right VA already has the skills your business needs - saving on onboarding and training costs. Hire time as and when you need to. You dont have to provide office space or equipment - VAs have their own. A VA may work when your business is closed - perhaps evenings and weekends to get the job done. There is NO COST to you for: holiday pay; recruitment; superannuation; long service leave. If you like the thought of having your very own Personal Assistant, tell me... What would be the first task you would ask them to do? See more

06.01.2022 Benefits of indoor plants: Produces oxygen Removes toxins Creates a calm environment... Good for well-being Increases productivity My plant of choice is a spider plant Not only is it the easiest indoor plant to maintain, a spider plant produces oxygen, purifying the air in your home or office, by absorbing carbon monoxide, formaldehyde and xylene. 05.01.2022 As a small business owner you will know how easy it is to neglect your own tasks and focus on your client work. After all, you want to spend time doing the things you love, right? I recently helped one of my lovely clients complete a business task that had slipped further and further down her to do list. She outsourced this organising/data entry work because she wanted to stop double handling my own crap. 04.01.2022 One year ago today I took my last commute to the office in Perth’s CBD, soon after the next chapter of my journey began A week later I randomly met a lady who was about to open a bakery. She was busy baking, and doing all the things she needed to do to launch her business. She didn’t have time to look at resumes to hire her team, she didn’t have time to call applicants to set-up interviews, prepare questions, call them the day before to confirm, nor did she have time to... tackle the rest of her to do list Suddenly, I had all of this time on my hands while this lady was rushed off her feet... What’s all that about? This was it, my opportunity - I offered Linda my time, allowing her to focus on her main goal, and the rest as they say is history Thanks for trusting me with your new business Linda The Yorkshireman's Pie and being my inspiration I love how I continue to be a part of your journey, watching you thrive #everythinghappensforareason Are you trying to do all of the things in your business?
