24.01.2022 COMING UP AT COUNCIL - DRAFT WESTLEIGH PARK MASTERPLAN An item coming up at our Council Meeting next week is a proposal to adopt the draft Westleigh Park Master...plan for exhibition and consultation. There are great expectations for this park and the emails I've received to date confirm to me and to all Councillors just how passionate our local residents are about this space, about the endangered bushland and about mountain biking in our area. The Westleigh Park masterplan addresses a variety of issues including sporting, recreation, access and parking. It is important to note that in-principle support to access the Westleigh Park site through Sydney Water’s Thornleigh reservoir site has been obtained and there is a proposal to link Westleigh and Hornsby Parks as part of the first stage of the Hornsby Park development. These two elements have long been discussed and are greatly needed. The proposals do not come without challenges or compromises for some of the current or proposed users and it is these issues that can be discussed and evaluated as part of this consultation. In my view, the exhibition of this long-awaited draft masterplan is a great opportunity for Council to hear the views, concerns and proposals from local residents and groups. I am committed to widespread consultation on these proposals, and for community members who are passionate about this place and the direct access to the bushland that it provides to have their voices heard. In particular I've heard loud and clear what a great opportunity the site provides for young riders to experience mountain biking on 'entry level' trails that are not available elsewhere. To alleviate some immediate concerns based upon the comments received so far here's some things I want you to know: Next Wednesday night's report will do one thing only - place the draft masterplans for both Hornsby Park and Westleigh Park on exhibition to receive your comments; The plan will be on exhibition for 42 days, proposed to commence from next Friday, 16 April and extend until 28 May. Council has prepared a Communications and Engagement plan that will provide a range of opportunities for residents and community groups to be able to view the plan and pass on your comments including: Swing bys Telephone and online surveys Workshops with key Council committees PLUS Stakeholder meetings with Bushcare and Environmental Groups, Mountain Bike Groups + Sporting Groups, along with the Westleigh Water Board Alliance I think it's a shame that the Communications and Engagement Plan that Council has prepared did not form part of the Council report for these two major initiatives as I believe they acknowledge clearly the importance of community consultation for these projects. Residents have expressed great concern to me that next week's Council meeting will simply adopt these plans and start work. That's not the case here, and you can read the recommendation in full and access the draft masterplans in the Council Business Paper here: https://businesspapers.hornsby.nsw.gov.au//GM_14042021_AGN As you consider your submission I urge you to write to all Councillors with your thoughts via this address - [email protected] Want to chat? 22.01.2022 For our look at 55 Coonara Ave West Pennant Hills today let's continue the discussion about the architecture - in this case the proposed design response from Mi...rvac for this site. Apparently it responds to the local environment but we would argue that the response is a generic Mirvac proposal which could sit on any site - anywhere - just slightly adjusted for topography. This is 'cookie-cutter' planning - NOT architecture. Please also note the 'Active Recreation' image which notes the use of synthetic grass. Synthetic grass is hotter than natural grass for a start - reaching up to 65 deg C - then there are run-off issues and the list goes on. See more
21.01.2022 Two years ago, we lost a titan. Bob Hawke loved Australians, and Australians loved him back. We miss you every day, Hawkey.
19.01.2022 With the right plans, the right policies and the right leadership our country can make this moment our own.
19.01.2022 IT ISN'T OVER YET If the NSW Government is selling this as positive news then residents aren't buying it. Mirvac still has to lodge its Development Application ...and we will ALL be objecting to whatever rubbish they keep trying to sell the community. 17.01.2022 Best of luck tomorrow to my friends in NZ and the ACT! Bring it home for Labour and Labor guys.
16.01.2022 Today we're announcing the biggest public housing program this state, and country has ever seen. We're funding over $5.3 billion to build 12,000 new homes right... across Victoria. Secure and long-term accommodation for thousands of families. We're rebuilding over 1,000 existing public housing properties, and 2,000 new homes will go directly to Victorians living with a mental illness. Almost 3,000 rental homes will be built to help low and middle income families move closer to where they work at an affordable price. Every home built will be sustainable too and they'll all have a seven star energy rating. And over 10,000 jobs will be created on average every year for four years, providing work for builders, plasterers, plumbers, electricians, concreters, designers and more and helping kick-start our economy like never before. It'll increase our housing supply by 10 per cent, and help inject over $6.7 billion into the Victorian economy. And these aren't just places to live - they're homes to be proud of, and foundations Victorians can rely on too. This pandemic has exposed cracks and pitfalls right across the community. But if we want to build a stronger state, and recover better than before: Victorians need certainty, security and a fairer future.
14.01.2022 I want to be your Prime Minister because I know government has the power to break down barriers of disadvantage, to change lives for the better. I’ve seen it. I’ve lived it. And that’s what Labor’s plans are all about.
14.01.2022 Newly revealed documents show that dedication of the ForestinDanger WON'T HAPPEN FOR FIVE YEARS. Shocked residents met across the northern suburbs today as it w...as revealed the claims by Mirvac and the NSW Government are smoke and mirrors. Perrottet and Co. will allow Mirvac to delay handing over the critically endangered Forest for at least 5 years, until the development is completed. IT MUST BE DONATED NOW not in 5 years time. Anything could happen in that five years. Local Member for the Forest site, Police Minister David Elliott, was obviously concerned about the small group of (socially distancing) 60+ year olds and one little girl. A police paddy wagon with six burly police were called as the group stood peacefully outside his office. Slight overkill don't you think David Elliott MP? The Lorax came along with the girl. Hope the Police Minister took note of what the Lorax says. Other small groups found innovative ways to get their message across including a visit to Treasurer Dom Perrottet MP's offices from the Mask Powl, protector of the forest and Powerful Owls. Hornsby residents in Matt Kean MP's electorate are "Kean for a National Park". C'mon Gladys Berejiklian and Rob Stokes you can do it. PEOPLE DON'T LIKE BEING HOODWINKED. Make the ForestinDanger and the Cumberland State Forest a National Park NOW not in five years time (if ever). Kate Washington MP Adam Searle MLC Cate Faehrmann Jamie Parker MP
13.01.2022 The Berejiklian Government is about to introduce a $7 toll on the M5 East. This will cost South West Sydney motorists about $3,300 a year; today they pay nothin...g. After 20 years, people will be almost $100,000 out of pocket as tolls rise 4% a year. This road is not being upgraded. In the middle of a recession, why are the Liberal MPs for East Hills, Oatley, Holsworthy and Camden backing a big new toll on the same old road? 12.01.2022 The Liberals are planning on privatising billions of dollars of public assets - even though before the last election, they promised to stop the sell-offs. Privatisation is in their DNA.

10.01.2022 Update on Branch Meetings from the NSW General Secretary... This email is to update you on the ongoing status of NSW Labor Party Units in light of the COVID-19 ...pandemic. The global pandemic has had an unprecedented impact on our economic and social circumstances. The disruptive effect of the pandemic is more acutely felt by the most vulnerable in our community; the elderly, those who are immune-compromised, and those in insecure and low-paid work who cannot afford to self-isolate. The NSW Party Officers are currently developing a plan for the resumption of Party Units that recognises the importance of our Party Units but also ensures that the most vulnerable are not disadvantaged by that resumption. At a meeting of the National Executive on 1 June, it was resolved that Party Unit meetings would be suspended until at least 10 July. Importantly, resumption of branch meetings is conditional on the NSW Branch implementing a COVID-19 control plan. The relevant section of the National Executive resolution is as follows: State and Territory Branches seeking to resume regular Party activity from 10 July should table for approval with the National Executive Committee: a) a COVID 19 risk assessment and list of control measures prior to resumption; b) how the Branch will comply with their jurisdiction’s Public Health Orders, including physical distancing and restrictions on public gatherings; and c) a statement that the nature and form of party activity resumption will empower members to engage equally in said activities. The Party Officers are currently developing a COVID-19 control plan that will be presented to a meeting of the NSW Labor Administrative Committee on Friday 17 July. Following the Administrative Committee, the control plan will then be sent to National Executive Committee for approval. This means that the suspension of Branch, LGC, SEC, and FEC activities will remain in place until a COVID-19 control plan, which allows members to participate equally in Party Unit activities, has been endorsed by the National Executive Committee. Thank you for your continuing patience in this difficult period. We will keep you updated as we have more information. Yours in Labor Bob Nanva NSW Labor General Secretary
04.01.2022 #BREAKING The #CashlessDebitCard has passed the House 62-61. If Bridget Archer voted on her convictions, this bill would have been defeated.
04.01.2022 UPDATE: Thank you to everyone for your interest and support in this. In answer to some of your questions we've clarified the position below. DONATIONS URGENTLY ...NEEDED to continue the fight for the IBM/Mirvac Forest. Please help this ForestinDanger community group. They have obtained preliminary legal advice that there may be grounds for a legal challenge and funds are now needed for a barrister's advice and legal costs. This is a David and Goliath fight against a big development and the government but ForestinDanger believes that this site is important and valuable to the community and worth the fight. The community groups are continuing to fight and every dollar counts. $10,000 is needed to take this forward. A lot of money but a small price to pay for such a special Forest. All of the ForestinDanger community groups are supportive of one of their groups, Protecting Your Suburban Environment Inc, volunteering to be the community group to do this. Please help them to help the Forest by donating NOW. They need to raise the money by 11th September 2020 so don't delay. Please donate NOW. To make a donation go to the Protecting Your Suburban Environment Incorporated (PYSE Inc) website and follow the prompts https://pyse.webs.com/ Any further questions please feel welcome to email [email protected]

01.01.2022 This week in Parliament Mark Latham wasted our time with a vicious and baseless attack on Labor's candidate in the Upper Hunter by-election. I am fed up with La...tham’s bullying and time wasting. Every chance he gets Mark Latham works with the Liberals and Nationals to attack vulnerable people and working people. I reckoned it was time to call out his disgusting behaviour. Check out what I had to say
