20.01.2022 NAIDOC Week - 2020 There's much to be thankful for and much to celebrate, but there remains much more for us to do towards reconciliation. The collective voice of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders has long called for a substantive treaty. A hope not yet realised. At the very least we must own our history, every bit of it from the most beautiful to the most despicable. And true history must be told, must be heard, must be acknowledged. Because hearing our history will hel...p us come to true reconciliation, with genuine healing. This is not just the history of our First Peoples it is the history of us, of all of Australia. Always was. Always will be. We need to own it. We will be stronger for it. #alwayswasalwayswillbe #truth #reconciliation

06.01.2022 Peace. At the eleventh hour, on the eleventh day in the eleventh month the "war to end all wars" was over. Our country has peace and security thanks to the service of many. 05.01.2022 Spare a thought for those counting the vote in the US. The West Australian showed this member of the public and supporter of Donald Trump at a vote count. I’ve seen the pressure observers apply to a situation - and that’s just angry people who want their own way. Imagine what it’s like when the observers look like this. ... Democracy requires participation and those who wish to use democracy for their own ends make democracy about fear and conflict and regular people are repelled by it. In Australia we are blessed with a compulsory and clear voting system and an overriding view that ALL VOTES should be counted.
