23.01.2022 A big job sorting through the old cellar, finding a history of Morris made wines. This 1986 Pinot Noir turned out to be the first ever bottle made by our winemaker Stephen Morris Jnr. Just a cheeky 6 years old at the time #intheblood #winegenepool #morriswines

23.01.2022 From the vineyard to the winery: Part 1 of 2 These beauties were ready to pick just in time, at the turn of Autumn. It’s the slow ripening of our cool climate Beechworth Shiraz that makes it so delicious. Wait ‘til you see the next phase in the process...

16.01.2022 From the vineyard to the winery: Part 2 of 2 Beechworth Shiraz fermenting away. If you listen carefully you can hear the yeast working their magic. Co2 bubbling off is a by product of the conversion of sugar to alcohol.

16.01.2022 Sunrise Merlot... Vintage 2019 continues here at Pennyweight!

14.01.2022 Magical morning here in Beechworth

14.01.2022 Back to where it all began. Fairfield wine cellar, the first Morris winery founded 1859.

12.01.2022 The mesmerising art of bottling Say hello to our 2019 Beechworth Shiraz! There is something so satisfying about this phase of the wine making process. You won’t be tasting this delicious drop for a couple of years, we like a bit of age on our reds before they hit the cellar door. If only age was this well regarded in all walks of life!

12.01.2022 Finding the silver lining of yet another lockdown here in Victoria Lots of rain to soak into our vineyard and set us up nicely for the coming growing season. : @cuffandstuff #lockdown5.0 #biodynamic #organic #pruningseason #northeast #rainbowsandlollipops

12.01.2022 There’s nothing quite like the ambience and beauty of our courtyard in Autumn. My happy place, we hope it’s yours too!

11.01.2022 We rummage our grapes gently and frequently to ensure optimal colour, intensity and tannin is achieved. It’s about maintaining the perfect conditions for the yeast to thrive and do their job. Hot diggity. Thanks to @cuffandstuff for this perfectly modelled example #vintage2021 #beechworth #biodynamic #organic #traditional

10.01.2022 It is with great sadness that we announce the recent departure of our amazing friend / mascot / escape artist, Nippy. A final altercation, and most definitely not her first, with a legless reptilian foe was what brought her unstuck in the end. Thanks for all the adventures and warm-hearted greetings to all our winery visitors Nippy. Rest well x

10.01.2022 *D i s b u d d i n g * Over the past couple of months, it has been crucial to manage and maintain the vineyard after some serious growth. Here we are disbudding the young Pinot Noir vines to help support heavy fruit in years to come. Our beautiful old grape vine trunks (last pic) don’t just happen by themselves! A bit of hard work each year keeps them in good stead for future years

10.01.2022 The Pinot noir grapes going through veraison, a process where the grape chooses its colour and begins to ripen. It typically signals 6 weeks from harvest. Loving the cooler weather! #pinotnoir #veraison

09.01.2022 Photo cred: @foodcornish Following a recent visit to Beechworth, our boys chatted with Richard Cornish about the lure of great food and wine in the region. Check out the full article in The Age Good Food Au or visit link in Richards bio

08.01.2022 The solero is a number of casks of wine set up to allow movement of wine from youngest to oldest. It is quite labour intensive but crucial to our sherry making process. We have up to a dozen casks of sherry involved in this process. In theory there is still some of the 1980 sherry in our solero, which adds to its delicious and complex taste

07.01.2022 Were at Blackhearts & Sparrows in Fitzroy North right now serving up some exciting tastings! Hope to see you there, all are welcome!

06.01.2022 Its been a while since we last posted because lets face it...not a lot has been happening! 03.01.2022 The art of Gold blending. #pennyweightgold #whiteport

02.01.2022 Three generations of Morris winemakers. One of whom demands to be carried around in a wheelbarrow chariot and really doesn’t pull her weight The Morris name has been synonymous with wine since the 1860’s. Producing excellent biodynamic organic wine is what we live and breathe. Stephen Morris Jnr is fifth generation winemaker and we are pretty excited about what he’s been producing. You’ll have to taste the latest wines and see for yourself!
