15.01.2022 Haltech takes control of SuperUtes Australian engine management specialists Haltech will provide the control engine management package for the SuperUtes categor...y when they return to the track with GM’s LS-based V8s in 2021. Haltech is credited as being the first in the world to develop real-time (programmable with the engine running) PC-based engine management system and has a long history of involvement with Aussie racing dating back to the Group A days of the late 80’s. It is wonderful to be involved with such a great category, said Haltech CEO, Mark Bevan. With the V8 under the hood and a Haltech in control, we’re aiming to breathe new life into this series. Of course, there will be a noticeable performance upgrade, but with our spec tune, we’re also paying close attention to things that motorsport enthusiasts love like the V8 engine noise and flames shooting from the exhaust. The utes will once again be one of the most exciting on-track spectacles. Haltech is not just providing a simple ECU, however. The brains of the brutes are said to be the company’s latest technological advancement: The Nexus R5 VCU. The VCU is a complete Vehicle Control Unit which takes care of so much more than just the engine fueling and ignition. We’ve been working with Haltech to design a package that makes the SuperUtes easy to drive, easy to maintain and most importantly reliable, says Sieders Race Team owner Luke Sieders. What we’ve come up with is actually quite impressive! The one unit obviously controls the engine, but it also does power management, data logging as well as controlling the fuel pumps, thermo fans and even the headlights! Combine that with the near bolt-in engine and body wiring harnesses that all come in the package, and building, racing and fixing one of these utes just got a whole easier! The 2021 SuperUtes calendar is yet to be finalised, so we don’t yet know when we’ll see the utes race in anger, but we do know it is something to look forward to when it happens.
