24.01.2022 FEEDBACK WELCOME | Galup is an arts project about the history of Lake Monger in Perth created by Noongar theatremaker Ian Wilkes and artist Poppy van Oorde-Grainger with an oral history from Noongar Elder Doolann Leisha Eatts. There are two parts to the project, a theatre performance at the lake and a virtual reality (VR) work. Both will be launched in 2021. The project includes reference to a massacre at the lake. During this online presentation held last week, the team shar...ed information about the project and invited people to give feedback by phone, email or survey afterwards either directly or anonymously. The team feel its particularly important to keep the Noongar community informed about this work and hear their thoughts due to the cultural significance of Galup (Lake Monger). 07.01.2022 WE DID IT | July & August were busy for us, so busy we had to take a 3 day debrief trip to Augusta to unpack the truckload of conversations and provocations that came out of our inaugural Creative Hub. Beginning with a day with Kylie Bracknell grounding ourselves on Wadjuk booja and ending with a showing of Black Brass, the 4 weeks were packed with 721 people across the sector engaging with our artist responsive curation of keynotes, panels, discussions, residencies, co-wor...king spaces and Friday soup lunches as well as 50 artists creating and dreaming with no pressure of outcomes. Breaking down sector silos and reimagining where we go to from here has never been so invigorating! Note: The department has made some changes to ensure that it meets current COVID-19 guidelines including restrictions on travel and social gatherings. This second edition will support ongoing advocacy and provide benchmarking to assist indies in quoting for freelance work. It will be available as a public report in the coming months for everyone to use.
