25.01.2022 Cooperate with nature. Energy is everything and everything is energy. As the days get hotter we notice the temperature difference in the garden. Plants eat the sun’s energy and absorb heat in the process. They also transpire, releasing moisture through their leaves. The net effect is natural air conditioning. Planting trees will cool our own systems and contribute to a cooler suburb, a cooler country and a cooler planet. Permaculture teaches us to put energy to its highest use. It makes sense to cool our environment using plants rather electronic appliances, no matter how those appliances are powered. Trees are completely sustainable. They can regenerate and at the end of their lives they can self replicate. Nothing we can manufacture comes close. #permacoach #permacoaching #permaculture #gust #onemillionwomen #trees #nswcentralcoast

25.01.2022 One of the great things about establishing a learning community is that students consistently find great resources. We are all teachers and learners. Here's something for anyone wanting to establish a suburban permaculture system. <3

20.01.2022 Progress report an my apple scrap vinegar. It’s bubbling away nicely and possibly alcoholic at this stage as it continues to ferment into vinegar. It tastes both sharp and sweet. A few more weeks until I strain off the solids and bottle up the delicious pink vinegar. #permacoach #permaculture #scrapapplevinegar #nswcentralcoast

16.01.2022 Grow what grows well. Permaculture seeks to be increasingly energy efficient. Obtaining a greater return on all kinds of energy means less work, less waste and a healthier ecosystem. One of the most common ways many gardeners waste energy is to struggle with plants that are not suited to their conditions. How much easier to grow what thrives! Dahlias love it here. This one was planted as a seedling over a decade ago and comes up every year. I have found that they do just fi...ne without needing to be lifted. The flowers and tubers are both edible but what a shame it would be to eat the tubers. Better to let them stay where they are and surprise me every summer. This same principle applies to the food we choose to grow. What grows well for you? Plant more of that. #permaculture #permacoach #dahlias #onemillionwomen #nswcentralcoast See more

14.01.2022 Entropy. We often use it as a synonym for 'chaos' or 'disorder' but that's not what it actually means. https://smarterthancrows.wordpress.com//the-trouble-with-/

13.01.2022 I have used the last bits of fabric from the quilt cover project to make kicker toys for rescue cats. Repurposed clean soft plastic packaging as stuffing and it makes a nice crinkling sound that cats love Produce no waste. Everything is energy and energy is everything #permacoach #permaculture #catrescue #cattoys #nswcentralcoast

12.01.2022 Permaculture in action: many voices make change happen. Please consider signing.

11.01.2022 A great short film courtesy of Morag Gamble. SO many great design ideas here, and another example of how permaculture can be used to heal the earth.

08.01.2022 Multiple functions! This is the ‘pinkalicious’ variety of macadamia nut tree. Glorious blossoms, evergreen, perennial and keeps its own space neat and tidy by outshading and otherwise discouraging weeds. Bees love it and so do our beautiful native mice, but they always leave plenty for us. Fair share. In permaculture we’re always looking for ways to stack functions. Everything does more than just one thing. We’re also looking for beneficial relationships between things. De...signing in this way makes the best possible use of energy, including our own. It also frees up more space for other living things because we can achieve high yields in less space while shrinking our ecological footprint. Cooperate with nature. Build diverse and evolving communities. Align behaviour with the three core ethics of earth care, people care and fair share. #permacoach #permaculture #multiplefunctions #nswcentralcoast See more

08.01.2022 It's an online tour of one of the most famous permaculture properties on the planet! David Holmgren and Su Dennett will be hosting their first ever online tour of Medlliodora, the beautiful and productive property they established in Victoria using permaculture ethics, principles and design. Live and interactive. $12.64

07.01.2022 My viral jeans have made the news. Thanks to this lovely young journalist for the accuracy of her reporting. I'm not permanently connected so missed her polite request to use the content. She did a great job using what was on the page. https://au.news.yahoo.com/wake-up-call-distressing-secret-b

07.01.2022 Behold the beauty of the Australian native snail going for an afternoon paddle This is the biggest one I have ever seen. They eat slugs and European snails. Please don’t kill them. #permacoach #permaculture #nativesnail #nswcentralcoast

07.01.2022 Whether you are just starting out or wanting to take your permaculture to the next level, we can help. We teach you permaculture at your place or ours. We can provide you with a qualified permaculture coach to help you design and implement permaculture on your land, at your own pace and within your own budget. We have coaches covering Sydney, Newcastle, the Blue Mountains and the NSW Central Coast. You can learn more about us here: https://www.permacoach.com.au We also teach ...permaculture courses from our home, a three and a half acre property that has been under permaculture for over 20 years. We trade with local people, exchanging knowledge for help on our property on the NSW Central Coast (usually mulching). Your time is as valuable as our time so we trade on an equal basis; one hour of training for one hour of labour. There is also a payment alternative if you would prefer. We can introduce you to the basics of permaculture or we can coach you to full PDC level. It's your choice. We also teach other experienced permaculture practitioners our model so that we can spread it. This page is for friends, supporters and those too far away to join us in person. It's a place for students to connect with each other and for us to post resources and interesting links. We'll regularly share stories, ideas, knowledge and thought provoking questions. We hope you enjoy it.

07.01.2022 I've stepped up to take on the role of President for Permaculture Central Coast this year. My intention is to mentor the Vice President into the job next year. We've got a great new team of committee members and volunteers and we're looking forward to an exciting year. I think of permaculture as a pattern for a better way to be human. It's an ethically based design pattern for creating and maintaining systems that increase ecological health while providing for human needs.... Here's a link to the page if you'd like to join the group or just keep an eye on what we're doing. There are monthly get togethers at Tuggerah that include (COVID permitting) a free seed library, a swap table and the opportunity for members to sell permaculture-related stuff. Who knows what else we'll get up to this year but I'm excited! https://permaculturecc.org.au

06.01.2022 The comfrey verdict? Amazing! Still don’t want to put weight on it but I’m in much less pain and I haven’t taken any pain killers. Hardly a double blind trial but impressive enough to recommend giving it a try if you have an injury. Thanks to everyone sharing their own experiences with comfrey #permacoach #permacoaching #permaculture #comfrey #nswcentralcoast

05.01.2022 Comfrey poultice! Graham did some serious damage to his ankle last weekend. Yes, he has seen a doctor and is booked in for an MRI but in the meantime we’ll see if this traditional remedy provides any amount of relief. Comfrey is also known as knit bone for its alleged healing properties. This poultice is made using leaves, water and enough flour to form a paste. I’m off to wrap it around his foot. Stay tuned for his feedback. #permacoach #permaculture #comfrey #homeremedies #nswcentralcoast

05.01.2022 Sure, you could pay me to come around to your place and put together a sector and site analysis, an assessment of the strengths and challenges of your site, a concept plan for your home, your garden or both and an implementation schedule to make sure you turn the plan into a reality... OR You could learn to do all this yourself! A PDC will cost about the same as a concept plan, but now you will have mad design skills that you can apply to any design task. There is a reason o...ur students call this course "life changing". If you've dipped your toes into an introductory course and want to get deep into designing in permaculture then take a look at this: https://events.humanitix.com/permaculture-design-course-pdc

02.01.2022 These sought after cut flowers are immediately recognisable to experienced seed savers. They’re carrots! The gorgeous pink blooms belong to purple carrots and the white flowers to the common orange ones. Saving seed saves money, not just on seed but on the food we grow with it. In permaculture we are always trying to find ways to stack functions; getting everything to do more than one thing. Flowering carrots attract pollinators that increase the yield on fruiting crops like tomatoes and gourds. They add beauty to the garden too. #permacoach #permaculture #seedsaving #seedsavers #florist #nswcentralcoast

02.01.2022 What to do when your composted jeans go viral? Use them to raise money for a really special charity! Permafund is the charity arm of Permaculture Australia. If you enjoyed the story of the residual plastics in stretch jeans please consider taking this challenge and supporting this cause. Highest donating gets to keep my jeans! ... #mycause See more

01.01.2022 What’s the best way to turn a compost pile? Get someone else to do it for you My friend Hoby is doing our permaculture design course and ‘pays’ for it by helping out in the garden. We call this model ‘permashare’ and we love the way it makes permaculture available to people that otherwise might not be able to afford it. The hot compost is nearly ready. We don’t fertilise our garden. We make compost to feed the soil biome so that we don’t need fertilisers. #permacoach #permacoaching #permaculture #hotcompost #nswcentralcoast
