20.01.2022 Sunflowers are thriving

20.01.2022 With COVID-19 restrictions now allowing travel within Queensland there is no doubt that everyone is keen to get out and about to escape isolation life, especial...ly as school holidays are upon us. With more cars on the road, the risk of car accidents naturally rises. This last weekend has seen the tragic loss of five more people on our roads, taking the 2020 national tally to 116 deaths, which is 18 more than this time last year. In fact, in 2019 alone almost 1200 people have been killed on Australian roads. Of those 745 were in vehicles, 186 were motorcyclists, 16 were pedestrians and 45 were cyclist. Please be vigilant on the roads and stay safe. If the unexpected happens and you or someone you know becomes involved in a car accident, remember to: 1. Phone emergency services including police to report the accident and seek assistance 2. Take photos of the other driver’s licence and registration number as well as vehicle damage to both cars 3. Take a photo of the accident location 4. Get the insurance details of the other driver (for your vehicle damage) 5. Get emergency care or visit a GP as relevant to have your injuries reviewed and to receive medical advice 6. If the accident wasn’t your fault, contact a personal injury lawyer to start your road to recovery and access to immediate funding of treatment expenses plus additional compensation for other elements such as the possible long term ill effects of any injuries you sustained.

17.01.2022 Can cyclists access CTP money for injuries after traffic accident? With more of us out and exercising on bicycles in the current pandemic, helpful to recognise availability of access to money via CTP scheme in the unfortunate event of a traffic accident. Entitlement is triggered through demonstration of legal fault (negligence) by the driver of motor vehicle (car, bus, motorbike). Don’t need criminal fault, and momentary in-attention is sufficient. Some traffic accidents in...volve a sharing of fault, in which a cyclist can still obtain financial support through the CTP insurer attached to the motor vehicle. What if the registration of the motor vehicle is not known, such as in a hit and run situation? CTP coverage is still provided for the cyclist through the organisation called the Nominal Defendant that acts just like a CTP insurer. Our Mitchell Clark is an accredited personal injury compensation expert. He’s worked in this specialised field for over 30 years. If you or your family need a trusted lawyer to help with bicycle accident compensation, please contact Mitchell by email ([email protected]) or give him a call (on 0403 066 075).

01.01.2022 Can you cross a painted line while turning? The department confirmed that yes, drivers are allowed to drive on a painted traffic island as long as you take into account a couple of factors. You can drive on a painted traffic island that’s surrounded by a single continuous line for up to 50m to enter a turning lane that begins immediately after the island, to enter or leave a road and to overtake a cyclist, they explained.... When driving on a painted island to enter a turning lane, you must give way to traffic already in, or entering the turning lane. It’s not, however, possible to drive over a painted island if it’s surrounded by double continuous lines or if it separates traffic travelling in the same direction like where an onramp merges onto a motorway.
