25.01.2022 Gday everyone, its that time of year again. Make sure you get your flue cleaned prior to lighting your first fire of the year, or if you have had a fire and it doesnt seem to be burning as usual, there could be a build up of soot or a blockage. And always remember not to put hot ashed in your bin until they have sat for at least a week.... https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=2232138486867818&id=100002150658388

25.01.2022 If youre off to the shack this weekend it will be tempting to get the wood heater or open fireplace going. Chimneys and flues that have not been properly main...tained can catch fire, and these types of fires have already destroyed homes in Tasmania this year. These things can help reduce the risks associated with fireplaces and wood heaters: Have your chimney/flue professionally cleaned annually. Only burn wood that has been properly seasoned/dried, so it burns hotter and produces less smoke. Place a fire screen in front of fireplaces. Put logs in lengthways so they cant roll out. Keep anything flammable, including your woodpile, at least two metres from the fireplace. And most importantly, have smoke alarms installed in every sleeping area - that includes your shack, boat and caravan. For more information about how to stay safe at your place this winter visit www.fire.tas.gov.au

21.01.2022 With very hot temperatures and gusty winds forecast, Severe fire weather conditions are expected across most of the east and south of the state. Of particular c...oncern is the North East, East Coast, Midlands, South East and Central Plateau. Remember there is a total fire ban until 2am Saturday for all municipalities in the south, and Break ODay and Northern Midlands in the north.

16.01.2022 A state-wide smoke alert is in place across Tasmania. Smoke is coming from fires in Victoria, NSWs and Tasmania. Community members have come out in great numbe...rs with 90 people attending a bushfire information session yesterday evening at Fingal. A reminder that a Total Fire Ban is in place in the south and north until 2am on the 5th January.

15.01.2022 Tasmanians are reminded to remain vigilant today as the fire danger ratings exceed the forecast in parts of the state. Fire danger has reached Extreme on the Ea...st Coast and Midlands which is the second-highest rating on the scale. TFS is keeping a watching brief on the conditions, with resources pre-positioned to deal with any new fires as quickly as possible. The community should remain aware of their surroundings and report any new fires to TFS on Triple Zero immediately to give us the best chance to get on top of them. If a fire breaks out in your area in extreme conditions, leaving early is the safest option for your survival. Only stay if your home is situated or constructed to withstand a bushfire and if you are able to actively defend it. Visit www.fire.tas.gov.au and listen to ABC Local Radio for up to date information and warnings if a fire breaks out in your area.

07.01.2022 A house fire in Glenorchy last night was caused by a clothes dryer, destroying a garage, and $100,000 damage. Some tips for safe clothes dryer use: clean the ...lint filter after each use - lint is highly flammable and is the cause of many dryer-related fires. make sure your dryer is well ventilated. always run the dryer to the end of the cool down cycle - fires have been caused when the dryer has been stopped before the end of the cycle, causing the items to keep heating up and combusting while they are in a pile.
